- Feels so good to finally post this! Unending thanks to all the friends who worked to help make this happen, and all of the folks over on the patreon!
A lot changed over the course of making this episode (you can probably feel it), and while I'm really excited about this episode, I'm even more excited to keep everything moving for the next bit; the big goal is to be able to finish these things a bit faster than every 3 years :P
Thanks so much for watching- I hope you enjoy it.
If you DID enjoy it and want to chip in a bit financially for future episodes, I've documented a ton of the process (and shared a bunch of assets) over on my Patreon. Mostly VFX/blender tutorials and such, but also more general breakdowns, too, and I'd of course love to see you there.

"Blender is not Industry Standard"
Ian Hubert: Hold my Default Cube.
Imo it's about mastery. And Ian's on a level of his own.
Not being an "Industry Standard" doesn't mean it's lower quality or lacking features, it means it's not a part of workflow that industry is commonly using. This working pipeline was formed before Blender became this big. And this will not change until Blender will be obviously better than something in this pipeline. Even being on the same level is not enough to justify the changes.
To be fair. It's not. Not being industry standard doesn't mean it can't do incredible good looking stuff.. It only means the industry is not using it at large. The industry being, cinema or games. Which they are not. Big special effect companies are and probably will stick to Maya for most big budget movies. Games are using a lot more 3D Max and Maya than anything else.. and Zbrush for sculpting. It will be industry standard the day ILM makes Star Wars and Marvel in Blender.
And neither is a Koningsegg (probably didn’t spelling that right) - but compared to a standard car, well... I know which one I’d rather drive. Just sayin’. 😉

This has just over 4M views after one year. There's a video with a giant jelly going through a crusher with over 150M. Life isn't fair and this desreves more eyeballs. Simply mind blowing work.
There is a difference, the crusher video will be forgotten in 10 minutes but this one will be remembered for a long time.
the best thing to do imo is keep supporting it with re-watches, and share it as much as possible. a strong core audience can help.
This is different. We might picture ourselves in that crusher for a macabre moment, but this is like waking up in a less trashy Heavy Metal world. Heavy metal, the cartoon film?
Talk about lived in. Production value is best when you forget about such metrics all together. I could go there. I feel like I've BEEN there. Atmospheric.

With the fans he has - the patreons which I am one of - he now has the $$ and therefore the freedom to do it exactly how he sees it without ANY bias from the corporate heads. This is the BEST time now - don't let greedy hands taint this. I know from experience how that can truly ruin whatever vision you might have had. Plus Ian likes having his hands ON this project - once they lure you in you lose that immediacy of creation. Big guns are good for one thing - distribution and possibly marketing. That's it.
