- Check out this impressive CGI 3D Animated Short based on the WARMACHINE tabletop miniatures game published by Privateer Press. Produced, written & directed by WARMACHINE creator, Matthew D. Wilson, the five-minute CG animation was made with a skeleton crew of only two animators over the course of about 10 months.
The story features two of WARMACHINE’s most popular characters: the heroic Captain Victoria Haley and the villainous Warwitch Deneghra. In the lore of the setting, Haley and Deneghra were twin sisters, separated as small children when the nightmarish Cryxians destroyed their village and abducted Deneghra so they could mold her into one of the powerful leaders of their armies.
Both Deneghra and Haley are voiced by Marisha Ray of Geek & Sundry’s Critical Role.
The animators, Gabriel Teixeira and Rafael Chies both worked from their homes in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while Wilson directed from his home in San Diego, California. Wilson and Teixeira had previously collaborated on video game production but this was the first time either of them had attempted a cinematic quality animated production.
The music is an original score by composer Deane Ogden.

This came up as a recommendation to watch. Loved it. I know it's been 4 years, but would love to see a continuation of this, has lots of potential.

yes, animation was not great in places and cinematogrophy should have been better, pacing is a bit off, but all aside its a great first project.

Was this rendered in Mental Ray? Was the texture created through a combination of layered textures in Maya and the use of other applications? And how long approximately did it take to render everything? (Sorry for all of the questions but I am an aspiring animator and I just have to know lol).

According to the rules of sci-fi, that was either her long lost sister, her adopted sister that turned out to be the actual daughter of Chief Evil Dude, or a member of her faction that turned evil and decided to take over the world.
The robot was either painstakingly built from scrap metal or was a gift from her father/teacher. Either way, it is the metaphorical descendant of the little engine that could and has the glimmering of what might turn out to be a soul or free will.
this gives me some cool ideas for gaming terrain
can't shrug feeling that this is a RTS cutscene, and that I should know about the setting and characters more than I do by this point.

The Warmachine punch line...'Are you done?' from internet jargon to a series that coins in - cool eh. Plus Cygnar complements are great ones, unit with weight the other with speed and so forth. Nice and dandy, good ideas Another instance with these is Warhammer, the punch line is 'They shall know no fear" is prominent as example.

honestly it screams Warhammer, Warcraft, and WarHammer 40k freeblade.
but yes I totally be behind the game like this with mechs being pets to every class and whatnot.
Only one character class, Warcaster. Basically anybody good at casting spells and commanding a Warjack gets drafted into the military.
Got Victoria Haley as miniature and a handful of Jacks and a large formation of Trenchers. on the other side I have a nice little Retribution of Scyrah army. It is one of my favorite Taletop games.
Well, there's Warmachine Tactics, but... eh
the production cost of this to be a feature length filmation would involve followup productions and nowadays even 10 episodes are enough to BURN OUT the BEST actors and direction crews, so they avoid things that could inspire new cult followings - people hunt those producers to make more more more - just imaging being done with an idea (GOT) and people constantly whinging for more more more?

Although the lip synching and movements needs some work. The lips are pretty stiff and the movement feels a little sluggish.

Very visually interesting. The physics of soft materials (skin, water, fabric, hair) was a little lacking but overall decent.
Love the post apocalyptic, magic steampunk thing going on.
Camera angle and such were well done. Could have been a little better but not bad at all.
