Today I wanted to talk about Cassie Jo Stoddart and her sad and terrible case.

Exactly it’s ridiculous people even think like that I don’t care how old you are and nobody else should it should be about bringing justice to those hurt
I personally believe it jail should never be seen as punishment (that point of view is the reason why sentences are being systematically reduced in the western world). Jail was invented to protect population from people who are dangerous to them. Of course there are situations and situations, but random killers with a thing for gore and a list of victims? I wouldn't risk it.

Yes. My cat knows when people are at the door before I do. So, if I see her bolt up, I freak out. 😅
I'm trying to imagine this from Cassie’s perspective, and my brain can't fathom how this poor girl experienced a real life horror film before dying. From the lights flickering to being home alone, to me that just make this whole case even worse. She was practically “tortured” by them.

I honestly would have called my mom and dad to check the house with me when the lights had partially come back on. I would have also looked outside to see if my neighbors homes still had lights on.

I put off watching this specific video because it happened in my home town. My brother-in-law went to school with them and we all knew people on the “hit list.” I definitely learned more from your video than I ever was told about this growing up.

You are the first person that I have seen cover the victim first. I have watched about 10 videos and 5 podcast episodes. The victims should always be what we care about first.

I grew up close to where this occurred. My mom worked at the jail, as a nurse, at the time this happened. She talked to one of the boys moms, not sure which one, while they were detained there during their trial. The mom was upset that her son couldn't have dental floss to floss his teeth (since it could be used as a weapon). My mom wanted to shout at her that is the least of his worries right now, he had just killed a girl. That statement right there just goes to show the mindset he was raised up in.
Two days later? My boyfriend talks to me everyday and would be super concerned if I didn’t respond for a couple hours, let alone a couple days, especially after what they experienced that night. SUSPISH
I once slept until 3pm after a 24hr shift and my fiance almost called the police he was so worried 😂
He did try to contact her and wanted to go there himself, but he couldn’t because he didn’t have his own car or license. It seems like he’s always being drove by his mom, and that his mom dictates what he does. When someone doesn’t reply to u in two days, you don’t immediately think of the worse. My friends sometimes take that long to respond. It’s a sad case that no one would’ve expected
Idk when I was that age my boyfriend and I would go days without speaking all the time. I guess it was just different back in the day. Not everyone had cell phones.. and idk it was just different.

People deal with grief differently. Some people like to grieve privately. I guess his emotionlessness was his way of grieving.

Torey's mother is delusional. Unfortunately there are woman whom refuse to accept the truth for what it is, regardless of the situation.
I did cry for Cassie's family. It is a heartbreaking story and I hope one day people will underrstand the term "an eye for eye". Cassie won't ever get a second chance at life and neither should they.
That’s my thought too. And the fact that even in the chance that he didn’t ‘participate’.. HE WAS THERE and did NOTHING to stop it. So at the very least he’s an accomplice and still f’n guilty!! 🤬
Reminds me of the Junko Furuta case when the mom was upset at Junko that she ruined her son's life... after the son tortured and killed Junko for 40 days. Go figure...
Casey Anthony's mom and Brian Laundrie's mom are just as delusional and twisted. They're defending the criminals and twisting the story to protect their children.
it wasnt even just his mom being delusional. I grew up in Blackfoot Idaho which is 30 minutes away from Pocatello and I'm the same age as them. Anyways I knew a woman at my mormon church back then. she was literally a witness for his character because she was one of his teachers. She absolutely for years and probably still now refused to think that Torey did anything there was no way cause he was a Mormon kid or whatever...like yeah cause no one that's Mormon has ever killed anyone or done something horrible before right? she was ridiculous.

Firstly this happened a while ago when phones were not as commonly used as today. Secondly he cannot drive. He depended on his strict mother for rides. If you watch other interviews the two murderers said they would have killed the boyfriend if he stayed.

When I was 13 I first got into true crime and one of my first major cases was Columbine. You mentioned the boys had a fascinations with the case as well (in a very different way than me lol). But I recognize the shots from the video they filmed of Cassie are nearly-identical shots of a video Eric and Dylan did before their attack /: so sick
I noticed that too.
Cassie was one of our best friends. We lived downstairs in a duplex with Cassie and her family. I sat through both trials. This will never go away for those of us involved. 💔

This was my class. I knew Cassie and Matt. And Torey’s family still to this day tries to act like he’s some innocent lamb. It’s so frustrating.

Would you mind sharing more about this? I have been interested in this case for years, and the fact that you were a classmate has piqued my interest. Were you close with Cassie? Did you know Torey and Brian? It's such a shocking case because her supposed friends killed her in such a horrific way. I'm guessing that Cassie's group of friends couldn't believe that two fellow friends committed this heinous crime. Look forward to your reply.
This also makes me wonder if the boyfriend had anything to do with it. Like why would his friends victimize his girlfriend?

That's pretty common in poky I've had a friend who spent the weekend alone with 3 kids she is in 8th grade
To be fair, the boyfriend was also sixteen and couldn’t drive. He called her and asked his mom and Torey to give him a ride to check on her and they both refused.
pretty common in idaho at that time period especially. I used to watch my younger siblings at home alone at the again of 12 or 13 at least so...lol Back then Idaho just seemed really really safe. Nothing like this had been known to this magnitude at the time of 2006. Also the boyfriend wanted to check in on her but couldn't this was also 2006 so we didn't have half of the stuff and technology that we have now.
She was probably SO SCARED 🥺 I can’t imagine being home alone & the lights going out, then two guys with mask & knives come out of the basement..... literally one of my worst fears. What a horrible way to leave this Earth.

It always bothers me that neither Matt nor his mother bothered to go check on her. Was it normal for her not to talk to him? Most couples would wonder why theyre not replying or at least his mother should have found it strange that she left a scared girl at a house alone and then never heard from her or wondered about her...
My favorite part of this episode was Bailey talking about how weird it was the boys didn’t remember anything about the movie they had seen recently. Then Bailey talking about a documentary she just watched the night before being like “hmm it’s called this is think” ily Bailey
The difference is that those boys idolized movies and bragged about being movie fanatics. They should have been able to remember what they watched.
Poor girl! Her life just took away by two dickheads.. So sad!

Just imagining how afraid she was, to then being relieved realizing it was her “friends” messing with her, letting her guard down. Like I can’t even fathom how she must have felt, my heart goes out to her
What kind of disturbs me more is that this happened on the other side of the state that I live in.
The boyfriend is sketch. Him inviting the friends was weird, him calling them to let them know when he was leaving was weird. Plus he told the cops they were at the movie when he called. I think he help set it up

You have to wonder about their parents values system: if they had any. If you grow up around violence & general dysfunction, you can get desensitised & it can become your norm.
I really don’t understand parents being like “no you can’t stay over” but then letting their kids hang out alone with their partner during the day. Like... if they’re gonna get down they’re gonna do it any time of day 🤦🏼♀️ makes no sense

I hate that we live in such a cold, profit driven society. If workplaces were democratic this would never happen. We should take care of people who go through such horrible things -- not leave them out in the cold because of their trauma. It's inhumane.

I work in employee law and there is something called theFamily Medical Leave Act. You need to do some research before you make such a blanket claim about workplaces not being "democratic."

Bailey, your heart was really on this one, don’t make apologies for that. This young girl was a Great Kid, Very Responsible was house sitting minding her own business and because those asshats decided what they wanted was more important they took her life and destroyed 4 immediate families, I can’t imagine her young cousin walking in Happy and then finding Cassie, she will never be the same. Actually in the documentary, Torey's dad said 'I know it's hard to be locked up when you know you're innocent" and even Torey was like "???" So the dad has definitely drank the Kool aid.
I think that if cases stopped being called by the murderer's name and called by the victim's, everything would be perceived differently.
That wouldn't work because if they have more than one victim which one will you choose?
I just know we shouldn't use their monickers like THE BOSTON STRAAAAAANGLEEEER HAHAHAHAA
Or maybe by a number. Never mentioning their name on tv or any other media.
Just their initials would be fine. The victims should have the voice. Also, I think it would be really great if we never print pictures of the predators faces. Only the victims stories should be told. No media printed about the killers at all. In Newspapers only print the victims and families above the fold!! We direct whose narrative bares importance, not predators or degenerates!!!

ok, but i feel really bad for Cassie’s cousin. i can’t even imagine the trauma she must have had to endure.
Cassie is my dads first cousin, my first once removed. This affects our family to this day. When we go to Pocatello for family reunions we always pray for her, her dad and I are very close, its very sad.

Cassie's cousin is actually my friend. I have been to that house hundreds of times and yoh can feel the pain from Cassie when u walk in that front door. It's heartbreaking. The family still mourns and it definitely messed up her cousin.

His friends told him they were going to the movies. They had tickets for some movie. So whatever noise he heard, he might have associated it with that.

The boyfriend seems really odd. Inviting his friends over without her permission. And letting them know when he left. Also the fact that he knew she was at someone else’s house after being scared. And not going back to check on her and just waiting days to find out if she was actually okay? MAJOR red flag. Like he just called, if that was me and my boyfriend and I didn’t answer after like 3 calls he’d be driving over there. Because he worries, so her boyfriend definitely had a part for sure.

I'm also confused, because he asked his mom if he could spend the night and she said no and then when she got there he asked again and she said no and then she drove him back home, presumably, and then he went out again to a movie?? That timeline doesn't really make sense, it seems more like he was trying to establish an alibi than anything.

I'd put my money on him knowing it was going to take place and wanting to stay (either to help or to prevent it) but when his mom made him go home he went to the movies to at least establish an alibi to say he wasn't involved in any way.

The US Supreme Court ruled that giving mandatory LWOP to minors was unconstitutional. Because of this, some people have been released, some have been given possiblity of parole and some were denied new sentences.
There's a tv show that follows some of these cases as they try to get new sentences.
I agree. I feel like once you’re a teenager you should be tried as an adult for such heainous crimes.
