  • BSI Problems and reset procedure.
    Don't buy a new BSI (Body Systems Interface or Body Control Unit) for your Citroen or Peugeot until you have read this and tried a factory reset first. Very often the reset will solve a multitude of problems especially the ones that suddenly happened after you fitted a new battery to your car or the ones that just 'appeared' form nowhere!
    - Economy mode active?
    - Wipers stopped working?
    - Central locking gone mad?
    - Windows stopped working?
    - Indicators and lights doing their own thing?
    All of the above can be caused by a nutty BSI and often a reset is all it needs so try this....
    Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off (stereo, lights, wiper, etc)
    Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.
    Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.
    Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors).
    Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
    Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.
    Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.
    Remove key open & close door test central locking system.
    Start the engine and complete the system's check.
    Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

      Chevy you did not need BSI reset, your key fob just got unpaired from the car. The manual mentions this may happen and explains how to pair it. The pair procedure was part of this video - turn the ignition on and hold the lock button on your fob for 10s, which is why it fixed your issue.

    My 2012 508 SW doesn't have a factory reset option in the interface, so is this gonna do it? The GPS and radio started malfunctioning for a few years now and it's almost unusable now, so I am unsure if this will help, but I will try. The systems work sometimes, but not consistently, so it has to be some software issue, and a tiny cleanup should do the trick if the problem's trivial.

The Comment section is where the content consumers can leave their thoughts about the video not bombard the content creator with your car problems when you can't be bothered googling them yourself. Very useful. Used to do this to cure my C5. However, I was told to put the side lights on before reconnecting the battery as they would then absorb any voltage spikes which may be caused if the battery terminal doesn't make a clean contact.

    • @YS_Production
      @YS_Production Před 2 lety +4

      I can see how unclean contact of a battery terminal may lead to voltage dips, but how could it casue voltage spikes?

    • @AmbroseB1900
      @AmbroseB1900 Před 2 lety +3

      @@YS_Production as the battery terminal is replaced, the circuits pick up the voltage. If the terminal makes a series of contacts as it slides down the post, the contact will 'make and break' giving dips and spikes which sometimes can be heard as crackles or even seen as sparks. Even if the spikes are less than battery voltage, the processor may be damaged. I was told too that if there is any induction in the cars circuitry, then a falling voltage would produce a back emf which could be larger than battery voltage. I am just going on advice and explanation I was given myself. It always worked for me though!

Peugeot want £700 to fix it so I'm going to try a reset of the BSI and see if it fixes the drain. 2 years ago on my C4 mk2, when the RAC connected jump leads and removed the red tag on the battery positive to make sure the leads were connected... This action of connecting jump leads and removing the positive caused the fault to sound the alarm everytime the doors were locked with the fob, I had to lock with the secret key to stop it from happening. I tried some of this, door closed, window down switch off disconnect battery. reconnect battery and then press lock button, there is no key ignition only a fob start button, but when I did that the alarm immediately sounded. This method did not work on the new C4. I had Citroen do it they said they uploaded a new BSI software to fix it.
    To clarify, removing the battery positive with the engine off, did not cause this fault. The fault only occurred when the RAC had charging cables attached but also at the same time disconnected the battery. I think this is what caused the fault.

    • @WhatTube
      @WhatTube  Před 4 lety +2

      It's always better to remove the negative terminal first.
      If the battery needs to be charged remove completely the battery and charge it.
      This method is working on the C4 as well but in your case the RAC mechanic damaged some components that's why it didn't worked for you.

      Excellent video. Please continue to post more videos.
      I have a question regarding disconnection of the battery for post 2016 Peugeot 308.
      According to the manual, it says before disconnecting the battery, the doors and windows should be closed and wait 2 minutes before disconnecting the battery.
      I guess this is to put the BSI to sleep. However, I have seen many instructions including this video to leave the windows open so that the side lights can be turned on. So I am not sure if the newer models BSI are detecting the state of windows open or closed position. Any thoughts? Thanks.
      P.S. The peugeot 308 manual for 2016 model can be found online.

    • @WhatTube
      @WhatTube  Před 6 lety +2

      L Emech thanks,
      You need to open only the drivers window, if you don't leave it open before disconnecting the battery you can't reset the BSI and you can have various electric problems.
      Even the older BSI can detect the windows but if you wait few minutes the BSI enter in "sleep mode" then you can disconnect the battery.
      I hope that is helpful.
      If you have more questions let me know.
      Thanks.

    • @lemech
      @lemech Před 6 lety

      Thank you for your kind response. I guess what I am not clear with is:
      1. What is the difference with closing the doors and windows and after connecting the battery, wait 3 minutes then open the door to reset the BSI versus, leave the windows open and turn on the lights to reset BSI. I thought as long as the door is open after connecting battery, the BSI will reset. Or should a higher current draw be needed, then open the door followed by turning on side lights.
      2. Is it necessary to always do a BSI reset after disconnecting the old battery and replacing it with a new battery? Or, the BSI reset is carried out only on a need to basis like there are problems with BSI.
      Thanks again.

    • @WhatTube
      @WhatTube  Před 6 lety +5

      L Emech
      1. If you close the doors and windows then reconnect the battery and wait 3 minutes, then you open the door, in this case you are waking up the BSI by multiple functions (doors lock/unlock, door light, interior light, dashboard operation, ...)
      If you open the windows and after reconnecting the battery you switch on the light, you are turning on the BSI with only one function, so th BSI can't be "confused" by multiple operations.
      2. Is better to do it every time the battery is changed but is not essential.

    Shall I use your reset approach? Or it is something more serious?
    Also notice that time to time the radio reset itself !
    Thx

    Hi. Wipers on a 407 sometimes do a swipe when i unlock or open a car door. I'm also noticing that sometimes all 4 doors do not lock when i press the button on my car key. Just the boot and the fuel cap locks only. Could this be a sign of a faulty bsi or a reset will do it? Thanks

    • @WhatTube
      @WhatTube  Před 5 lety

      Hi, if all the issue started at the same time then it should be the BSI, most of the time a reset will fix it.
      If this doesn't fix the issue try to open the bonnet, wait at least 3 minutes, remove the battery negative terminal then remove all the fuses an relay and check for corrosion on the terminals.

    Thanks for the video. Do you know if this method will work at a Peugeot 206 cc 2.0 GTI (2003)? I have a beep alarm of roof when driving but roof opening and closing is working fine.

      @@WhatTube thank you very much. Do you think this reset will act to reset roof system? The beep I have is for a false alarm of roof (it's working fine) but constant beeping when I drive more than 5 mph.

    • @WhatTube
      @WhatTube  Před 4 lety +2

      I think the roof is not closed properly.
      Try the BSI reset first, then open completely the roof, wait 1 minute then close it completely and see if is fixed.
      If is still the same, there is one relay in the boot near the pump for folding the roof, press manually to close it.
      If is still the same you need the Lexia software to do it.

      Hi, if it's an automatic car then it can be the "sport" or "snow" mode, there should be a button to activate or deactivate this function.
