South Devon Sea Fishing at Brixham in Torbay.

- Sea Fishing at Brixham in South Devon. I needed a break and so it was time for a Brixham Holiday. The plan was to make a Mackerel Fishing video on Brixham Breakwater, a Wrasse Fishing video over at Battery Gardens and I also wanted to sample some of the magical Berry Head Sea Fishing that's on offer! Well, the weather was horrendous for the majority of the week and there were limited fishing opportunities. Storm Babet put pay to any prolonged sessions but it was still nice to get away. When it comes to UK Shore Fishing, this place is one of my favourites, it can be like an aquarium at times as multiple species can be caught throughout the year. I did what I could, when I could and I just about managed to scrape a video together.

Such a shame to have spent a week of your holidays at Brixham with the weather having such an effect on the fishing. Glad though you caught a bit of a variety while there. Oh well, beats a week at work and I'm sure you found some other things to do while there. I could not agree with you more about the feeling of having to pack up on the last day of a holiday only to head back to the daily grind. There is nothing worse. Thank you David. Yes I was gutted to be honest, I'd planned in my head how I was going to fish and where I was going to fish but it was impossible to stick to the plan ha! As you say though, it was still nice to get away, a week without looking at a laptop screen is always a bonus! Yes definitely, the last day of the holiday feeling reminds me of the Sunday night before work feeling... horrible! Bad timing or what Neil ha! As you say, that's how it goes and I guess there's not much we can do about it. Was good to get away for a week, the break was very much needed and it was nice to get a few fish despite the bad weather. Cheers as always mate, enjoy the weekend 👍👍
Was there about 3 weeks ago, on a species hunt. Quite a few squid about and the bluefin tuna were chasing the gars about 40 yds off the breakwater and only 150 yds or so off the beach. Incredible sight, never thought I’d see one in my life time!!
I bet that was an awesome sight Wayne! The Bluefin Tuna do seem to be making a bit of a comeback, quite a few down St Davids way apparently and along the South coast. Hope you had an enjoyable species hunt down in Brixham! Hopefully better weather when I next visit. Cheers as always, take care 👍👍

I've been having a little break from CZcams, I just needed some time away from the camera as I wasn't enjoying it...takes over your life at times. I'll be back though, hopefully not too long now, will get the tide book out and get some dates in the diary. I have been fishing a couple of times during the past month or so, the sunsets have been impressive, some of the best I've seen. Love brixham. Saw a tuna at Berryhead a few weeks ago when fishing there. Had some nice ballon wrasse and mackerel. Enjoyed the video, lovely shots

Storm Bebet really stirred things up but fair play to you, you stuck it out & gave us another great watch....as you've said before, it ain't about the catching, (although it's nice when you do), it's about the recharging & the 'escape' from the everyday monotony...

I had a plan in my head and I was hoping to do all of my filming within the first couple of days but that didn't happen! Not a great video as it's a bit of a mishmash but I guess it's better than nothing. Yes definitely, it was just nice to have a break, I always enjoy spending some time time down in Brixham, one of my favourite places. Usually get loads of fish down there on the float but it was hard work last week. If you like float fishing, I did a video down there last year (Fish Town) and there's some good float action in that one, towards the end of the video, a nice variety of species. Autumn is certainly here now, hopefully some decent fishing to come. Hope all is good with you and the livestock, enjoy the weekend! 👍👍

I was in Devon last week, (near Slapton) and whilst driving on the road towards Torcross, I was amazed by the amount of shingle and large pebbles (some bigger than a clenched fist) deposited on the road from the storm, the night before. The Easterly wind came straight onto the beach!
Shame about the weather, but it's still a lovely place to spend a week away from home.
Impressive wasn't it David, that part of the coastline took a battering. The easterly wind was powerful, I had a job to stand up whilst filming the water coming over the top of the breakwater. Yes that's right, it was nice to have a week off work, always enjoy spending some time down in Brixham, one of my favourite places. Hope all is good with you, cheers for watching 👍👍

Gareth, terrific persistent effort! Really tough conditions all round by the look of things, battling storms, coloured waters and conditions. You must have taken pretty much your entire tackle collection, looking at the methods you employed to catch all those species! The storm footage is impressive! A few days later now and we are in the middle of another one! 😳 Hope you managed to get a decent break in amongst the chaotic weather, look after yourself 😊

When I was there last august I was in that exact swim mate , did a whole day there , two rods out resting in that little railing , and a float on mackerel strips , had a great day on the float had mackerel, nice pollock , small bass 👍

Hi Gareth, love video as usual. Nice to see the old mackerel, they left your shores down here in September unusually early for us normally hang about until November. Big storm again this week. My son had a seal on last week, picked up his bait, it smashed him. 😂 Well all the best from south west Wales. 👍

Thank you Scott. Yes it was definitely a case of bad timing ha, that's the worst weather I've experienced down there. I had all of my weight on the camera tripod when the water came over the top, thankfully it did the trick and it remained in one piece! It was nice to get away though, a week off work was very much needed and hopefully I'll be back down there soon, there surely won't be another storm next time! Its a shame your week didn`t go to plan Gareth, but that`s fishing for you. Storm Barbet had pretty dire effects on fishing country wide and it certainly put a damper on it for me here in North Yorkshire. But there`s always tomorrow!

The fishing is always slow after a heavy storm, the fish pinned down to the sea bed getting smashed by waves will seek deeper water for sanctuary. Amazes me the power in mother nature, especially with the sea. I caught a 10lb bass in the Usk last weekend Gar, under the sdr bridge bud.
Well done on the Bass Dave, that's a lovely fish in fairness, bet you were buzzing. I caught my best Bass from the Usk in November 1998, right next to the Transporter Bridge, it was 12lbs exactly, I doubt I will ever repeat that. Yes shame about the weather in Brixham, the fishing there is usually superb, there's always next time, hopefully be back down there before the end of the year. Cheers for watching 👍👍
@@riversidewithme thanks, and ye I still am buzzing over it. Big bass are out in the channel, schoolies close in the shallows. A huge conger was caught on the same day on monkey island, thing was that big the lad couldn't pull it up the mud, between 15 and 20 pound all day long. Then this low pressure came along and spoilt everything. Talk about a Co fused state of weather to, I was I the bank the other day and I could feel the heat rising and dropping from the sun and it was really hot at one point, half hour later, stone cold.
Nice, a few fish around at the moment then, November is my favourite fishing month. Yes the weather is all over the shop at the moment, no period of consistency, let's hope for calmer times 👍
@@riversidewithme there's a hell of a lot of junk and trees floating around in the river now to, and all seems to gather under the sdr bridge. And it seems to be getting worse every time there's a big tide. No way its natural and its not nice to see..

well at least you tried,i didnt bother trying,was there on the thursday after the storm and got soaked walking up the high street.i see a few anglers out at other marks in torquay and only one had caught (bass of 3lb) may take the kayak down next time and see what i can find.all the best

Mate. If you wanna catch pollock on float or Conger at night on the breakwater fish in the wooden pier stations at the end on night time high tides. That’s the pace to go on the inside. You prolly know that but night fishing there is good
Thanks bud, I'll give that a go next time. I remember fishing at that spot a few years ago and I had some lovely Wrasse on float-fished frozen black lugworm, great day that was. Yes it seems to have been quieter of late, the locals were saying the same. I always like November/December down there, seems to fish much better then. The bad weather didn't help matters, water colour was way off. Hope you have a successful trip when you venture back down there. Thanks David 👍👍

Hey Gareth nice to see you out again I haven’t been on CZcams much recently but nice to come back and see your video at the top, very good video and despite the conditions you still caught but nice to have the time away and be able to fish regardless. Me and my mate are heading down in 2 weeks actually so it’s nice to see a recent video on brixham, just wondering as we usually fish the upper channel is there anything that we should try differently or different tackle or what fish to kind of expect to be about? Obviously up here we have to use the 6 or 7 oz grippers but I’m guessing we wouldn’t need anything quite that strong. Last thing is it worth trying those pouting and whiting as a live bait or just bait or is it a try and see situation? Any advice or help would be amazing cheers
Thank you Finley. Yes the weather made it a little challenging and it was difficult at times to get footage. Not one of my better videos but I guess it's better than no video at all. Hopefully conditions will be much more favourable when you go down in a couple of weeks. I'd take your beachcasters but no grippers required where I was as there's not much of a rip (although I still use a 6oz gripper) Make sure you cast at least 40/50 yards as there's some rough ground in front of you but then it's all clean. No reason why you can't use the small Pouting and Whiting as bait, there's some nice Bull Huss and Conger to be had and they will take those. I usually just fish with Mackerel, Squid and ragworm/frozen black lug. Definitely worth taking a lighter spinning rod too...can do some lure fishing and some float fishing, you can catch all sorts...Garfish, Mackerel, Pollock, Wrasse, Bass etc, it's great fun. You can also do some LRF fishing for the micro species close in with some of those Isome rubber ragworms, it's a fish a chuck at times... Goby, Blenny, Wrasse etc. If you haven't seen my first Brixham video, you may want to watch it as it's better than this one, you may find it more useful (I was catching jumbo Whiting in that one). There's a fishing shop in the harbour, Brixham Bait and Tackle...Matt and Graham are very friendly and they stock a good variety of bait. If you want ragworm, just give the shop a call so that you can book it in advance. Hope that helps, cheers 👍👍

Brilliant watch.. as i tie new rigs.. i just had a soggy blank today down barry docks.. never seen it so quiet even the plauge of crabs stood me up.. ive never before been able to fish a lobworm on bottom there and it not been stolen by a crab or goby.. i fished for hours in mixed rain and wind.. never seen it so dead.. but hey thays fishing.. trying out mullet lures.. and practising my lrf fishing with floats and ultra light running ledgers.. on my hunt for rockling and wrassie down barry.. i know their there.. ive been studying every capture report.. and taken in advice.. only a matter of time before i strike lucky..like getting my 1st plaice down mumbles resently on my flattie quest now 3/5 complete.. ❤ love you vids.. its a relax and good honest watch.. can't ever complain when you can learn something from those awkward days fishing 😊

Unlucky on your Barry Docks blank but as you say, that's fishing and there's always next time. LRF fishing is really popular down Brixham, the Isome worms tend to be a popular choice and at times it's a fish a cast, really close in. Yes I'm sure you'll soon get into the Wrasse and Rockling at Barry, they are definitely there...I reckon Nell's point would be a good Wrasse spot as it's weedy and rocky, I might try for one down there. @@riversidewithme aye nells point and inside jacksons bay marina within the inside of the whitelight on float 2ft down with rag and prawn thats what i was told.. by a guy who caught wrasse and pollock from both ends of jacksons on the float during the high.. eather off nells or inner whitelight.. good mullet in the marina too ive seen them feeding in the tides slow edge as it enters the whitelight.. loads of them woth fins out the water.. caught my lobster in there too along with schoolie bass on rag on float..
