The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

Could you imagine if he played today with the soft big men that populate the NBA? Plus, think of Wilt with today's training methods, equipment, etc. I honestly think he would average more ppg, less rpg, more apg, and much less bpg and spg (although he would still lead the league in rpg, bpg, and spg) while playing a lot less mpg (especially if he played on a team with plenty of good to great 3-point shooters). For those of you who say he average the same amount of rpg, bpg, and spg, I'm just trying to be realistic with his averages if he played today!

When you think about it whether someone wins an MVP or not in a particular season doesn't actually change how they played, it just showed how they were perceived. Whether they win it or not they had the exact same performance and the MVP is not in their control. Same applies to every single thing that applies to legacy except objectives e.g: scoring title, championship. DPOY, MVP. ect don't actually show how good a player played and rather how they were perceived, so why should they decide a player's legacy? #72 On Karl Malone's Sunday chokes, that didn't actually begin just in Game 1 of the 1997 Finals. The season before, Utah lost Game 7 of the West Finals vs the Seattle Supersonics, and Malone only made 6 of 11 FT's, including missing two crucial free throws with less than 10 seconds left.
And yes, the game was on a Sunday. The Seattle home crowd was razzing him all game, and on TV, I saw one fan from the stands holding up a sign saying "The Mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays."
I think Pippen must have remembered that when he gave that quote a year later. He actually approached Malone when he was taking his free throws and whispered it to his ear. And an obviously rattled Malone (who had just won MVP of the 1996-97 regular season) missed both. And Jordan made the buzzer beater, showing who was the real MVP of the season.

He probably could have been in the GOAT conversation with a ring or two. I remember how great he was for a little while. Now Bill Russell may have been the man in game 7s but the other team was never even ABLE to take MJ to seven games in the Finals. Think about that. Russell also played on an absolutely stacked super team where they had an all time great at practically every position.

22 years later, in his BIGGEST 3-point season, Reggie Miller finally passed that "hits per game" mark.

People acuse me of being a casual fan of this game until I retort to points made at 52:00.
No casual fan knows about the Greatest rebounder pound for pound ever. That was Elgin Baylor.
Elgin Baylor actually averaged more rebounds per game than Dennis Rodman, but he was 2 inches SHORTER than Rodman.
Elgin was a 6-5 small forward in the 60's and 70's for the Lakers.
1961 Elgin will scare you. 35 PPG and 20 Rebounds per game at 6-5 and 220! That's nuts! How he didn't win MVP I'll never know.

Being a Wilt freak-fan , you never disappoint! I learned some new things , thanks to you , Much appreciated & keep up the amazing work!
BTW, i did a little investigating & if the never changed the rule about Wilt leaping to dunk the ball for a free throw & he made them all, he wooda ended up with 43,281 points, vs KAJ's 38,387.
And , if Wilt could only do that until his knee surgery , it would have been - 1,648 points , ending up with a diff of 4894/ after surgery , STILL 3,246 more points than anyone else.
Who knew math could be fun?? lol. I havent worked out if KAJ started doing that though either , lol. ( I wonder why that is) .

Yo Jonny, one thing I've never gotten in why people say that Magic Johnson is the goat point guard, and why he's never in the conversation of "true point guards". Is he not one? And why not? It feels like everyone talks around his play. It's always taken for granted that he was so good. What did he do special that makes him the goat point guard besides win a lot and be the leader is a dynasty?

    • @jonnyarnett
      @jonnyarnett  Před 2 lety +10

Good question. I think its more of compliment for Magic than anything else tbh. For myself personally, its simply because Magic is too good of a scorer. I think when most people say "True Point Guard", they're thinking of a guy who's almost entirely a giver. Magic could take over with his scoring though, like when he dropped 42 in the 80 Finals. A True Point Guard like Stockton for example, could never dream of that.
Of the top 10 players with the highest APG average in NBA history, Magic has the 2nd highest scoring average among those players, behind only Oscar Robertson. So yeah, someone could call Magic a True PG, and I wouldn't tell them they're wrong, but for me, he's too much of a dual threat for that label.

If we all watched wilt drop 100 against New York on live TV everyone would be calling wilt the goat, but bc that all happened in a period of lost records, it kind of diminishes him. When your grandpa says that wilt was the goat, remember that he was there watching those games and you weren't. In 30 years we will be ranting on about Giannis, the same way they do abt those guys. Kobe has more misses *6 TIMES* for a season, and 3 MORE as second (total of *14* appearances in the Top 20 for misses) vs the ENTIRE LEAGUE.
Yes, Wilt managed to lead the league 4 times for misses - but he was also shooting THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE IN THE LEAGUE for 3 of those 4 years and 2'nd the other.
It wasn't all the "high volume".
For a more direct comparison, Larry Bird has an almost IDENTICAL scoring per season average (24.3 vs 25, less than 3/4ths of a point), yet never showed up in the Top *20* misses EVER.
NOT ONE TIME - even *after* his double ankle surgery and his back issues.
Read that again - almost IDENTICAL scoring, but nowhere NEAR as many misses to get there.
Yes, Kobe's bricks ARE in fact a valid issue with his game - and the next person that calls Kobe a "great shooter" should actually COMPARE HIM to the great shooters of all time - then wash their ignorant or lying mouths out with soap.
I am NOT just talking "longevity accumulation" here, I'm talking PER SEASON issues.
