- A bit of South Wales Sea Fishing at one of my favourite Bristol Channel Fishing marks. Having not been out in a few weeks, the withdrawal symptoms were starting to kick in and I just had to wet a line. There's something quite special about the mouth of the River Usk where it joins the Severn Estuary and being next to this piece of water is a great form of mental health therapy. A slow start to the session but then the fish turned on and it became quite busy. Bass, Thornback Ray, Dover Sole, Silver Eel, Flounder, Mullet etc. can all be caught from this mark at this time of the year. Used to be a great winter Cod Fishing spot back in the day.

Absolutely! Fishing is a great drug, usually clears the mind a little.
@@riversidewithme best therapy out there. It was even on the news this morning about it helping mental health in people. And never a truer word was spoken. My whole life has been about fishing though, I would fish every day if I could afford the bait. I'm unemployed and can't go back to my old job, which does depress me a bit, but I can blank it out by going shore fishing. Blanking days are a normal days fishing, but when you get that good day of fishing, that's my reset, which makes the blank days so much easier.

I use to catch eels in the river taff in cardiff take them home dad would jelly them ,that was back in 1968 did not know there was to be a problem in the future ,the river was teeming with eels and billions of glass elvers that licensed netters would harvest on certain tides ,good old days with my dad fishing ,magic !!
Yes great days weren't they Mark, the Eels were extremely common. Even when I was a kid back in the 80's, you'd catch loads of them but sadly there are now in severe decline...greed and money are to blame as per usual, it's sad. Sounds like you had some great times with your Dad, those memories will last forever. Cheers as always 👍

This particular mark is an old favourite of mine, I've been fishing it for over 35 years and I have some great memories, had some great fish too...it's just a nice place to be. I have fished all of the top marks in South Wales but nowadays I like going back to my roots and doing the things I love the most. Another great video. 👍 I love watching you posts as it shows the true nature of fishing hours sometimes days without a bite and all of a sudden the fish come on the feed. I've travelled from the North of Ireland right down to the south cost normally about 6-7 hour drive only to blank for 3 straight days but kept at it and have had some of the best sessions I've ever had. Plus I like the fact that you don't see it as a job and more of a hobby it come across better your videos are more relaxed and more enjoyable to watch. I was considering starting up a channel myself but thought I'd rather just stick to enjoying my fishing relaxing enjoying the scenery and wildlife. Because that's why I started in the first place. So thank you for putting in the time to make these vids they give me something to watch when I don't have the time to get out myself.

Yes I know you mean, it can be dead for days on end and then all of a sudden it can turn on, just like magic...I guess that's fishing ha! Indeed, I've accepted that this will never be my job, too much pressure involved, the CZcams algorithm is ruthless. If you're thinking of setting up a channel for a bit of fun, then of course crack on but yes, I think you have made the right decision by not doing it...it can take over your life and make you ill. Like I said, I'm much more relaxed about it now and I can enjoy my fishing a lot more. Hope all is good with you, cheers as always 👍👍

I hope some day I bump into you on St brides or goldcliff marks just to shake your hand. I lost my dad about 5 years ago too. He lives on through me carrying on what we did together and out fishing. Hahaha, that cheapy old boat rod is certainly your lucky mascot, it's saved your bacon a few times 😂 Shame about the lost conger, it looked as though it was a decent fish, judging by the bend in the rod.

Can I park close?
Unfortunately not, this mark requires a 25 minute walk. It's tricky to get to but once there the fishing is comfortable. So you park outside of the Wetlands Nature Reserve on the grass verge (right hand side of the road), walk into the Wetlands carpark (the exit) and follow the footpath immediately to your right and keep going until you come to the line of hedging/reeds that border the marshland (overlooking the sea) Find a gap (just to the right of the wooden telegraph pole that is on the marshland), walk down the bank and through the reeds out onto the marshland and keep going right and you will see the concrete area. It can be a little boggy and so wellies would be a good option. I wouldn't advise going there alone if your first time there, simply because of the tricky route. Also, I wouldn't fish it on spring tides either as the rip can be very strong, mid size tides are the ones. Enjoy your time off 👍
