    Even during fights the Genesis/Mega Drive is not only missing backgrounds, animations and vocal sounds but is still missing frames during character movements, most notably forward and back jump flips. @@greensun1334 Technically speaking the Genesis/Mega Drive's port is closer to the arcade because it also used the same MC68000 CPU and X8088 instruction set but the Genesis/Megadrive just didn't have the parallax scrolling, color distribution and audio sample reading capabilities the SNES had. The sprites look clearer on the Genesis/Mega Drive because it used scan lines instead of pixels and the lack of color actually helped improve the sprite images. The SNES port is still by far a better port even though I owned the 32X port the SNES port seemed more fluid, quicker and still had better color distribution and music closer to the arcade. The 32X port did however have the monk floating up and down in the Tower and Portal stages and had the pillars in the Portal stage where they were broken and removed from the SNES Portal stage. The SNES also had the character names below the life bars instead of having the names inside the life bars and it was also missing the eerie oozing sound when "Fatality" would be announced.

    • @tskraj3190
      @tskraj3190 Před 4 lety

      @@TheDormonid The Genesis/Mega Drive port was closer to the arcade as far as gameplay. Many forget that developers did their very best to make the Genesis/Mega Drive ports better than the SNES ports due the Sega's Game Party contracts but the truth is the reason those anticompetitive contracts were issued in the first place was because Sega was fully aware they could not compete against the SNES in a fair fight. In the first MK The SNES had almost arcade perfect graphics and sound but no blood due to Nintendo not having a rating system at the time. MK2 the SNES had the rating system and the blood but they had to change some aspects of the game to prevent it from being arcade perfect such as placing the names beneath the bars, removing the columns in the portal and keeping floating monks stationary instead of them floating up and down. These were not hardware limitations at all. The SNES could scale 4 parallax scrolling backgrounds simultaneously and provide diverse sprite motions without hindering the main CPU due to it's seperate PPUs. Also the SNES can provide 64X64 sprites just like the Arcade did but the Genesis/Mega Drive maxes out at 32X32. In the MK games it only displays 32x16. Also if developers really wanted to push the SNES to it's limits they could of used the SNES's SA-1 Accelerator chip which not only processes an additional two parallax scrolling backgrounds but also adds 10.75 MHz to the WDC 65c816's 3.58 MHz.

    • @MaxwelThuThu
      @MaxwelThuThu Před 4 lety

      @@tskraj3190 SA-1 can't add any parallax layer. Actually, there's no special chip that makes the PPU more capable than it is.
      It just works as a secundary CPU. I don't think a game like Mortal Kombat 2 would need that, the game plays fine and missing objects can be just ROM space limitations.

    • @camulodunon
      @camulodunon Před 3 lety

      @@tskraj3190 I'm sorry, but the Genesis' hardware can definitely keep up with the SNES. 64x64 sprites on the SNES were very hard to work with, and were seldom rarely used. The only real viable sprites to work with for a game like MK were 32x32 or 32x16. Also, the dual PPU's make pretty much no difference in how it works. They are separate chips, yes, but they still share the same bus, the same SRAM, etc. They are functionally a single GPU.
      Not to mention, the SNES has tons of hardware issues compared to the Genesis. 8-bit data bus, inability to display 4:3 properly, ultra-compressed samples, etc. So much for a console that was released 2 years later, eh?

    Bom comparativo, porém antes de fazer uma comparação desse tipo tens que levar em conta o Aspect Ratio de cada plataforma. O Snes, Arcade e Mega Drive operavam cada um em sua respectiva resolução, porém todos originalmente enviavam a imagem para uma tv CRT. A tv não leva em consideração a resolução nem o A.R., portanto alguns consoles com A.R. diferente de 4:3 (no caso do Snes 8:7) a imagem ficava "esticada". Os designers faziam os sprites pensando nisso. Por isso que quando rodado num emulador, os sprites de Snes aparecem meio "magros". Se fores capturar as imagens via emulador, tens que primeiro ir nas opções e corrigir o A.R. pra 4:3. Tem um canal que explica esses detalhes e muito mais: Displaced Gamers. Probe really killed the animation in the Genesis/Mega Drive version of MK1. Compared to Sculptured Software, who did the SNES versions of MK1+2, Probe seemed to have a really hard time squeezing things into a reasonable amount of space. MK2 fared better but was missing the low punches and most voice samples.
    This was really highlighted when Sculptured did both the SNES and Sega versions of MK3, and managed to retain all the moves as well as most of the animation and voices. IIRC, the Sega version actually has the better animation of the two. Also, Probe's Mega CD conversion of MK1 somehow takes up more space than the arcade game, and that's excluding the music and opening video sequence.

      Because unlike the Genesis and the original Arcade, SNES's screen resolution is known as " a square type of resolution", and that is because there is little difference between the horizontal and vertical lines: 256x224 while both the Genesis and Midway T-Unit Board use "rectangular resolutions" (vertical line numbers are way higher than horizontal lines), so the sprites can be translated between both more easily, but when porting those sprites to the SNES graphist have to shrink or in some cases redraw all the graphics completely to make them fit on the SNES screen.

      @@laumpolumpio Incorrect. The SNES has a default of 256X224P but has a max resolution of 512X448P or 512X478i the Genesis/Mega Drive's default is also 256x224 but has a max of 320X224P. The KFusion emulator has a default of 320X224 but this is incorrect. The SNES Emulators are capped at 256x224P because they are based on the Ricoh 5A22 for backwards compatibility with NES Roms and not the WDC 65c816 the SNES console used which is also why the emulators cap out at 2.68 MHz instead of 3.58 MHz of the SNES console. But to actually answer the round head question, The Genesis/Mega Drive has one advantage over the SNES in sprite tiles and that is multidimensional tile capabilities. For example the Genesis/Mega Drive has seperate Rom cache that gives it time to process the tiles and send them to the VDP which allows mixed sprites of 32x16, 16X32, 16X8, 8X16 etc. The SNES has larger sprite capabilities but the sprites have to have even dimensions such as 64X64, 32X32, 16X16, 8X8 etc.

    It seems like the Super Nintendo people knew they had a better device, so they didn't compensate at all, the Sega Genesis looks like the people that put Mortal Kombat on their system looked over every little square a lot closer, I noticed if you just look at the picture as a whole on the Super Nintendo the sound and picture is just better however their faces look like they were shoved in a waffle cooker, something about how the Sega Genesis did the shine on like the pants Kung Liu or Johnny cage's chest shine or Liu Kang's chest shine just looks better, something about how the Sega Genesis had a smaller color palette just made the characters pop a little bit more, where as the Super Nintendo looks like it was juggling a whole lot of different stuff, the Sega Genesis background which takes up 75% of the screen is just AIDS puke, the sound on the Sega Genesis isn't even the same sound, on MK3 if Sub Zero freezes you it sounds like a xylophone on sega, overall if you are playing Mortal Kombat on an 18 or 25 inch TV the Super Nintendo is just going to blow you away with the sound in the whole picture looking decent, however that Sega Genesis just makes the characters pop, although jacks looked not so good on Sega Genesis, I'm not sure why Super Nintendo butchered all the Shadows, when I watch the side-by-sides I noticed the Genesis always has some kind of creator compensating a whole lot to make their products stick out, where the Super Nintendo just looks like they let the system animate everything for them and then worried about the stereo sound, the truth is I'm not even really impressed with a PS1 version of the Mortal Kombat 1,2 & 3 side-scrollers, I'm a little bit upset that now that I have a $2,000 surround sound 9 speaker radio and a 65in 4K TV I can't just somehow get the arcade version which is moderately better than the PS1 versions, the frame rate on the Genesis looks like an epileptic fell out during the animation and they just said fuck it, however I'm not sure how Super Nintendo messed up Shang Tsung's animation so bad, I heard the PS1 had better sound on MK3 than the actual arcade that was recorded in mono because you know an arcade has one subwoofer and maybe 2 voice speakers, I need to find me a dork that can get me the visual of the arcade and the sound of the PS1 but the fluid motion of the arcade picture and somehow put it on, preferably to be played with a Super Nintendo controller but I could deal with using a PS4 or a PS2 controller or even a keyboard or some shit, if you play this video in slow-motion or pause it the Sega Genesis actually looks better on the characters but if you play it normal speed or fast speeds the Super Nintendo Takes the Cake, I got Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PS1 that I can play on my PS2 but I don't think the monks are even animated in the background where they're supposed to be clapping, I think I'm going to order MK2 for PS1 which is only put out in Japan and the MK3 for PS1 which won't run me 75 God damn dollars like mk2 will
