Hi
This car came to me wit a problem on the rear air suspension...
After some diagnosis, and test, trace it down to a faulty suspension airbag... but was more to it... much more...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

I had the c4 grand Picasso and loved how the pneumatic rear suspension felt but had to replace the bags twice which at the time was very expensive, after replacing the air bags for the second time I decided to convert to a normal coil spring suspension and got Citroen to code the car as no pneumatic system ... good call swapping the mosfet 👍👍👍
Thanks!

Great video, good fix.
The current sensing is done inside the Wabco module. They use those 2 big copper blocks near the mosFET's in between those big fat pcb traces. They are shunt resistors (often 'Dale' brand). Each shunt resistor has 2 big high current connections and there should always be 2 much smaller pcb traces connected to it (sense lines).
You can spot both sense lines at 29:02 on the bottom shunt resistor coming from underneath the shunt resistor. Usually the sense lines lead to a instrumentation amplifier/operational amplifier/comparator (i.e. a small IC). The general idea of a setup like this is to convert a big current into a few milli-volts that can ultimately be 'read' by the main proccessor.
Thanks for the upload and have a great 2020 !

Hello Sir-s.
Replying here because I see mr.riesmoos has a lot of knowledge to.
I am having similar problem. The whole unit costs 720€plus tax.
In your video you mentioned that the control unit can cost as much as the relays. Would you maybe care to share where a person can buy this whole unit. Or, what are the relays to buy if one wants to replace them?
Than you to both of you.
And great and helpful video.

Hola buenas yo te. Go el mismo problema con ese coche y resulta q el mecánico no tiene idea de reparar la centralita la verdad estoy arto del coche por el tema de la suspensión, pero la verdad admiro el talento q tiene para solucionar este tío de problemas
Great thanks. I have a bunch of these problems on my c4 I think it is connected to that blue wire on the fuses on top of the battery. Where does that go to can I run an alternate I have checked the loom as far as I can. Keep up the good work jim
i think the input resistor works only as a diode or sort of a fuse like in a dc input from a laptop and the first one you can bridge them in the most cases
Hi where is the compressor relay located citroen c4 picasso 2008, love your videos very helpful thanks
I had problems with the pneumatic rear air suspension on mine. I came to the conclusion that it was the compressor (the thick end of £1,000 from the dealer. I wasn't going to take a chance on a used or a recon part) so I decided to do a coil spring conversion which cost me less than £200 in parts. I disabled the suspension ECU and the auto height correction in Diagbox and removed fuse F10 (15A) in the glovebox which is for the auto height correction to stop any error messages from appearing on the display. It has been fine ever since but it will generate a couple of fault codes.
A lot of people does that...

Where is the relay combresor . located?
Hello, congratulations! the video and the content were done in a very professional way.
I have a question, my Picasso is having a strange behavior ... some time is inflating and deflating at the same time the pneumatic system ... resulting in a drop-down .. sometimes for days, everything runs ok ... I wonder if a complete calibration of the pneumatic suspension + a clean-up of the height sensor will solve somehow the problem?
As a software solution, I use DIAGBOX9.68.
Any particular things to keep in mind ... when I will start the procedure?
Any advice is highly appreciated.
Excellent video and very instructive. Friend, can you tell me the name of the relay model, because I have the same problem as you
The compressor relay fault was on voltage. I have had the same problem. It's a case of new battery and new compressor.
I throughly love your videos what ever the car/fault

Hi ,I put some weight in back of car , hydrolic suspension went up but now it won’t go down . What’s the problem with this ?
Both airbags are solid full of air. Plugged in diagnosis computer and states fault codes C1196

Hello, I have a cetarwen c4 picaso. Sometimes the servise subsension light flashes fatly, sometimes intermittently. The car was checked in several workshops and they did not find a malfunction. Some said the compressor should be changed. Some said the height sensors should be changed. Some said the electronic mind. Only at the top there is a code 1196, but it is not permanent. Is this a permanent malfunction caused by an industrial error in all cars of this model?
Good repair, these cars are very quirky, the least thing can throw up a fault.
They need a good battery as a failing battery can throw up intermittent and random faults.
The button below the height adjuster in the rear switches off the air suspension for maintenance and lights up with a red indicator.
Citroen had a recall for the airbags for the C4 and replaced them for free but I think the campaign will be closed now.

Nice job mate. You certainly know your way round these nightmares. My 57reg GPC4 feels hard on the rear but the ride is good - the compressor works for about 4 or 5 seconds on schedule and it does what it should, but on roads with a poor surface the back end feels hard. What do you think it might be? It had new bags last year so I think they are ok. Cheers.
They are known for being hard on the rear, makes them a good tow car though.
Hello I dont speak english, sorry, but I have a question for you. my picasso has got one problem, diagbox says C1621 Relay compressor and I dude. Where is the relay in compressor or pneumatic unit control? The people says in compressor but I dude. If I put a new compressor the problem is solved, after is necessary diagbox? Or is not necessary? Mi compressor has got 162.800 km.
Thank you very much.

Good job as allways :) but if I vere You, I would suggest client to change it to simple springs, there are many kits on sale. It costs about 70€ for both sides, then just disable it from from BSI. Then problem SOLVED FOREVER. And if you compare ride quality and comfort, there are NO difference.

autel Elite or artipad
Hi @LM Auto Repairs, I have the same problem, wouldn't you by any chance have the ID of the mosfet to order them?. Thanks and congratulations for your video, very explanatory!!!
Hi
Never took that information at the time.
Sorry...
Can you not read on yours?
I'm having similar issues with my Citroen c4 picasso however after watching you find your leak I cannot relate to this issue as last night my car raised completely and stayed raised until this morning when I went for a drive and then the suspension fault come on again and it wouldn't raise. If I had a leak them surely the car would would've lowered over night?
I would say so...
You might have a different problem...
That's the beauty of some how follow the video, as you can find something that leads you to a different outcome...

Did the ECU require a new mosfet after all or did swapping the 2 reworking fix the problem? Dry joint somewhere possibly?
No... it did not, at least I was not asked to look at it again...🤞

Hello
My cars throwing up c1621 code for compressor relay... At first the car was completely down airbags flat.. i tested the bags with compressed air and saw leaks in the bags so i have replaced the bags now for new ones but every time i try to pressurise the system or try and fill lh spring or rh spring, i get error c1621. Is the relay faulty and is it located in the ecu? If i buy new ecu will it work? Please reply.. desperate for help!!!!
I can't really say it will work without checking it...

Hi. Greatest video a found so far...
How is this citroen going today? Does error p1621 reapeared after some time?
I have bought same car and sometimes facing same error. It usually come in the morning, but after driving a bit and shuting engine down, compressor kicks in. And error disappear for rest of the day.
I have a question. Do you remember exacr number of mosfet? I would like to resolder that one, which is responsible for motor.
Thanks
Hi
It never came back... so...I guess still good...
I can't remember those details... sorry...

@@LMAutoRepairs well. i have read in one forum, that this error may be solved, by rechecking fuel pump. change silica gel and cleaning/oiling air pump once every few years...
anyway. it would be great to know relay part number so i could order it before starting repairs.
Hi
Very interesting work you done there.
I've changed myself the air spring as well but somehow I've messed-up the height sensor values and now error shows on screen. Car runs fine suspension its self levelling itself no problem but annoying error on the screen it's so annoying. Do you know what values may me going there on the height levelling ?

The calibration needs to be done on a flat bed...
There is usually certain procedures that need to be followed in order to calibrate everything correctly...
There is some documentation out there...

low batteries cause all kinds of errors, one car i had would put up ABS fault on the display when i braked in cold weather as all the 4 brake lights at the back suddenly coming on would cause a quick voltage drop and scare the ecu.....
Absolutely!
I have many videos on that...
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Hi, where is the compressor relay located, love your videos very helpful thanks
Inside the module... as shown..
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Hi thanks for your answer you say inside the module is that where the compressor is or ECU on floor behind front seats thanks again
The wheels are jacked up, so it’s on its highest level already cutting out with the sensor
Great video, love the detail you go into . The only thing I couldn’t see in the video is how the airbags disconnect from the air line? Do you need a special tool to disconnect the air line?
Hi
No, it is just a push fit type connector... really easy...

When you remove the pipe, is there a collar you need to pull out or anything? I am under the car right now and can not get the line out of the existing air bag
So, there is a little collar which releases the hose and on mine they had perished. So I had to carefully cut round the valve with a junior hacksaw and then pull it out the casing and then use pliers to remove the retaining clip. After that it was simple.
Hi, I have a problem with the Citroen C4 Picasso - it displays the error U1224 but I do not have a diagnostic computer, only the OBD II application, the car does not rise - the compressor does not turn on - what could this be the reason
It can be many things...
You need to get it properly scanned, and possibly look at some live data to understand what might be wrong...
Anything I would suggest, would be pure guess work...

Hi friend, your video helps me a lot on my daily work.god bless you
I'm from East Africa would like to know how i can get ECU pin out, wiring diagram software for Japanese cars.or just tell me the software name then will try to look.thanks
Hi
Unless you go for the OEM tools there is really no Japanese cars software as a such...
There is tools that work better or have better coverage on Asian cars... just research...
For diagrams, there is plenty of choices... you can again look for the OEM stuff, or go for things like Autodata, HGS, etc...
Hope that helps.

My compressor sometimes kicks in, sometimes don't. I have compressor relay error code. Where can i find this relay, my friend? Please, help me. Hug from Portugal.
As per the video... the relay on this model refers to the module itself... as the relay is built in...
The module, if I recall correctly, is underneath the carpet on the rear, behind the front seat passenger side... driver side for you in Portugal...
But, I am not sure if there is different versions where the relay and electronics are different, you need to investigate yours...
