- I get that you need to drum up excitement for your releases, but this was a bit of a let down @ElectroVoiceOfficial . That said, this looks like a great speaker with some exciting new features for those in the market for an entry level speaker.

What are your thoughts on this new ZLX G2 Speaker?
Might not be exciting for existing EV ZLX customers for sure but I'm on look out for speakers for small venue gigs (100 people) so I think these will be sufficient. I have one powered 12inch G2 on the way to me and if good I'll purchase a second. I've used RCF & Yamaha PAs in the past but expecting these to have a quality output regardless if people say they are entry level or not.
I don't think we're approaching it from the right side. The Zlx series is not primarily intended as a main sound system, or if it is, then for smaller spaces, for more mobile purposes, or as a monitor. For these purposes, with so many extra features, in this quality and for this money, it is very, very good. I don't think you should buy this for professional purposes.
I would try one first before you judge. I was looking for a speaker that would work well with my pearl mimic, as well as my quad cortex. This speaker no only improves upon the original design but adds features in the update that you dont normally see. Want it for live dj? Preset. Want FRFR for a modeler? They have a preset for that. Not only that but the 15" is insanely loud. As in you cant max it out before your ears are hurting. But its an incredibly clean signal that when using guitar allows for controlled feedback but when running vocals through it has a feedback blocker to prevent the mic from acting up if you get too close. With all the other DSP options and the beter sound as well as the color display and countless options I honestly wish they would do more press releases. Because compared side by side anyone who has the old version would probably make the switch if they arent just using it as a dedicated PA but want an all in one solution that does everything incredibly well for a price the old ones used ot cost.
Like I said, im sure it's a great speaker with nice upgrades that anyone with the predecessor would appreciate. But it's still an entry level speaker that wouldn't be able to keep up with the higher tiers as far as loudness and performance.
@@DJDarylBennett I can appreciate that. But I would say as far as entry level speakers go their are tiers. Just like mid range to high range to the ultra expensive. Im just sayint that in its price bracket and entry level status its at the top of the list in terms of features and sound quality. And lets say for the at home musician where the extra DB's and performance are not top priority It really might not be something for you to be excited about. And I get that. But anyone who is in the market for a Do all PA that sounds quite amazing I think its something to be very excited about. But thats just me. But I totally get that someone who is trying to fill a 250 person venue and have the best live sound they could get for a serious gigging musician its nothing to really look at. But for the at home muilti instrumentalist its just amazing.
Was really hoping for a bigger evolve system
To go against Evox 12 and Maui 44
MEEEEE tooooo
Bro I am looking for church use. EV compare to Yamaha DBR or JBL EON. What u say ? Thanks much.
ZLX when I started were the bomb, BUT, I quickly outgrew them and realized they didn't hit the levels I needed them to for many many events. They clipped so early and so badly, I couldn't deal with them.
Now, with companies like RCF, QSC, and LD having super amazing starter speakers, or higher tier speakers priced more competitively, I wonder how these 2nd gen ZLX sound and will sit in the market. Mine didn't stick around long after some growth, hopefully the mileage is higher on this run.
Slam dunk though for including the smart assist on this line. You create familiarity to entice newbies to stick EV even more and continue growing and using within the same ecosystem (Kinda like Apple, to borrow your analogy a little haha).
The zlx is a great entry level speaker, but some of the higher end speakers are better work horses. I’d like to see the app integration with all of their DJ speakers
@@DJDarylBennett I 100% agree, if someone starting asked me which EV to get today, even with this G2, I'd tell them to start looking at ELX2 and up because it'll last longer with growth.
Yeah, that app is insanely dope. I bounce between RCF, LD, and EV systems I have depending on my use purpose, but every time I'm on my RCF or LD, I do think "Damn I miss that app" 😂
@@IamDJFTR the ELX200 is an excellent speaker for a wedding/corporate DJ for pretty much any type of those events
I was hoping for something to compete against my LD 44G's from EV. I already own 10 ZLX's, 4 EV 50's and 2 EV 30m's and a bunch of other speakers so nothing exciting here.
Agreeeed. I think if you had to buy more ZLX's, you'd appreciate the nice new features, but it's not the Evolve 80 we've been wanting
Let's not be unfair. We do not know the exact sales numbers of other EV production lines, we have no idea how profitable and important the whole PA segment is for them..
The original ZLX was a big hit. Also Everse8 was probably a hit, something like that doesn't happen with every new product or product line. The larger version Everse12 (and still relatively new) should also be a hit.
It is not easy to find a hole in the market, to invent something new that is worth producing, when the technical options available to all manufacturers are more or less similar. It is also impossible to please all customers.
The ZLX had some issues and drawbacks (low SPL, poor amp cooling, early clip) and two huge advantages - sound and price. I hope they tried to keep the benefits and solve the problems, at least some of them. The competition is also not sleeping, so an upgrade was already necessary, the previous facelift from the ZLX-P version to the ZLX-BT version was more cosmetic (and I still don't understand why it lacked TWS).
But ... in my opinion, the new ZLX G2 now looks like some kind of downgrade of the ELX200 (missing suspension points) at a price of only approx. $150 less. Is this the beginning of the end for the ELX200 or will the G2 price go even lower to make a bigger difference? What is the sound difference between them?
Relatively out-of-date EKXs were recently available at our importer on sale for the price of ELX200 with all their bells and whistles. So one could choose to prefer BT connectivity and lower weight over great sound.
The only thing holding steady is the price of ETX. :-(
Not saying that the ZLX doesn't have a place in the ecosystem... It just doesn't really have a place in most experienced DJs arsenals, like you mentioned, the ELX is better and not much more expensive.
The EKX are an awesome speaker for professional mobile DJs
Your camera setup in this video is amazing! Upgrade? Looks fantastic
Thanks! I sometimes use my DSLR camera at my desk, and sometimes I use my webcam. I've gotten pretty efficient at using the DSLR and have been trying to use it more often
@@DJDarylBennett yeah buddy! That dlsr is the ticket! You look great. What one are you using?
Thanks! The Sony a7c with a tamron 17-28mm

I feel EXACTLY the same as you. I didn't think they were gonna release a bigger column array but I secretly thought they were because EVERYONE was hinting about it on the forums lol. Oh well... me personally I have ZERO interest in this product. Big let down for me.
It takes a while for EV to release to the market, but when they do, they do it right. But I thought it's been sufficient time since the evolve 50, and people are leaving them for Evox 12 and Maui 28 & 44 in droves.
Glad it's not just me haha
I thought exactly the same thing as you. I'm personally still happy with my EV-50s but I know MANY long for a bigger column array system from EV. Seems to me like EV is ignoring a huge opportunity to make a lot of dough here.
@@DJ2Legit007 I'm told that they'll eventually do it, so we'll just have to wait and see. Next time they hype me up, I'll lower my expectations lol
I was hoping some etx something as I’m about to buy etx 12s I have the 15 subs. How do you find the etx vs the evolves? Much louder? Better?
I'd hope we'd get some quality of life features on the ETX since they've been around since 2013.
The etx system is much better sounding and louder than any column array system on the market. They're just not the most convenient compared to column arrays
Y own ekx and etx ? Etx can do everything the ekx can do and more 🤔
@@mrproblemchild88able ekx is way less bulky and about 1/2 the weight and almost as loud
I’m honestly surprised on how cost effective the price is on all their models.
I think EV provides a lot of value
Same. Underwhelmed, more like it’s about time you updated your entry level features to match the competition… 🤷🏻
Well said!
I felt the same way. Was disappointed. And you would think it should have been battery powered.
I mean we did just get the Everse 12 which is battery powered
EV Zlx clip so easy and after hours of use sound like trash. For short small events only.
But it's great to have an affordable speaker for those short small events
I was very disappointed.
I feel ya bro
They way overhyped it
Glad it’s not just me that thinks that!
Electro Voice is dead.
The company that made name and fame in the international touring industry that is.
Nowadays it's just another company owned by Bosch producing nothing spectacular for as cheap as possible in China and selling it for more than what it is worth.
They already killed Dynacord in that process.
It's basically the same as Harmann-Kardon is doing with JBL and Soundcraft (among others) and Uli Behringer with Turbosound, Midas, Klark Teknik, Lab.Gruppen and so on.
You need to be in your fourties to remember when all those companies actually meant something.
Ev still makes speakers for permanent installs and tours. Maybe they were better back in the day, but I've been pretty pleased with what I've purchased from them
@DJDarylBennett
They haven't come up with anything (shockingly) new for the touring industry for the last 15 years at least and their rider acceptance has dropped (at least in Europe) to 0%.
Do I even have to start about Dynacord on which they are now doing a "Uli (Behringer)" which means they are using the brand name to upsell China made crap in their already upsold China made crap that has zero to do with the brand from 20 years vaak when they were still credible.
I don’t think you guys are getting it. This is primarily in my opinion focus on the Guitar modular community and the acoustic guitar singer community.
Which is fine, but the marketing towards DJs was overhyped. Like I said, an EV DJ influencer looked me in the eyes and told me as fellow DJ to get really excited for this release.
