  • Two codes set the Check Engine Light (MIL) so the new owner of the truck wanted both related sensors changed out. That ended up costing him more money than necessary because only one sensor was at fault which changing the other sensor created more problems. Come along to see how this was corrected.

    2005 GMC 6.6 L 264,000 MILES ... great Truck. threw a P0046 code. $160 from O'reilly auto parts in san diego. very easy to install. just used a Snap-on one inch CROWS FOOT to remove and install part... no problem so easy, i owe it all to you for posting this video... i was going to take it to a Dealership right down the road and i said i will try to knock it out..., but we would love to hear more story's about your days in the Military, being a Master Helicopter Mechanic... like what was the hardest day, and what tools you used, and what you saw that you did not like and how you would do things better if in charge...

      Hey John. It's comments like this that encourage me to continue to make videos. (I haven't made one in three months). Yes, I spent 3 years as a cobra helicopter mechanic then applied for flight school .That took a year alone, then another year in school. At my first duty station after flight school (Ft. Campbell, Ky) I applied for maintenance test pilot course. That took me into being the main troubleshooter on the helicopter, which I loved. Of course flying was cool too. My first interest has always been in mechanics. Becoming a pilot was secondary, but it did pay better. I'm glad the video was able to help you. Thank you for your comment. I grew up in Ventura and have visited San Diego often.

      Which part did you install, the turbo sensor or vane position solenoid. The solenoid looks like the easiest one! I found the white wire and looks like it plugs in behind battery connection but haven' t got the courage yet to try it. Looks like the solenoid is just behind the turbo cover near firewall? Only single white wire! Hard to tell from video! His was cut off?

    Figures GM stops making the sensor, and won't let the aftermarket know the secret to keeping the truck happy. Par for the 21st Century course, unfortunately. Extortion instead of sales - that's the name of the game these days.

As you know, you get pulled in so many different directions it's hard to stay in the hanger. So, what I remember is the actuator was purchased from a Chevy dealer but they didn't stock the sensor because "they never fail". He was correct. I ended up getting a part I didn't need plus it was junk. I reinstalled the old sensor and installed the actuator and that fixed it. I hope I got that right. It's been a while.

    Is it ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY that the sensor has to be relearned? I haven't seen any other channel relearn the boost control sensor.

      I may be different depending on the year model truck but my research at the time indicated that the reprogramming was necessary. Since this video is 3 years old I can't remember if the truck ran okay or not before the reprograming was completed. Thanks for the commnet!

    After changing both or one of these sensors do you have to have someone "relearn " engine or just discounting the batteries will reset them.

      Mike is right. Eric and Doug both thought it was a new truck. No, the C8 will wait until GM has a chance to work out some bugs. I've been following what I could on it and the electrical system gave them hell and delayed the reveal. Plus I'm not 100% in love with the body style. Many dealers are giving the 2019 COrvettes huge discounts to sell them. A base model 2019 is $45,000!

  • @tileman17
    @tileman17 Před 4 lety

    ok heads up turbo position sensor the long one, the hardest thing about it is getting to the BLOT! whoever the GM guy was that made up that part of the engine is a fucking idiot. spent 3 hours trying to get it back into its hole I finely modified the bracket. put the bolt in with is a few threads in cut the bracket so that you can slip it over the bolt. what I mean by that is cut a channel and a little off the left fin leaving as much of the bolt hole as you can then it's just getting the right angle on the bolt which is still a huge pain but can be done

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  Před 4 lety +1

      It is a challenge for sure. I can't remember exactly how I got that bolt out but I do remember it was a major pain. Glad you got it figured out.

      @@wyattoneable I'm not an engineer but I do know DUMB by DESIGN. I can think of at least 3 ways to make this a 15 min job and all it would take is a different bracket set up or move the bolt placement
