Toyota just announced an all-new #EV #threerow that will be enormous. Build in Indiana, here's why it is significant compared to another vehicle in Toyota's lineup made in Kentucky.

Toyota won't be serious until they stop using the BZXX style naming
The five fastest selling cars in the USA are Toyotas. And in the rest of the world they sold more cars than anybody else. Americans just don't know what Toyota does around the world. The American market is basically a side show for them. They are very serious. BUT, yes. One should not designate models BZ anything. That's just Japanese Culture kicking in.
Insane automakers think there are enough people who can afford to pay for this massive investment.
Buying a vehicle isn’t an investment
They are saturating the market with models. If the public follows, your future will no longer be Toyota vs Ford/GM but rather Toyota Model vs Toyota model.
@@billricheter5678 Fair.
Building mfactories is, which was his point. Their sales are allowing them to invest in more manufacturing.
@@billricheter5678 Not unless you're buying super cars. Then they are primarily investments.
Toyota should focus on providing us with a PHEV option on every model
agreed. toyota has a long way to go how to EV
This! Should spend more money in increasing supply of PHEV Rav4s and giving us a PHEV Camry. I would assume a Camry Prime with 60 miles ev range would sell like hotcakes given most people would be able to travel to 90% of the places they go to using just electricity.
Toyota plug-in hybrids are too expensive. Cost of engine, electric motor, and a large battery equal a ton of money.
@mikecopros79 PHEV is a waste of time, what is the point of driving around a dead battery. There have been many studies on Plug in Hybrids and that they are a poor compromise between ICE and BEV.
@@tonespeaks its a trade off over EV to ease range anxiety and lack of charging infrastructure. And over ICE to improve efficiency for
The new Tacoma isn't worth the 15k price increase in the TRD PRO, that's for sure. And in the case for 4Runner you'll see those trailhunter trims going close to 70k for a SUV with basic interior.
I don’t understand why Toyota is leaving the demand for existing vehicles (Prius Primes) unsatisfied. “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” ?????
What demand? People literally can't afford a new car.
@@gabrieliacoboni6951You ought to see the waiting lists for NON CARB states in the US. If the production matched the pent up demand, one would be amazed at how many more vehicles could be sold.
@@gabrieliacoboni6951 Yet Toyota had a second to all-time record sales last year. Oh I don’t know where you’re coming from
I agree, they sell everyone they make, so why don't they make more? Maybe its not a very profitable car for them?
@@vancity2349Toyota's total debt did go up from 2023 world record $200 billion to new world record $240 billion in 2024. Is Toyota buying its own automobiles to inflate sales figures? Because Chinese sales are crashing, so i was surprised to hear the sales record.
Toyota is on a weird trajectory. Consumers aren't buying the new Tacoma and Tundra because both are way overpriced. Now giant EVs? Probably for $65K+? Recipe for failure.
I think they might be banking on us pulling out of the recession or people becoming apathetic to it. Happens every time and makes a great chance to raise profits per car. Just look how the gas crisis was this major issue back in the 70s when gas was $0.551 a gallon or about $3.69 today. Yet today the gas price is $3.79 and people don't consider it a big deal.
People just stop complaining at some point and give up and they relish that.
Their pricing is going to drive consumers to EVs. At tundra prices, evs make a lot of sense.
Toyota needs to start building a compact pickup again, this is getting ridiculous, we need a Maverick competitor not another giant SUV.
THANK YOU‼️ Toyota does 💩 that makes no sense. They were the kings of small trucks @one time. The PreRunner is a step in the direction but it is priced too high. YES, they need to crush FORD’s MAVERICK & keep the price stable instead of all over the place. Maverick started out very affordable then Ford got GREEDY. Very predictable.
So another oversized suv that nobody wants or can even afford?
Have you not seen the sales of current three rows??? Ain’t nobody crying…they’re calling Brinks trucks every couple hours at some of these dealers, with $60k three rows flying off the lot. It’s stupid crazy!
Uhh… oversized SUVs sell quite well.
waitin list is pretty long for virtually all Toyota SUVs.
If Toyota told it's fans to drink the Kool aid they would do it willingly.
they need to create the Toyota stout already. they need a maverick competitor
Definitely happy if Toyota ends use of bZ naming and uses traditional names
I have more faith in magic 8 ball predictions than what car manufacturers say about the future….
Agreed, plug-in hybrids will be the best option for the next decade or two.
I live in Africa. We don't have electricity.... just regular hybrids for us please.
@@ilollipop100 that’s the beauty of Toyotas method, offering the proper vehicle powertrains to accommodate the locations best use scenario.
@@ilollipop100 I agree with you. Regular hybrids are absolutely fine for me. Plug-in hybrids and BEVs are not for me. I have no means of plugging them in. Plus, regular hybrids are cheaper to own and use.
Most owners of PHEVs don’t even charge their batteries.

The United States government has no idea how to appeal to customers who want ICE vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Synthetic gasoline can easily be used before normal gasoline runs out.
I am sure toyota did their research before making this decision.
Absolutely hilarious how y’all find a way to blame *gm,* Tesla, and the U.S. government for absolutely everything. And the upvotes. Lol. It’s astounding. 🤯
TWO MANY SUVs TOYOTA HAS 8 SUVs LEXUS 8 SUVs TO MANY
Should be a crime that there isn’t a plug-in Sienna yet..
If it moves production to Japan you probably would get it. All the plug in models are built in Japan except for the TX.
The challenge with hybrid and especially plug in hybrids is where you put the battery. For a minivan, a low flat load floor is important so it can't be in the back without hurting functionality. So toyota put the battery underneath the front two seats.
The batteries for plug in hybrids are way larger and unless batteries get significantly smaller, Toyota would have to do a complete and major redesign of the sienna if it's going in the back.
Chrysler got around this by giving up their stow and go for the second row and put the battery there instead for the Pacifica.
Toyota has lots its mind. They think all american households bring in 250k/year to afford these insanely priced trucks.
250k+
Previous Toyota Hi Ace cab forward design which didn't have a hood but had very good turning circle wasn't available in the U.S. because of fear it's not going to pass crash test regs, but 6th gen has a hood and still not available in the U.S. If you want a good comfortable/easier access 3 row vehicle a van would be a better choice than an SUV.
The one thing that isnt mentioned is that the jobs are coming to the battery plant that's being built in Indiana.
I had an EV and don’t want another 😮 unless 500 mi range ( means useable 300 mi ) in under 3 min charging cause long lines and long waits in your future EVs
Which EV did you own? Did you know the range before you bought it? When do ice engine ever get the MPG promised or the range?

I think Toyota should read these CZcams comments and do the opposite. To be honest, that’s generally a good rule for business.
every Toyota needs the 300 hp plug in hybrid drivetrain.
EV's can sit and spin. Id rather talk about chalk on the board.
So…chalk is very exciting.😃
say goodbye to toyota reliability
TIL that 43% of the Toyotas sold in India are rebadged Suzukis. They're available where I live as the Starliet, Vitz and Glanza. Suzuki also rebadges RAV4 hybrid as the Across and the Corolla as the Swayce... amongst other things.
Toyota and Suzuki are working close too. Toyota has the entire Japanese auto industry with them: Mazda, Subaru, Daihatsu, Suzuki, and Isuzu. Only Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Honda are not affiliated with Toyota.
What "Glanza".!!! Did they even check what glans means in English. Hahaha. Lost in translation. After 25 years of global production stuff like that should not happen.
100% on 3 row plugin hybrid!
People crapping on EVs already, but if the pricing and range is good, people would buy them. Toyota would offer EVs on top of many other options they could choose from if people don’t want an EV.
There is a growing trend of 70K+ for 3 row EV's and its absolutely insane. Cant afford $1K a month for car leases and loans.
+1 on 3 row PHEV. Sienna prime is what we need, the seats don't fold anyway so why not just put more batteries + charging system on board.
"Grand Highlander Prime PLUS" 😂😆
I’m not sure if BEVs are the only way. Aren’t there any other source of power aside from ICE, HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV?
I’m sorry but you have the Halo 3 special edition helmet in the background. 😂 I have it too and that’s why I know I can trust your reviews. Great video, Kirk.
Would think with the success of the Ford Maverick that a compact hybrid pickup would be a priority.
@@abrahansoto7437 Tacoma starts at $40k
Hopefully they come out with a PHEV Tundra on the refresh. Then I might consider buying one.
I'm sure they will eventually. the eCVT in their current plugin hybrids aren't able to handle high torques that the higher output engines put out (hence why you see the 6, 8, 10 speed in Toyota's truck/suv higher output hybrid lineup)
I've had large vehicles for many years and IM VERY interested in a mini land cruiser. Probably won't hear much about it for a while unfortunately.
Kirk, do you know anything on the upcoming Lexus ES???
Nothing
There's some test mules running around Tokyo.
They should probably make a Sequoia XL, same general size but lengthen that damn trunk space significantly. And make it a plug in hybrid for solid efficiency over unnecessary power
A Sequoia XL should be a Suburban fighter. It should be available as both ICE powered and a hybrid. No plug-in hybrids, please. I can't use them.
Toyota needs to sell more Sequoias first before they can justify making a Sequoia XL
@chezzyperson3339 maybe they don't sell enough Sequoias because it needs to have a bigger trunk?
Hey kirk! I dont know exactly how credible this is but I had an uber driver who told me that he drove a executive of Lexus who told him that in 2 years toyota is will be releasing an ev that has 600 miles and full charge in 15 min
Don’t believe him😂. It’s all hype 😂
It will never happen.
Even if they make that, it won't work. The fastest chargers cannot put enough energy in the battery fast enough to achieve it.
15 mins? Nope.
2 years in the tech world is a long time especially when the whole world is striving to be first to steal the market, range and charging times are the 2 main complaints so to say it’s not possible in 2 years time would be naive. I personally don’t have that much of an issue with ev cars being regular traffic but don’t replace sports cars, muscle cars, supercars, or hyper cars with ev while not banning all previous petrol cars. If they can do that I have no complaints, however to think this would be the case would also be naive 🤣.
Toyota continuing to make overpriced, overvalued throwaway toasters. It's just endless monstrosities nobody wants or can afford.
Will the TZ/BZ5X produced in US be for the global market?
NA market
Nooooooooooo way. No other countries are that stupid.
EV’s, VHS, Landlines things that nobody uses anymore.
Hi there
Can you make a Video around Crown Sedan Here in North America and Crown Sedan RS advanced in Japan.
Toyota & it's suppliers currently have such a hard time finding & keeping employees. It seems a bit crazy to expand & compound the problem.
Word is in there area that tmmi will build a separate building south of existing east plant
The line that will be producing the EV in KY is a very low production line - less than 200 units per day...
They probably just moved production. Plug in hybrids are getting more expensive than BEV. How that you can get a Tesla Model Y for about $40k.
Forget EV’s. Concentrate on hybrid and phev
Grand Highlander Prime or bust! Lets get that 50mi of range.
The higher trimmed new 4runner and landcruisers are running up close to $100k OTD(dealer mark up)… this is unsustainable. The dealer model needs to be changed!
I've had Toyotas since the 80's - it saddens me that instead of addressing their recent QC issues, the horrible treatment by the dealers to long time customers (regional managers are no help) and the run away pricing ...
The focus is on this.
Don't know who the Toyota leadership is listening to... but the decades taken to build the Toyota reputation is being demolished.
It's unfortunate and sadly, unnecessary.
Not sure what the future holds, but recent metrics suggest Toyota is presently doing very, very well. The result of pragmatic decision making.
Toyota consists of many departments and divisions
Surely there's folks looking at QC, development and all (though the dealership stuff is out of Toyota's hands)
@@ytj22 No doubt if the measure is profits (they are a business after all...)
But what I referred to Is the Toyota way - make an affordable great product - while continuously improving the processes and by result, the products themselves
Always Appreciate The Customer - for their goodwill and trust in the company. So they, their friends and if done right...future members of their families will have fond memories and in turn, buy not just a car... but a Toyota because they can be trusted.
Profits only as a measure makes them like any other - short term profit and sabotage the future.
Ex: the Big 3 (well guess it's 2 and a half now).
@@user-lj5ri3gp5o It's not just profits though. Toyota brands rank high in JD Power VDS with Lexus being at the top. Maybe it won't always be like that, but people have been saying what you're saying for years and and Toyota seems to get stronger. Time will tell I guess.
I own a lot of Toyota stock and it’s done really well the last two years I love the profits bring them on!! For stockholders that’s a beautiful thing!!
I think Toyota may be more interested in experimenting and staying up to date with ev technology and manufacturing for now.
Was looking at kia ev9
The Land Cruiser SE and EPU truck will in all likelihood ride on some form of GA-L. Only a cpl factories in Japan have the tools for it. And considering the weak EV demand lately and Toyota’s recent track record of previewing ICEV/HEVs as “BEV concepts” we could definitely see an ICEV/HEV version of the Land Cruiser SE.
Chicken tax forbids epu to be imported into America.
The use of chassis that don't fit proper battery packs size/capacity is that Toyota is going to release solid state batteries in production of electric cars. More energy dense= more capacity smaller pack.
Solid state still a pipe dream
@@user-qc7dr3cd3qPlus ridiculously expensive and unnecessary
How is Toyota going to sell such inferior product? It's better to not do it at all.
Honda saw the importance of proper chassis, so they went with GM.
Toyota got to wake up. Even Doug demuro called BZ4X one of the worst cars of the year.
Hi Kirk r u not gonna do ev updates anymore?
Great insights!
I just want to see the new RAV4 redesign….. but dealers should be ashamed of the low inventory and markups. No better than a jewlrey store salesman on commission…😣
If the Highlander becomes EV only, does that spell the end of 3 row unibody ICE Toyota vehicles in Australia? or will we get the Grand Highlander instead?
No GHL for you. I'd assume all your models come from JP or China
The real question is why doesn't Kirk have a million subscribers?!?!?😁
Use that money to give us a Camry Prime that has 60 miles ev range! Those would sell like hotcakes for people who don’t want a full EV like a model 3 or people who want a typical car interior than just a big tablet.
PHEV is a waste of time, they charge too slow and don't go very far on battery. This means most are using gas to carry around a dead battery. Many studies have been done on PHEV and the results are they are not good. The numbers in the lab don't match what happens in the Real World.
If you are confused go on a holiday or switch to a different job greetings from southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 😮
Kirk, Next time you see him, ask Larry V if there is any chance they will build a 3 row Yaris Cross in Indiana? 😉😉
There’s already a small population of Americans who can afford $60k+ vehicles, now take into account of all the options for $60k+ SUVs and trucks out there.
All I know is the Toyota dealerships in So. Cal are still extremely busy....not so much the others.
The new Tacoma has a 500 dollar option called... White paint color. I kid you not. Toyota thinks people should now pay a premium for any color other than black.
1:6:90. Just ramp up the PHEVs if you got the battery capacity Toyota.
Unless they make the needed changes so that Northern (colder climates) there is a huge drop in eMPG's, and have charges on every corner of American, and make them high eMPG's per charge, and a charge takes less then 20 minutes (Hint, battery replacement centers) I think all this hype about EV's is going nowhere but hey, what in hell do I know. Oh, Central Maine Power Co., of Maine said they ca't keep up with the current growth of EV's in Maine, and said folks are in for a BIG awaking? And Maine doesn't have many EV's at all compare to many other sates?
Toyota with a 5d move - raised pricing of existing ICE to ridiculous levels so that they can slot the EV's right in with a couple k difference with crowds applauding and lining outside Toyota showrooms like sheep endlessly
Well that would be because Toyota is confused.
Considering production in IN, a BEV Sequoia makes sense but that does not look like a Body On Frame unless they consider the battery box strong enough. YT will explode and Scotty K. will require counseling. 🤷🏼♂️
Funny thing about that.. the original Sequoia was built in Indiana. 🫣
What is a BEV. That's short for my favorite beverage and I am offended. If it means "big EV" can we just say BIG EV?
maybe Toyota didn't get the memo letting them know that EV sales are deceased. they should ask Elon how his EV sales are doing.
All car sales, like most commodities, go up and down....
Toyota is going for the BIG 3’s THROAT‼️ Big SUV from Toyota is competitive to the SUBURBAN/ESCALADE/EXPEDITION for example. Not looking good for the home team unless they come out w/reliable hybrids sometime soon.
Hoping the new suv will have 1000 square feet.
I thought Toyota was killing the bZ naming or was that just hopeful thinking not to be tortured any longer with that? It probably would be a good thing to kill it because we will always associate it with wheels falling off and anemic charging. What kinda of strategy is it to have two 3 row EV’s regardless of how doors move? KIA and Hyundai will have dried up that untapped buyer segment unless they believe there are masses that will only buy a Toyota 6/7 seater. This story will be revised long after it’s dead. 🤷🏻 17:25
If you think new car prices are high now wait till all these Ev's age a little and people start switching back to hybrids and I.c.e again the used car market is already bonkers and it going to get worst!
It is interesting they aren't Interested in a Sienna prime. I would have thought that middle class people would be pretty hot under the collar for those.
