That's also why the majority of the audio is missing on Genesis and the arcade soundtrack is nowhere to be found.

    The samples are clearer on the Mega Drive version, and the graphics have a bit more contrast, but the SNES version wins, at least visually and aurally. Sega's insistence to not put ADPCM hardware into any machine prior to the Dreamcast was a bad idea which explains the lack of samples in such games, the reduced quality or, in the case of the Mega Drive and 32X, the decision to fall back onto FM for the effects.

The only other samples are "fight", "finish him/her" and Scorpion's "come here" - and they sound much better on the SNES, like every other SFX and music. It's because Probe is a really lazy developer, it's like you said - Sculptured would have made a better Megadrive-version than Probe, also better graphics (colors, shadows, Goro's lair, more background-details etc.) with making better use of the hardware's abilities. Probe even messed up the 32x- and Saturn-ports as well, they could be so much better than they are, it's just sad what they did...

      The PC version may look more like the arcade but it sounds like shit, so I have to disagree. And Where do people get this idea that the Mega Drive or the 32X had horrible sound??? Just because on paper the Snes had 10 channels and the Mega Drive had 8 doesn't mean anything at all, the way each system handled sound is totally different. I love my Mega Drive BECAUSE of the sound, I actually have it running through my home cinema system just because I love to listen to Mega Drive soundtracks. The Snes on the other hand tried to make sound more realistic but it generally sounds like muddy crap. I have never come across a game ported to the two systems which actually sounded better than the Mega Drive version the only exceptions being Super Street Fighter 2 and the Lion King but both not by much.

      I couldn't disagree more. I have looked up a few videos of the PC version and it looks the business but the music is bloody awful, and besides a PC is not a console even if it was good. Name a port with better sound on the Snes other than the two I mentioned above...I'm not saying the Snes wasn't sometimes capable of good music and it did happen now and then, but in general the Mega Drive just rocked, was loud and bold not all wimpy soft and muddy like the Snes, just listen to mortal Kombat 1 for starters and other ports like the intro to Desert Strike and Urban Strike or Terminator 2 The Arcade Game even Earthworm Jim. when it came to rocking loud and bangin soundtracks the Snes just couldn't compete

      @Rob55Levo Před 7 lety +2

      I'm talking strictly about the myth that the Mega Drive had inferior sound when compared to the Snes not how the games looked. A lot of kids are getting into the retro scene these days so they never lived through the 90's so they just go on how things look on paper and whats trendy, it pisses me off is all, they don't know things like the Mega Drive was released over 2 years before the Snes so the Snes should of slaughtered the Mega Drive but the Mega Drive kicked the Snes ass constantly. These kids just don't realize what an amazing achievement the Mega Drive was.

    • @Rob55Levo
      @Rob55Levo Před 7 lety

      Yeah but the Snes version of MK1 sucked, controlled horribly and was massively censored, a larger color pallet didn't help them, which says a lot. And the Mega Drives success with MK1 forced Nintendo to stop censoring games so much. But anyway I just believe that probes version was a lazy port. There is no reason not to have all the voices and some of the backgrounds were missing details, and they used the same font as mortal kombat 1 not the font from the arcade all of which was fixed in the 32X version. I'm not saying the Mega Drive version wasn't fully playable and fun, it just should of been much better than it was. A versão do MEGA DRIVE / SEGA GENESIS tem as músicas melhores, a resolução melhor e o mais importante na minha opinião que é a jogabilidade melhor. A versão do Mega Drive ficou muito simplificada,vários cenários falta detalhes, as vozes praticamente não tem,o estranho de tudo isso que uma hack faz algo incrível uma versão bem mais completa de Mortal kombat 2,a produtora que fez a versão para o Mega Drive realmente fez com muito desleixo, aqui o vencedor é o Snes,com vários detalhes nos cenários e com várias vozes deixou o game bem mais completo.

    This is where the kids who weren't even born in the 16 bit war era, or was grown up enough to know better, will comment. Personally I own both versions, but was truly disappointed in what Probe didn't do for the Genesis version of MK2. Sculptured Software did a better job, and it shows with the SNES version, likely the reason they were commissioned to do MK3/UMK3 on the Genesis, which turned out pretty good for both systems.

      no, it has little details that make it worse than the snes port. being a cd it takes more time to load, then when you do a fatality it doesn't turn dark and the music doesn't change. also, you have to go out of your way to activate all the voices. that's annoying.
      oh, by the way, mk3 is better on genesis, the snes one looks better in terms of color but the sound is too muffled and the gameplay feels weird. it plays better on genesis.

    I remember at the time as a Megadrive owner, being so envious at how much better looking at sounding the SNES version was.
    Playing them now, I can see the Megadrive version does have some advantages such as in controller response and arguably the music, but personally, I preferred the goofy atmosphere of the SNES version to the moody Megadrive version. Definitely I did as a kid and ultimately, that's what mattered.

      Sega T-800 when I was a kid, my cousin owned the Genesis version, I rented it a bunch. When I played on SNES, I noticed the foreground chains on Deadpool, and more Shao Khan speech, except the speech was very muffled and the graphics overall blurry. I also thought the faces on SNES were ugly, because they are. I also noticed how much better the Genesis version played. But any way you slice it, the differences were incredibly marginal in my eyes and still are. Fanboys blow this one WAYY WAYY out of proportion.

      The Sega version isn't mind blowing or anything. The player sprite just does what you tell it to, like it should.

    With all the hardware limitation the megadrive had, its version did not make ugly for super nintendo, some details in the digitalization of the characters, and in some scenarios of the game, they were better in the genesis, however the super nintendo, not only has a more advanced hardware, but showed a better performance, where it was possible to get many results that could not be obtained in the mega drive, but still the mega-drive version was very good but limited in things that I prefer more on the super nintendo version.

    SNES wins... almost flawless victory. The only things the Genesis does better is the resolution and the fact that the game runs in full screen. Except that, the SNES version has better graphics thanks to much better colors, more parallax scrollings, more details in the background and foreground. Better sound on SNES, musics, sound effects and more digitized voices. Also... no need to buy a special controller and a hardware add on...
