Impressive lighting effects and virtual camera work !
@@ianc4901 Thank you very much! One little tip for fully CG cameras is to have the pivot point roughly 40 centimetres behind the default location of a camera pivot point, which is typically at the lens. This mimics the natural way that a human would hold the camera by always having a little parallax in every camera pan and tilt.
It was AMAZING, The animation was great the smoke detail and the cloud detail was on another level this was an awesome awesome movie.

I definitely love this. I have soft spot for steampunk and in this case it is not a typical one - no rainy/foggy city full of smoke and machinery but beautiful landscape and flying pirate ship. I really appreciate the visual processing - metal surfaces, smoke, effects but also the characters - no talking needed, as just facial expressions, gestures and sounds are enough. And there is certainly nothing easy to make a metal robot with no real face - a "warrior" to act and look also friendly and understanding. Many thanks also for the happy end - at one time it seemed to me that the happy ending was by many authors to be "out" because it is only good for fairy tales for kids... Luckily not all the people agree with it and I am glad I could enjoy this great short story.

Holy cow, that was a whole movie in 7 minutes! Great job. Kept my interest the whole time, had a satisfying ending and all without any dialog.

Maybe it’s my ability to anthropomorphize anything, but it seem to me that the sense of urgency, anxiety, and other very human qualities were transposed through the somatic gesturing and overall movements of the robot. What a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for taking the time to deliver this to us. Bravo!
Your ability to anthropomorphise doesn't need to be that good when the robots are humanoid and even have facial features... I don't disagree but our main character(or characters if when they split they act and think seperately which is an interesting concept) is very human looking even when in 2 parts
Forrest Gump doesn't have Anything on you geniuses! Just love the steeampunkishness and the grapplers. Nice touch and the storyline is A-Ok.. now back to the grindstone because we want more

Whenever I watch a Dust short, I imagine that it's a glimpse onto another world in our universe & each video is someplace new.
Yeah, they have that feeling when I watch them too. It's like you can let your mind free like when your a kid.
Incredible short story! Amazing action with a lot of heart and expressiveness in the design and body language of the robot(s). The visuals were stunning as well. The idea of the robot shooting _past_ the girl in freefall to grapple itself was so cool; never quite sen anything like that before.

@@Nezui Absolutely! Was very unique as well as provided the physical path for the cyan-eyed girl to pass along that healing touch. Also forgot to say that the pirate ship itself was gorgeous as well.
It's a nice basic story ( a rescue ) that has a conclusion, so many shorts don't these days and the little details make it extra special, worth watching again, love the visuals.

Loved the artwork, specially the metalic reflexes of copper, tin, etc. quite life-like. The steampunk-esc design was great as well. Excelent animated short!

This was a very fine viewing experience, I was v. impressed with the graphics, the fight choreography, the artistic imagination, and with the amount of emotion and heart that was expressed by the characters (without speaking a single word). I say that the entire crew should be proud of what they've created!
I started reading Heinlein,Asimov,Ray Bradbury , and couple I have forgotten (😪 ), when I was 11 years old- I am 67 now. I tended to steer clear of animation sci-fi stuff. THIS masterpiece of animation has seen me give the first " Like" for sci-fi animation. Thank you all for this outstanding short film!

I've seen and forgot about this short a hundred times. Each time it still catches me off guard and gets me hyped.. this could be a movie, series, or a video game.. I'm am down for all of it..
if they did, at the rate they produced this one, we would have an hour and a half movie in ~85 years.
It's really inspiring to see people put so much effort into something they love. You feel the passion in every second of this.

That opening shot was just about the loveliest thing I have seen in SF.
Beautiful landscape, the giant structures ifar below, then the flying pirate ship puts us straight in a whimsical but epic steampunk world.

Who ever did the sound, music score for this should have been hired to do that for the last Dune movie. It was God awefull. Good job my man
I was totally invested in the characters, plot, ending--something that oftentimes does not happen(for me) in feature length movies. Outstanding work!
This is one of the best Dust sci fi shorts I have seen. I hope the director and the crew is working on another short and or maybe a sequel.

The attention to detail and making the mechanical parts interact seamlessly with one another is very impressive. The environment outside also felt very real. Great job all round.
Pixar eat your heart out, that was the single greatest 3D animated short I've ever seen.
Such beautifully rich and detailed animation. So much to see and so little time to see it. Completely swept up by a film with no dialogue. A picture, or in this case a short with no dialogue, is worth more than a thousand words.
What did I just see? The fine details and expressions of all characters, interesting storyline, perfect matching sounds/music. This was spectacular!
I love the “words not needed” vibe. The action did a lot of work. Great job!
Outstanding SciFi fare. Definitely a perfect fix for my science fiction habit, which has been starving as of late. Eye-candy graphics with a purpose. A story was swirling around in my head at first, but I happily succumbed to pure visual magic. Gonna save this for multiple rewatch.
A little known fact about my film is that the title is actually an anagram for 'eye candy' ;)
I'm not gonna lie to you. When I saw that ship, my immediate reaction was along the lines of: Here we go again. Another filmmaker tries the 18th-century pirate ship can fly trope. Such films (read: Three Musketeers 2011) turn me off. However, that feeling was gone in seconds. This is amazing. The detail. The action. One of the most visually satisfying stories I've seen on Dust. And the relationship between the android and the prisoner didn't hurt.
This should be a full movie... Amazing animation, great work 👏👏👌♥️
Since humanity has lost the power of dreaming such things, we needs masterpieces like this to keep our fantasy alive

So....the existence of this piece of art alone clearly disproves your premise. Maybe look around and realize that there are equally amazing and thrilling pieces of art in other genres as well. Your loss of faith in humanity is not new, it's quite derivative, and at this point in history, very boring. So, stop showing your lack of input, intelligence, and knowledge, and spend more time with your fellow humans. Or simply do a CZcams search for "cool scifi cgi indy stuff".

I agree humanity lost that ability. I get bored with modern superhero movies, Disney flixes, action, and Star Wars. Most of the remakes are woke anyways. Because of Will Smith complaining about Wild Wild West, we've lost the steampunk genre.
The color palettes!! Stunning! I'm not really a steampunk person, but this whole film was immensely satisfying!!
I'm such a sucker for steampunk aesthetics and I really fell in love the design of Grunt. So much character and such a devoted family member acting as Nessa's surrogate father/mother figure. I suppose that was part of the design concept, especially when it's shown that Grunt is actually two units merged into one with their own unique complementary purpose. And letting the visuals tell the story was an interesting storytelling choice that paid off as by the end you'll care about the strong bond between Nessa and Grunt.

Great action - lots of Dutch angles - characterization, beautiful colours, especially the sunset.

GREAT story, and the animation is off the chain! Thank you for this GORGEOUS animated short! The amount of detail work that went into the making of this has got to be incredible!
I look at these gorgeous and uplifting visuals as a former Star Trek fan, and wonder why SecretHideOut with all their millions couldn’t have given us CGI that’s clear to see and not tinged with blue and hidden in darkness? This is what high-end CGI looks like, bravo.
This is extremely well-animated and the fight choreography is excellent. My single criticism is a lack of context for why Corliss has kidnapped Nessa. Seems there's quite a tale there and it feels incomplete without understanding Corliss' motives beyond "Yar! I'm an evil pirate!"

It's obvious to me that Cyan is a battery of special power, power that when harnessed made the Pirate hard to content with. And, I might add, was enough for her to risk losing her ship, her weapons, and ultimately, her life.

Okay, THAT was very cool! This and Wes Ball's "RUIN" are the two very best scifi/fantasy shorts I've ever seen. Well-crafted and well-written, particularly how, in the midst of all the incredible action, so many questions about the situation and the characters motivations are raised. A really superior short! I'm looking forward to a full-length feature based on this.

Impressive! Beautiful art design, amazing lighting effects on all that shiny metal. The choreography was just a bit too chaotic -- I had some trouble keeping track of where everyone was during the fight. I agree with that other commenter about the opening shots -- you could sell posters of that ship in flight against the sunset.
Love this short film: the pirate captain is wicked cool, and the robot is very likeable. Good story-clearly told. I can re-watch this many times.
One of the best imagined and crafted movies I have ever seen on Dust! What a show.
I can't help but wonder if this was inspired in part by Final Fantasy, a few very familiar design elements like the airship and the gorgeous landscape. That last shot of the sky was utterly breathtaking!! A true masterpiece! 1000 thumbs up 👍
