I love fishing on the breakwater when I’m down there on holiday it’s so much fun.
Great spot isn't it. Don't forget to subscribe. Plenty more videos to come down there
Great session Dan, some beautiful winter fish caught there. Thanks for sharing your technique for catching them as well.
Thanks Scott. You're welcome. Low and slow thos time of year
Good to see you out using these lures and catching fish. Thanks for the 'heads up' on Temu lures - it's easy to dismiss cheap tackle.
I have to say they don't fish half as well as Xesta Afterburners or Major Craft JigParas but they do catch for sure.
Another great session - utterly love Brixham and hoping to spend even more time there next year. Temu lures are great, bought a fair few hard & soft ones for perch and pike angling so now I get to stock up on small metals too 😂
Brixham is nice isn't it! One of my favourite spots.
Just goes to show that you do not need expensive tackle to catch a fish.
Nice upload Dan
👍
EDIT: Loving the backing tunes too!
Cheers Karl. Enjoyable day that.
Great video as always Dan and it looked like a fun session
Cheers Steve. Was very enjoyable. I live sitting on the end of that Breakwater with my back to the world.
Great video on a stunningly beautiful winters day. Although those fish seeking Exocet missiles - the seals - bring back too many bad memories! Lovely to see someone showing the merits of the cheaper gear, £8+ for a Major Craft or Savage Gear jig to lose on your 2nd cast is just a nightmare. Not sure anyone could convince me of the merits of the more expensive metal jigs over the cheaper ones.
Not gunna lie. They don't fish anywhere near as well as the more expensive Major Craft ones. But they still do the job. I love the jigpara lures as the way they flutter back down is deadly. But for mackerel anything will catch
Had a afternoon session on the mackerel last Sunday on the HTO tictacs 2.99 at drago just having fun fishing as always stunning filming
Cheers dave. Can't beat fishing for fun
excellent video mate, well done on the mackerel, makes me want to go try my bunch a cheap lures out.
Cheers Bob. Well worth a session. Plenty around and a nice add on for your league tally
Great session mate, well done.
Thanks. Was a session where I just wanted to catch a load of fish. Very enjoyable
@@LRFandHRF That's every session for me mate 😁😁
Great video, really shows effectiveness of that jigging technique. Well done. What breaking strain braid do you use for that ?
Thank you. Glad you liked it. Plenty more to come. I only use 6lb braid for the 7g lures and lighter set ups.
Very new to LRF. Love watching your videos.
Can see you use what looks like a looped drop-shot. Is there any reason why not just an ordinary drop-shot?
Thanks Rhys. I think the free movement on the loop helps the hook go into the mouth better. And the small loop is just enough for the hook to be lip hooked rather than deep hooked. It's each to their own though. I'm happy using it and it works for me.
@@LRFandHRF thanks for that. Makes perfect sense when you think about it. 👍
Hi, recently got into lrf. Would you have any advice for mackeral (winter) over rougher ground?
I'm plymstock side of plymouth but also visit mutton cove for marks that you well know already, sandy clean bottoms aren't around much that I can find.
Elphinstone and Millbay are nice and clear on the bottom. More likely to get Bass than Mackerel in Plymouth though. Torbay seems to hold Mackerel all year round so worth a visit there for them
How tightly do you set the drag when LRF fishing?
Not very tight. Just enough. Only use 6lb braid
@@LRFandHRF I see, by "not very tight" does that mean it's easy for you to pull line out with your hand or do you have to put in some amount of effort?
I've always tightened my drag all the way since I usually catch small fish and I'm always worried about them diving into cover and snagging my line. Is that not as much of as issue as I'm thinking it is? Like are most fish targeted by LRF fishing too weak to peel off significant amounts of line?
For me it's more about protecting the rod. My rods would snap before 6lb line so I'll happily let a fish take line. Most of the LRF Species are fine with a loose drag. Things like big Pollock,Scad and mackerel will all fight in open water. Big ballans will snag you in a second so only target those with heavier gear.
@@LRFandHRF Alright, so I don't really have to worry about smaller wrasses like corkwings or cuckoos snagging me?
Seems so quiet in winter, not a soul around
I much prefer Devon and Cornwall in the winter when its nice and quiet
To be honest most lures will catch mackerel
Yup. That's why I thought I'd point it out. Tricky this time of year though if you fish them wrong. Next target with them will be Bass and Gurnard.
