- On this episode, my friend Gus and I fly the Gulfstream G-IV from my hometown of San Jose, California to Van Nuys, California. This video features a little more of the nitty-gritty, including the start up procedures and flows, checklist sequences, and everything in between. We chat briefly with Gus at cruise about his experience flying the G4, including the places he’s traveled to and some of the abnormalities he’s experienced. It’s amazing how this bird is 30 years old and still doin it’s thing. Just goes to show how advanced it was for its time when it was built. You can def tell it’s getting up there by the cockpit displays and instrumentation being a bit dated but nonetheless it still does just about everything a modern biz class jet of its kind can do which is really cool. I’m guessing the over haul it will need sooner than later will mean she will get scrapped and sold off for parts but very cool jet!

Did you or any of the boys ever go to the 94th Aero squadron when it was still open? That’s the restaurant on the east side of 16L. what a shame that restaurant closed, that was always a great place to go on Sunday, getting a table by those big picture windows so you can watch all the airplanes landing and taking off. The end of an era I guess. Great video, they always seem to end too soon. catch you on the next one.

In the US, for airplanes, it's 16 years old for a student pilot certificate, 17 for private, 18 for commercial and 23 for Air Transport Pilot.

I had the honor of working for Gulfstream for a while at the Brunswick facility. The GIV is my favorite of all. It's just so beautiful! I see your avionics are CRTs? Collins? What year is it? They were just coming out with the G550 when I was there. Got to see Greg Norman when he came to look at his during the build... Great company, great airplanes.
