Hope you are having a wonderful day so far. We've got a super long one today, we shall see how this one goes. I just have to say there was a lot more to this case, but I gave you a simple summary of it just because I know it can get a bit overwhelming. Unfortunately we will never really know how many people were victims and that is truly unfortunate. I also didnt want to add in any photos of the living victims, I just felt like they were really trying to move forward with their lives and yeah. Will keep this in mind for future videos as well. I had to add some kind of humor throughout, it was really the only way to get through it, this one bugged me for dayzzzzz. so gross.

There's a huge rabbit hole with Charles Manson. His past attachments with the government, it's INSANE, and censored. I'm not attached to him by any means, but he is not who people thinks he is. Same goes for a lot of people who are painted "evil" by media. Not all of them, but Manson's case is beyond shady.

Well, she said that she couldn't remember. Sometimes, ppl say that they don't remember what happened when they don't want to confess to something they'd done.

I think giving these criminals a background story helps understand why they turned out to be such monsters, kinda teaches ppl a lesson to be kind to one another ya know.

I know right?? I live 40 min from the lake and have always wanted to go look myself just to bring closure to the families but I'm scared 😨. I think maybe if I got a bunch of people together it wouldn't be so sketchy.

And now that Cindy is out of prison and “rehabilitated” she is living in Hamilton, Montana right across from an elementary school. It disgusts me that she is free to live her life after destroying so many others.
I read some stuff from people who had contact with her and she's not rehabilitated. She's causing all kinds of drama and scaring people. I kinda don't see her staying out of prison for long.

My sister lives there and said the community is outraged shes living in their town but the cops cant do anything, and if citizens harass her, she can go after them. It's actually important to know full back stories because this is how we can learn to identify warning signs
Simultaneously, it is possible to have empathy for someone while wanting them to be held accountable to the fullest extent, for their horrendous actions.
It also helps show that people from all backgrounds can be terrible people
criminology is so intriguing. sometimes there’s patterns and other times it’s out of nowhere. it’s wild and i love learning about it

It happens so often. In almost all of the true crime Bailey discusses, women and children have been let down by the system multiple times.

I grew up an hour from this lake & we would always go there as kids. Now it's pretty much dried up. But it's shocking how normal it was to find bodies in this lake. There was so many accidents & people being dumped constantly. Everyone knew/ knows & we just chose to swim in body infested waters. So creepy.
Right,my uncle used to scare us kids when we were little and say that something or someone would come up from the bottom and get us if we didn't listen😂 every time I found out that we were going down there for the weekend on a holiday,I didn't want to ever go because I was scared to get in the water 😂and I also didn't like the ants because I always got bites from them 😂

As someone who lived near here and has visited elephant butte many times, I wondered why this lake was never searched! Apparently it’s because the lake it’s pretty deep and the water is so dark that it’s basically impossible to see. It’s also way too large to drain.

Totally. The "introductory tape" was recorded in '93 and he wasn't caught until '99. It would have taken awhile also to put that all together.
It's seriously unreal that police never found any bodies.
Personally, I like hearing about the killer's background. It kind of helps me understand what may have lead them to do what they did. NOTHING makes what they've done "okay," but knowing how they grew up clarifies things.

Ladies! I can't stress this enough. If you end up at a bar, and have to leave your spot for any reason:
1. Take your drink with you OR

It honestly disgusts me how little the police did. Cynthia literally TOLD them about the bodies in the lake and yet they didn't search it. It's a shame that the women ,who suffered months of harassment and assault then was killed, couldn't rest easy and their bodies wouldn't be recovered.

TorCs my hometown, it was incredibly disturbing to hear about all this when it was discovered. I have vague memories of Peggy. But it's a huge lake, it'd be impossible to search, I think at least. We swam there every day as kids. I was friends with "Jean" (Jessie) in 2002-2005ish - She was reserved, kept to herself - hung out with kids half her age (I met her at 16 in Albuquerque). I didn't even connect the dots until a decade when a documentary came on. It's so bazaar. Thanks for covering this story, it crosses my mind a lot.

Very fortunate that Cynthia had the strength to escape and was able to take this monster down. Very sad to the victims who weren't able to be as lucky as Cynthia was. However I hope their spirits can rest a bit easier now that he is gone.

I agree 100%. I always like to hear the killers backstories and their childhood growing up as well. Because while obviously it isn't an excuse, it shows you kind of why they chose to do what they did
Right? Kinda like Dahmer. What he did is absolutely inexcusable, but his childhood definitely played a part in his actions.
I’m from New Mexico and growing up, everyone goes to elephant butte for the summer time. The beach is full of people camping because it’s one of the few bodies of water. But all the kids and teens had these stories that the lake was haunted because of the bodies at the bottom of the lake. Everyone from the area knows that there are most definitely bodies around. It’s sad and disturbing that he was able to get away with so much.
The fact that they never looked in the lake but allowed the toy box to become a tourist attraction is just chilling. Like they wanted to show off this shed. But not search for bodies. Like what.
it’s much harder to find a body in a lake than other bodies of streaming water. it’s murky, strong undercurrents and there’s a lot of debris already at bottoms of lakes, as well as aquatic scavengers. there are people who drown in lakes all the time and they’re unable to recover their bodies.

So I just googled the size of the lake, it's 40 miles long... 57² miles. It used to be bigger back them too. However, the lake is continually getting smaller so maybe some day...

There's a few documentaries out about him, and one was saying that when she got the keys and unlocked herself, she called 911 only to hang up because she got into the fight. Nothing exciting ever really happens in that town, so after she escaped and the cops got to her, they checked the 911 records and there was a suspicious 911 hang up from his house before they got the call and that's when they went to check the house out after the fact.

I wonder if that woman’s husband ever came back to her after finding out she wasn’t lying and that she had actually been drugged and tortured for two days? I can’t imagine how she feels after seeing a video of herself through terrible attacks. The whole situation is horrible. I hope she’s okay today.
Also, it HAS to be awful for the families of victims that were never found. They really should drain the lake, even if it is costly.
I'm from New Mexico, and believe it or not, back then, the lake used to be a lot more full than what the pictures were shown, it's even lower than it is from the photos, the water keeps dropping at a huge rate, so eventually the lake is gonna be empty.. so if they were to still be able to identify human remains in the lake, if they find any, then I would be positive it's from the murderers.

Seaturtle Poppy what I’m assuming, not much.. I mean if people were to keep an eye on it, it wouldn’t be as low. We’ve had many droughts and even the Rio Grande river here gets pretty low. The river this year in the summer was really high, but currently it’s pretty low, at least where I live. I just think that what they need to do to resolve this problem is close the dams when it rains and then it’ll fill up a little bit more
Andrea - it seems like a few cases are finally solved when something dries up - usually because a car was found or something. I wonder if people there felt safe dumping bodies in the lake without considering it could dry up in their lifetime.

This is a guy the media almost never talks about. When I lived in New Mexico I don’t even remember hearing too much about this guy. For how insane this man was and the crimes he did you would think you would hear more stories about him. This guy was as evil as it gets.
I’ve watched every single MM&M episode except this one until just now. I had heard of this case before and it was so disturbing, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. I finally felt like I could and Bailey told the story with so much less disgusting detail that I was able to listen to the facts of the case without vomiting and having nightmares. Thanks Bailey!

my heart breaks for those women that suffered so much. and it angers me that the police did pretty much nothing and REFUSED to search the lake when cynthia literally told them.
So did her upbringing! Not just the police but society in itself
It matters on what machine they have to search, how deep the lake is and if they were to drain it then where is the money coming from to do so, she said it her self the area wasn't great which mean less employment, less money to use for the town. It's easy to point the finger, like it or not there are other elements involved they didn't just "Refuse to search the lake." I hope one day they can search but blaming the police sound ridiculous when you ignore the reality of it.

Like “know history, or be doomed to repeat it”, the background stories give voice to things that are red flags and should be learned from instead of ignored and swept under the rug.
