I find the most awful thing the emperor ever said to her was that she could never compare to the previous empress, knowing very well all the evil things the previous empress did to ruyi. For him to compare an innocent sinless woman to an evil one was really low and cruel, then claiming he loves and prefers the evil empress more was just a way to twist the dagger that was already in ruyi's heart. The man is truly awful and disgusting for letting an evil woman get away with her crimes, then punishing an innocent woman who only ever wanted nothing but best for others.

I watched a historian explain this on another channel. He said that this part is so famously depicted in dramas and novels because something extremely serious and intense must have driven the empress to cut her hair. It was such a severe thing to do and was even recorded in history.
And the emperor erased her from history. Extreme hatred could be extreme love as well. We will never know what transpired between them in history. I've never really been so invested in historical figures but this story is so well-crafted that one can't help but to empathize with the many people in the palace and wonder about their real lives.

    • @Anakiwiify
      @Anakiwiify Před 3 lety +21

Yes, I am also curious about the details of the real incidents. However that is also the reason why we can make more imagination about the story.
But considering that the real empress had indeed cut her hair, I can imagine that it was the biggest crime which made her unforgivable to him.
Cutting hair in their culture at that time meant as mourning. So it signifies that to her he is already dead.
I can imagine that his alpha male ego just can't tolerate being abandoned by a "mere" woman whose life and death is up by him.
And added to it, he is a living person, an emperor, is considered dead by his own wife... in front of others it is more sound like she is cursing him to die soon.
So even if he still wants to protect her, it is unlikely possible.
There are enough people in court and the harem who would use that to completely crush not only Ruyi but also her clan, to kill of any single possibility of their clan to make a come back by sending another woman to the palace later on in the future.

No you r not,I do think alike.
Regardless if the little details in this drama may be untrue, but the haircut incident was atleast correct.
And there is no way that an empress would have done something absolutely unforgiven like that if the emperor hadn't finally done something intolerable to her.
No matter how much hearthache a woman had, it takes a huge courage to do such a thing in that era, when a crime towards an emperor not only could cost your head but also the head of your whole family.
Even if she and her family were not sentenced to death, their reputation and future would be very likely to be forever finished.
So, she was really a badass.
      She basically said to him:
"Do whateever you want, I'm done."
How humiliating was that for an emperor to be dumped by a woman, who didn't even have any backer.

When Ruyi mentioned the deceased consorts (it was my favorite part), I realized the fate of those two consorts are parallel to Ruyi's.
Consort Shu loved the emperor dearly without any motives, even when ZhenHuan tried to make her a spy, she never reported anything to Zhen Huan because she want to be on his side. But still, its not enough. He still betray her and hurt her. Thats why Ruyi was so shock when she kill herself, I bet she kept thinking "if Consort Shu who loved the emperor purely ended up like that, will I suffer the same fate eventually".
With Consort Chun the similarity begin when Emperor suspect her having an affair with Ling YunChe. Even though its not true, he kept suspecting her even until now. All only because of a rumor and misunderstanding. He killed Ling Yunche and humiliate her to no end, losing his trusted general and hurting his relationship with the empress. Just like how the emperor kept suspecting Consort Chun of killing Sulian and scheming against the former empress for her position only because of bead flower, even though it was already revealed it was Consort Jia who did it.
