the genesis port is very impressive considering how less powerful it is compared to the ps1.
I wish those same people made the mk1 and mk2 ports, I bet they could have made something closer to the originals.
Man the Genesis port was amazing really considering it was on 8 year old hardware.
Indeed, so much just compressed in a cartridge and it still has around the same functionality and presentation.
Yeah sculptured software knocked that one out the park........Imagine if probe did it, No announcer voice for sure
@Scorpion24 agree. Probe sucked.
Mortal kombat 1 always blew my mind. I'm pretty sure it was a 12 meg cart? Yet it could barely say fight and finish him? Wtf?
Mortal kombat 2 was 24 megabytes I'm pretty sure. Double but even it had trouble with voices?
Mortal kombat 3 was a much larger game due to all the pre rendered stages. It had more characters and yet it included all the voices.
I have said it before and I'll say it again Probe entertainment sucked so bad. The sega CD Mortal kombat was laughably bad considering it was on a huge disc. It even had trouble with the voices. Then the 32X version was the genesis version with more color added and the voices. My favorite though is Mortal kombat 2 on the Saturn. Get ready to laugh at how bad this one is.
To this day I don't understand Probe entertainment. If they had just put like round 1 , fight , finish him and maybe fatality that would have made a world of difference. They couldn't even manage that.
Yet hackers did it in record time?
This was such an amazing and mind blowing port. Its a shame UMK3 had to cut so many corners to fit on a 4MB cart.
The genesis is .... Holding up very well!!!
I love my genesis!! ❤️
The Mega Drive version is far more taxing of its hardware and deserves praise just for that.
MD had an impressive port with mk3 and umk3. who knows what happened if Sculpture did also mk1 and mk2
2006chame YESSSS!
2006chame I anwsts day that ..& wished they had went back remade the two games at the time......
Probe was ultimate sht...
They didn’t know how to program for nothing ..and sculpture should have taken over after mk1..
They did the snes versions
2006chame Sculpture did better work, but that doesn’t make MK1 and MK2 on Genesis bad.
@@youtubeadmin1588 mk2 on megadrive has more animation frames
Megadrive holds up well
GENESIS has done very well, specially for a console that had been released in 1988 and it's 16 bit, Mortal Kombat 3 released in 1995 and it was high end game at that time
Back in the days, when arcade ports were transcending the hardware of the home consoles
I think the 32-bit era was the final nail in the coffin of the traditional Western Arcade
Never liked the loading times.. Closer the the arcade then the 16 bit consoles.. But I could not stand the loading times.. The Genesis held up very will on this one compared to the first two games.. They ditched Probe and the port came out better.. The SNES and Genesis version held up well I thought.. Both have their limitations, but both managed to use their limitations fully and make due..
Mega drive love it and for the limitations on the hardware this shows the MD was a great console
I never played the genesis port as I bought the ps1 port on release day. It's amazing what the team did to the genesis release. The sound designers should have won awards for what they did here. Plus the gfx make this look like a completely different console compared to mk1 and 2 ports.
I knew that as soon as Sculptured software was given the genesis ports of MK that the quality would be so much better than the Probe ones. This was proof of that for sure.
The PSX port was amazing. Jaw dropping when I first played it. Almost arcade perfect. It was ported in house by SONY
But loading was long as fuck
@Death Adder no no no I ain't no boomer. I call out everything. But after PS2 came Sony itself started calling it the PSX. Besides I had it and every PS ever made. So I'm not not millennial casual fan.
@Death Adder so SONY themselves called it the PSX later on during its life cycle but they're wrong and you're right? You lost the argument man. Back to your mom's basement you go.
@Death Adder 😂😂
@Death Adder It was known as 'PSX' in the 1994-1997 period. That's not something Zoomers came up with. If you look at print media of the time, you'll see the acronym used often in reference to Sony's hardware.
I believe it was also an internal designation at one point.
MK3 was the first time Genesis got an MK port that looked/sounded anywhere close to the 32-bit original. I was really impressed when I saw screenshots and thrilled when I bought it.
Esse canal é o melhor de todos! Podia ficar o dia inteiro fazendo maratona!! Eu tenho o MK 3 de Mega é excelente!! E tenho ele tbm no PlayStation!!
People complain how bad voice samples are from sega genesis...But it seems that none knows mortal kombat series on sega genesis.
They complain because these are based on the original arcade versions and they are an obvious downgrade. MK just wasn't really designed for a 16 bit console. I know the MK series plenty on Sega because that's all I had as a kid but even I know they are inferior versions, even back then I knew that lol.
I know right? At least the voice samples are there. When Probe made MK 1 &2 they were not.
The fact that MK3/MK3U had so many secrets and hidden menus made me fall in love with it instantly (well apart from it being Mortal Kombat)
I noticed this as well!
Bem observado 👍
The sounds of the hits from combos on genesis was important back then. When for instance playing SNes version, when you do a combo. Only the first crack is heard then it's just sound of opponent going UH UH UH UH...On Genesis it was closer to arcade in many little details like this..Compared to Super Nintendo anyways. That's saying something when MK2 on snes was fantastic for similar attention to what you feel from the arcade experience. They can only do so much so focusing on getting the elements integral to translate this is key. I loved my lil Genesis and MK3 was the charm back in the day.
the sega one looks great for a system from 89. most powerfull system of that era.
HUB GOBLIN no, just no
@HUB GOBLIN No, Snes need add Chips in the cartridges, because sucks. Sega Megadrive is hardware from 1988 and Snes from 1990
Eddiepsp the most powerful 16 bit system is not Mega Drive, SNES or Neo Geo. It's the Super ACan which came out in 1995
Axel Janes I think you didn't understand my reply, or who it was too. I was reply to someone saying the SNES was the most powerful.
HUB GOBLIN nope. Snes was the weaker console just had a better color palette. Why do you think snes had some much slowdown and loading going on lol
Holy cow, that Genesis port looks incredible
I had Trilogy on PS1 and UMK 3 for my Saturn and my Genny. I found the Genesis version to actually be my favorite way to play. Obviously the ugliest one of the bunch but the six button pad and the responsiveness of it was just better. I could barely beat the tower on PSX or Saturn but the Genesis build was much more playable to me and more fun.
While I like Trilogy better, I still play UMK3 on the Mega Drive. It has a certain charm to it. It definitely beats most ports of it's time in responsiveness though for sure.
hey what up I like your videos is cool
To this day the Sega Genesis still impressive me more than just about any system ever made and I never really cared too much for the super Nintendo to be honest but it had some pretty great games also.
Genesis was competing with SNES that was 3 years ahead of it. I was a Sega fan and still to this day
Expected the Genesis to get blown out of the water here but looking at it now, the jump from 16 to 32 bit wasn't near as dramatic as I remember it!
Why can't I look away from the Genesis/MD version? Good job with the port, whoever's did it. I always thought William's did it them selves, especially after the Probe disasters of MK1 & 2. MK3 proved me right in a long disagreement I had about the ports of the first two games. Good stuff!
Ww Jnz I really don’t get all these people calling MK1 and MK2 “disasters”. Genesis was the place for MK1, the SNES port was the disaster. MK2 had flaws and certainly not as accurate as this work but was still a decent looking MK2 port with fantastic gameplay and music.
mk3 on mega drive is better than umk3 - voice for names, balance, shadows and other graphix
Олег Лето they should have used the lock-on cart from Sonic & Knuckles...so u can attach unk3&mk3 and get all the voices ,characters and stages ....that would have been amazing
Stuff had to be sacrificed to fit more characters in, don't forget the axing of Sheeva too in UMK3 for the 16 bit consoles.
Seeing the PS1 version leaves me thinking that Sony thinks more about its customers by offering more detailed quality than Nintendo itself.
man they did really admirable jobs on these 16-bit ports
Sega did a great port! 🤙🎮👍
It’s such a shame ,probe did mk1&2 just
Made the Genesis look like it wasn’t capable
kiam- 48hour records MK1 looked great and even MK2 wasn’t that bad looking. Not as high quality as this though.
MK1 on Genesis and Sega CD looked horrible, MK 2 on Genesis was a much better effort, though MK 3 on Genesis was when someone competent finally took over the series.
Bloodreign1 horrible my ass. MK1 looked fine on the system, played great had excellent music and uncensored. Snes looked more like the arcade but otherwise that version was completely broken.
@@youtubeadmin1588 Both versions are piss ass easy, even on their hardest settings. It did look like a ton of shit on the Genesis, people only played it on the console due to the shock value, and for no other reason. You can't possibly tell me MK 1 on Genesis even looked remotely good with tons of animation frames for even background objects removed, versus MK 2 which looked a hell of a lot better, though it still had animations removed entirely, but not nearly as much as the first game.
NONE of the 16 bit consoles of MK 1 were any good, Sega CD version included, especially when there was a PC MS-DOS CD version that absolutely tore all the other ports a new asshole.
Mk1 on genesis did not frikkin look good,
It looked damn terrible.
Sprite work, color , stages everything stinked horribly.
Mk2 they gave probe a bigger ram.cart and they filled it up with the animations.
Probe was dogshit, all their games looked like first generation on genesis. Because they couldn’t program for systems with limited ram that required technical skills.
They used up all the ram on the 8mb cart
On the life-bars 🙊, when they could have dithered and transparent that stinking life bar and had enough memory for more sprites to graphics.
If treasure,Virgin or travelers tales had did the conversion it would have been a different story.
Nice to see this kind of video from you.
I have played arcade, pc-dos and genesis version of game. I didn't know that ps1 version has loading and framerate issues!
wow Megadrive!!!!!
Colocar tudo do Arcade!!!
Really makes me appreciate the playstation x
I was maybe 15 at the time. I had a genesis and ps1. The problem was the tv i used was from 1986. So for me the graphics didnt matter much because my tv sucked.
Better dithering techniques really squeezed an extra year or two out of Sega's VDP
16 bit versions do a respectable job, but most stages lack at least one layer of parallax in the background and sometimes on the floor too.
very good mega drive port with no load times
16 bit vs 32 bit WTF?
Im on 100% agree with u!

I have many consoles in my collection but megadrive is one of the special for me, I wish u to try and play in "MUST have" exclusive games on this console and may be u will admire MD :) because it has BLAST PROCESSOR :)))))
ВИП южбор you don’t see the huge difference on graphics But the genesis holding up good like the SNES
Maurílio Lima de Francis Silva nah best console on that time was snes buddy sega is good but wasn’t the best sorry .....
Ps1 can't handle saying round 1
Great video, but it's miss labeled as "Ultimate" MK3
Why no fatality in the PS version, was it harder to perform?
Not hard to do them at all, just as easy as any other home port at the time.
In fact it is easier due to the d-pad and the option of button mapping compared to Sega Megadrive controller although the SNes Controller is as great as the Playstation's.
If only Sculptured Software had done a 32X version with 40-48 megabits, it may have been the best console port out there, especially with no load times & the graveyard included, which both the SNES & Genesis had to cut out. Probably could've had the intro screens too
Definitely
32x was already dead
@@UFighterX - yeah I know. Sculptured would've done a bang up job had the console hung on for even another year, seeing as how much they squeezed out of the Genesis version with only 32 megabits. It basically could've been the Playstation version minus the arcade perfect music but no load times. I'd take that trade
No comparison here. PS1 was a monster (had to be as it was a console from a different generation altogether) but Sega Genesis still good, considering the severe hardware limitations. PS1 version is likely displaying thousands of colors as opposed to Genesis' 64 onscreen colors.
I honestly think the 16-bit versions are pretty good, the problem is the underlying game being ported (MK3) is far from a gem. I've seen so many komplaints about the SNES port (everyone talks about slowdown and such) but I'd honestly rather play the SNES version than the PS1 version. (Yeah, I get I'm biased since I owned the SNES version.) Still, this video has changed my opinion on the MD version a little, but the limited color pallet and sound still bring it down for me.
Ps1, this is the best genesis mortal kombat of all times. Sculpture really selected better color selection than mk1 and mk2 combined. I wish those ports were developed by sculpured instead which will play closer to the arcade versions.
Velocidade, layout e jogabilidade.
Why did this vid make me plug my sega in?
Loading... Loading... Loading... Please kill me!
TheTourist most of the loading screens here are bc it would have been too far ahead of the Sega version
There is 1 mile difference between both versions, MD did what they could but PS1 is almost an Arcade Perfect!
Comparing Genesis tech to PS tech is pretty pointless, but I liked seeing in real-time how close the 16-bit can match the 32. And the only way the PS version would NOT have ended up being almost arcade-perfect would have been if Probe had developed it.
Zing!
It's insane to me that the Genesis version actually has MORE frames of animation. Go figure!
So the PS1 does not say 'round 1'?
I like playing spot the difference. The word 'FIGHT' animates into a swirl on the Genesis whilst the SNES only shrinks down. Motaro is bigger on SNES though. But SMD version is a little faster and smoother.
What video did you watch ? This is ps1 not SNES
@@BIGGIEDEVIL I’m so dumb
If you were fast enough, u could perform the jump punch combo starter in mk3
To me, the PlayStation port of MK3 is very close to the arcade. The only problem is the loading times, & Shang Tusng's transformation.
Na próxima faz Umkh V0.6 hack (Mega Drive) VS Umk3 (Mega Drive)
Bloody good effort from a 1989 16 bit system.
Ps1 is arcade perfect minus load times.
Actually, the PS1 port is very close to the arcade.
Michael Foster can you read? My comment clearly says arcade perfect except for load times, which are non existent on arcade and quite long on ps1.
Check Retro Core's video called Battle of the ports - MK3, and you know that would be ture.
Sculptured Software gave Genesis owners the best version they could, limited to a 32 megabit cart. No load times & tons of cheats are its only advantages over PS1. Good show!
Damn Loading times, I keep the Sega Genesis version all the way, it is more Epic. I mean it was a great port and if you are a real gamer, graphics are not the must important thing in a game, but gameplay. and the Sega's 6 buttons Controller is still great for fighting games.
wow they could have made a great port of this on sega cd
It'd be great!
It'll be terrible on Sega CD due to load time, Sega 32X would had handle it better.
@@VOAN if only the sega cd had a ram cart it could have loading a lot of the game on the cart first and then the loading would not have been as bad like the saturn did with xen vs streetfighter I wish they would have only thought of that
And I wish Mortal Kombat 3 added more character like a scorpion and reptile and also Ermac also rain
Excellent game for Genesis but only good for PSX (I know is an arcade perfect). So, I prefer the 16 bits version.
Actually, the PlayStation port is very close to the arcade.
I have the Genesis version, and it's surprisingly accurate compared to the Playstation version.
I really don't like Shang Tsung's AI in all of the Mortal Kombat 3, he act like all the regular characters now and only shoot fireballs or do combos but rarely ever morph unlike his MK1 & MK2 versions before him. It just makes him that much easy to beat.
Wow, I’m surprised but the character sprites look pretty much identical, at least if watch these two little windows on an iPhone screen lol
Its not even close check it out on a larger screen
BIGGIEDEVIL actually it’s very close, when I was a kid I saw next to no improvement with MK3 and WWF Arcade going from Genesis to PS1/Saturn.
Would've Gone For PS1 if The Loading Times Weren't So Shit
This is normal MK3 - not UMK3...
How in the world did genesis play mk3.nice
This is like comparing 4K UHD to VHS.
no its not
River White not really. Maybe DVD to VHS at best.
PS1 port's a closer conversion of the arcade version in spite of the load times (which would be an inconvenience with Shang Tsung's transformations). The Genesis port's pretty much pushing the console to its limit. A fair amount of sound bytes, background details, proper game screens, a stage (the Graveyard), and character sprite frames were nixed from the port. But what's there is pretty impressive for a 16-bit port of MK3.
In my opinion the PS1 Version is better. The sound is 20%-25% better. I do not understand what PS1 is loading? The game play and graphic is around 5%-7% better. In my opinion a good job for an old 16bit machine.
Lol Look like Motaro's son took his place for the MD game and MD backgrounds looks like a comic book
Shao Kahn also looks shrunk here as well. They are practically the same size as all the other fighters lol.
austin willcut the fact they could even fit a 20MB arcade game into 4MB cart is astounding in itself what do you expect.
Genesis conversion is the best of the 3!
16bits vs 32bits.
MD Genesis definite 16 bit port. My fave genesis MK. "Outstanding" Sculpture Soft.
Super nes is better than Genesis
The bass and drums are more cooler on Sega. Sega wins!
MAYBE, but it loses in every other aspect, bar loading times. Sega couldn't come close to arcade quality sound/music if its life depended on it! And Sony succeeded with replicating that in spades.
This is a 16bit port vs 32bits port. What you spect?. You should compare this versus the Saturn version.
@TheTourist, except there was no regular version of MK 3 for the Saturn, but there is UMK3, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison. Though UMK 3 for the Saturn was built off the engine of the PS1 MK 3 port, you can tell by the menus and everything being similar, plus the sprite size.
Megadrive/Genesis version had more frames than psx! it looks more fluid!!!
William Villavicencio Carvajal more frames? You must be blind
No it does not but it ain't bad either. Much better frames than the shitty Probe ports of MK 1 and 2.
More animation frames on a 16 bit console, compared to a 32 bit console? Lay off the crack pipe my man, that is totally untrue.
