    Anything over like 3,000 lbs you should use a weight distribution hitch with sway control especially on a travel trailer.

    I towed an empty 29’ toy hauler, that definitely was trying it, but yeah great towing mid size truck, my TACO back in the day would constantly seek gears, the Gladiator is way better in that dept

  • @audreykatzenberger1580

    Thank you.. I hate too see trail haul like gravity wagons in the fall. You solved it.

    Man I’m totally worried about this. I’ve got the Rubicon Gladiator. I’ve got 37 inch tires with a 3.5 inch lift and I upgraded gears to 5:13. And now I’m even upgrading my drive shafts for torque issues.
    Should I be concerned??

    Zero sway problems!!!!! I think someone just wants to sell you a bunch of extras. I just got back from camping trip and traveled over 300 miles with zero sway issues. I own a Dweller 15 that is 100% stock except for Monro heavy-duty shock absorbers that cost less than $200. I don't use a weight distribution system only the factory installed the McHitch system. I tow with a Toyota Tundra. I traveled on bouncy leavy highways, windy mountain highways and windy Interstate 5 where I went as fast as 72 mph while overtaking. No issues! I do tow with water in my tanks, yes this slightly reduces MPG but is still cheaper than spending $1,000 on an unnecessary weight distribution set up or some other modification like removing the spare tires.

      They have said in the past that upgrading the shocks is another fix for the sway, and towing with water will help. As a dweller user, it is also nice for the setup without the tires in the back, makes it faster and easier.

    • @ROAOffRoad
      @ROAOffRoad  Před rokem

      Hey Robin, upgrading the shocks is not 100% stock! Lol 😆 You have to upgrade something otherwise it will sway terribly. We are not trying to sell a bunch of upgrades. We are trying to make the units safer to tow. Happy you decided to upgrade it and put water to make sure it tows better.

      @@all-terraindain4954 I guess it's the headline on the CZcams that bothers me most "It's Terrifying" is just not true. Putting the wheels down at set up does take about two minutes.

      @@RobinW.B. I can promise that it is pretty terrifying when you tow it without the shocks or some type of modifications. We don’t feel like it is safe to tow stock.

    Do you think I could pull a two horse trailer with my jeep gladiator? Or do I need to trade it in for a different truck?

      I'd at least get the ranger or Colorado with the turbo 4. That v6 in the gladiator falls on its face towing .

      Just depends on the weight. a gladiator w/ tow package can tow I believe 7,500 pounds.

      @AirDownForWhat no problem. I will be picking up a 23 gx 460 luxury with off road package . My trailer is 3,800 gwr and I am worried about sway. To get to 6 500 towing capacity you technically need to run a sway bar hitch which is not great with an articulating coupler. I will let you know how my trailer pulls and give you an honest answer on how heavy I would go with out sway hitch.

  • @Flips420
    @Flips420 Před 4 měsíci

    The suspension on the Dweller and the Dweller itself is the problem. Not the Gladiator towing capacity/ability or the Ford. The sway is a Camper issue. That thing looks completely unstable and unsafe to tow. Plus that thing is sitting way low on the right side. Sorry.

  • @bartman1857
    @bartman1857 Před rokem

    First off I feel like the Dweller 15 is reasonably priced even with the spare wheel and shock mods.
    But to really test the sway why would you not throw 3 people in the jeep with gear and fill up the camper to say 6,000 lbs then test to see if the gladiator can pull the Dweller w/o sway. Also if you add the weight of the mods on your gladiator the towing capacity likely drops below 7k pounds. It also likely pushes the tounge weight to 750 lbs. What happened to only going to 60% of gcwr?

    • @ROAOffRoad
      @ROAOffRoad  Před rokem

      We don’t say only do 60% of GCWR? Not sure where you got that info? Not from us?

    • @bartman1857
      @bartman1857 Před rokem +1

      @ROAOffRoad so sorry dudes. You mentioned in a video that it's best to have a tow vehicle with twice the towing capacity of the trailer fully loaded. I did not mean to type 60 % of gcwr. With the d15 and gladiator loaded and near 700 lbs of tounge weight you are likely close to gcwr and or cargo capacity of the gladiator

  • @rb2712
    @rb2712 Před rokem

    If you have a properly balanced trailer it shouldn't make any difference what you pull it with as long as the toe vehicle has the power.
