Homemade groat soup with smoked meat from beef broth - Mapino cooks

  • Recipe for beef soup with smoked meat and grits
    Ingredients for 2 servings
    • 1 liter of beef broth
    • 200g of smoked pork leg
    • 200g of barley groats
    • 2 balls of New Spice
    • 1 bay leaf
    • crushed pepper
    • a pinch of salt (NOTE amount according to the saltiness of the broth)
    Method
    1. Pour the beef stock into the pot and bring to a gentle boil.
    2. Add the smoked pork leg, allspice and bay leaf.
    3. Cook on a low flame for approx. 60 minutes.
    4. Before the soup is cooked, prepare the barley groats. Pour cold water into a larger pot, add a little salt and rinsed hailstones. Keep in mind that hailstones will expand up to 3 times during cooking. Cook over low heat until soft. The cooking time depends on the size of the groats and can take up to an hour.
    5. Remove the New spices and bay leaves from the soup and serve.
    6. Scoop the cooked grits into a plate, add chopped pieces of smoked meat and cover with soup.
    Enjoy your meal.
