    Question: Why England Are Favourites...
Answer: Because we're English and we ALWAYS overlook everyone else and ignore our weaknesses.
The fact we're even talking about Mainoo, (a kid with 14 league appearances in a mid table team), is just crazy to me. Luke Shaw's injured constantly. We have a CB who half the country mock every week. We all know how good Foden is... but he's not a fast winger, and we won't be playing him over Jude in the middle, so he's not good enough to own a position. Rashford is as spotty as can be with form. Our Keeper is in a relegation battling team, having conceded 39 goals already.
So, yes we have Kane, Jude, Rice, Walker and Saka but we're lacking in most places on the pitch.

Saka is good winger. But he is frustrating to watch when he plays for england in tournaments. He does not have great pace to get beyond players. He depends heavily on the Arsenal set up (same for foden at Man City). He needs other players to create space to get beyond a player. With southgate tactics fullbacks movement are one dimensional. Midfielders rarely enter box or look to play pin point passes like odegard. So end up getting boring games from him. I think sterling and rashford r more effective than he is for england based on Southgate tactics.

Bookies odds get skewed by money taken but my order of favouritism would definitely be France first, then the order after that is arguable but it'd include England and Portugal, then maybe Spain, and then Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Croatia all around the same level. Then, it gets more difficult, but I suppose Denmark and Switzerland and Austria come in next.
The difficult teams to predict are Germany and Italy because both have no form but if they make it through to the latter stages then look out. Both have a habit of winning rather than getting a nose bleed in the crunch situations and have won before having looked ordinary beforehand. They could also both bomb out spectacularly.

I'm not English, and the incessant media narrative is as boring and nauseating as ever, but let's have it right. This squad has far too much quality and balance to not be considered potential contenders. They've got the players to attack different opposition and the depth to be able to change games. As JLA said, it's time for England to stop being concerned by what opponents can do them and start thinking of themselves as a concern for opponents.

    Shaw
    Maguire
    Trent
    Rice
    Bellingham
    Foden
    Saka
    Kane
    Rashford
    France:
    Maignan(Areola)
    Theo
    Saliba
    Konate
    Boey(Kounde)
    Tchouameni
    Camavinga(WZE)

    RB: England
DM: England but closer than you think
    CM: England
    CM: England
    RW: England
    ST: England
    LW: France
It's very close between the two, alough France is stronger defensively with Saliba and Ibou, England are ridiculous everywhere else. Portugal or the Netherlands could be in the mix but the favorites are England or France.

How is Foden better as CM than Camavinga/rabiot. Foden is more Winger that drift in and out as CAM. He is is not box to box player for that reason alone he couldnt be the better CM. Also if u r thinking it is Bellingham is box to box midfielder u r also wrong he has moved away from playing CM and is more a CAM. I think france has better midfield bcuz they use camavinga and touchmeni/rabiot as holding and play Griezman as the CAM (he also defends well upfront better than foden). That gives them a better structure and clear style of play. Where as England midfield (which is real problem) has too many attacking players who dont compliment each other and lead to no structure and/or clear playng style (same problem they had with lampard and gerard all over again).

Foden has to start, how we get the best out of him is down to Southgate. I would suggest Walker holding back and Shaw or whoever plays left back is very attacking hugging the touchline, freeing Foden up (starting lw) to cook with Bellingham.
I'm a spurs fan and love Maddison but he's most definitely behind Foden and I would also say Palmer would be a better off the bench option ahead of Mads.
Rashford, Palmer and Watkins first attacking sub options.
3rd cm again we need to get the best out of our talent and Trent undoubtedly has fantastic passing and set pieces. Mainoo and Gallagher the other options. Hendo, please no!
I think Brainwaithe would be worth the risk, athletic, strong, aerially dominant, tidy on the ball and left footed which is a big factor, patterns of play will be key agaisnt the best sides and having a left footed cb could prove crucial. Maguire is OK but when a world class attacker takes him on, I don't like his chances

Favourites tag means nothing. What has Southgate's England done in knockout competitions away from home? Russia - semis v Croatia. That was a free pass after the disaster of Euros 2016. They still lost 3 matches in that tournament - 2 x to Belgium and to Croatia. Qatar - lost to France after only producing 8 shots on target in 100 mins of football. All very well having more possession, but they can't keep relying on set pieces to score; they need to create many more chances from open play inside the opposition penalty area. That means playing a higher line and being more compact as a team, not continually trying to pass around the periphery of teams and relying on set pieces. Rice is not a dictating, passing 6. Great at blocking shots, carrying the ball, but not a pass master.
A big part of the problem is the distribution from the back and playing slow centre backs and a keeper who doesn't really distribute from the back and plays too many long balls. Southgate doesn't set up his team to press high up the pitch, so doesn't create the spaces to exploit the opposition. It becomes far too easy to defend against and players high up the pitch who do get the ball receive the ball and get easily isolated in possession. We saw this v USA, France, in the WC and v Ukraine , NM away in the qualifiers. Even a poor Italy could have come back to draw the game had VAR not intervened to give a handball penalty.
England have never before got to a final of a WC or Euros when held overseas. This is the massive burden this England team have to overcome. The last 3 times a major tournament was held in Germany, they didn't; qualify (1974), 1988 - Lost all 3 matches and 2006 - QFs and out on penalties. What makes you think 2024 edition will be any different? Getting to the final would be a major achievement and surpass all previous England teams since 1950.
