    a) theyre too dear to begin with
    b) Thyre too complicated with sophisticated electronics, complex suspension systems etc (my friend has a Range Rover HSE which blew a headlight bulb..it caused damage to the BCM and also required recoding (main agent.) Final cost to replace the blown bulb?? £1500..who wants that?
    c) parts are too expensive
    d) as the cars are so complex and designed with built in obsolescence in mind, they are very difficult and therefore expansive to work on
    e) running costs are indredibly high
    f) they are poser vehicles subject to the whims of fashion and purchased by posers. Fashions change very quickly in order to sow the seeds of discontent. Fools play along, thus meaning an enormous drop in residual value as last years car is an embarrassment. these are the same people who trade in their phone every year and choose their postcode for no other reason than to fulgfill a deep seated need to impress and be validated
    g) they are unreliable
    These are just a few reasons why prestige and fashion vehicles are worthless and has been the case since the dawn of time with very few exceptions.

    I have a 2.7 diesel Range Rover Sport. Best car I have ever had. Brilliant off road, superb for towing, very comfortable, nice to drive, can sleep in the back, very reliable, no major faults, and does 25 mpg. I would have another any day. £2000 is an absolute steal. People will regret not buying these while they still can, when in a few years they will be forced to take out a massive £40,000 loan to buy a dreary electric car with a measly 200 mile range and a fire risk battery.

    • @reality9
      @reality9 Před 3 měsíci

      @Luckyjo21 So what if it is French? It has never given a hint of trouble in 120,000 miles. If you need to tow a trailer the RR Sport is a great option. I suggest you consider the interest payment on a £60,000 electric equivalent = at least £6,000 per year. You will be able to buy three entire RR Sports for simply the interest payment on the electric SUV. But hell, its your money. For someone on £20 per hour it will only take him 3,000 hours (about a year) of toil to pay for his electric car. I guess there is nothing wrong with people being forced to work for no useful outcome if it helps big business keep people in debt slavery and thus working harder than they would otherwise do. Gotta keep UK's productivity up somehow and the fear of the repo man is as good an incentive as any.

    It’s probably been said but PCP financing has grossly inflated prices of new cars. When you hear the likes of Matt Dawson at Carwow talk through the list of options on a reviewed vehicle it’s utterly eye watering. I recall an Audi A6 where the panoramic roof was around 2.5 k (part of a pack) so the buyer would be paying around £45 a month for just that option over a 3 year PCP deal, absolutely nuts.

    • @c11yan
      @c11yan Před 3 měsíci +2

      It hasn’t inflated it pcp has actually made the purchase price irrelevant- it’s about the monthly not the cost new. It has given a huge opportunity to buy a new range of cars which most people could never had afforded. You can get a three four year old M4 Comp for £8k down and £100 a week - all of a sudden the price is irrelevant.

    I just bought a 10 plate Jag xf Portfolio - I think it was about 45k new. I knew it had some electrical gremlins, I love that sort of challenge. Ok, there were a few more things wrong than I had expected but I am nearly done with it now. The car cost 1550, by the time spending is finished it will be about 2100. It needs a new door lock - 25 quid but several hours to fit, that sort of thing drops it's value massively as most people these days would not tackle such a job. The biggie was water damage to the rear bcm, Jag would have replaced and reprogrammed at well over 1200 plus the vat, it cost me about 8 inches of wire, a soldering iron and an hour of my time. I have mainly owned what I call ex-prestige cars ie ones that are too old or too knackered to be considered prestigious any more. I will continue doing so.

    Because the cost of money has been low for years compounded by finders willing to lend with v little equity in belief prices will either rise (bizarrely for a wasting asset) or not fall overly. We are reverting to normal where cars (not the collector stuff) are doing what they do and are depreciating, funding costs higher plus more equity reqd. Insurance costs higher too. Adds up to huge falls in asset prices which has much further to go. Sorry!

    General maintenance but cant grumble as its not been heavy on my pocket. I could afford to go out and buy something nice, but im not paying over the odds, so watching with interest to see how the markets going. Especially with the slightly premium cars.

The rest of the big Merc, BMW, Land Rover models are too expensive to begin with an are usually financed to the hilt, when the finance deal ends the people can't afford the balloon payment are throw it back in and get another.

    Prestige cars are great if you buy a really old one without all the modern gizmo bullshittery - like my 40 year old Rolls-Royce Spur that's still running like buttered silk - 140,000 odd miles and just about run in now.
    For that marque and Bentley the spares (genuine, OEM and aftermarket) are readily available.
    Simple to maintain (spanners and screwdrivers mainly and admittedly a heavy duty lift because it's a little under 3 tonnes) no modern computerised tricky stuff just fuses and relays, the oldest and cheapest car I've ever insured (inflation adjusted).
    Bought at auction with all the caveats (which i didn't follow properly but got away with it) and maintained by my local garage.
    But I guess the gods were smiling on me.
    Overall the cheapest car I've ever owned (my 20yo runabout costs me more to maintain) and 1/3rd to 1/6th the capital cost of a new showroom model which would be tied to exorbitant parts and service costs.
    Plus there's nothing on four wheels to beat following the winged lady down the road.

    A touch steep that 7 series limo BMW. When you caught the angle for the paint work on the nearside is was really poor. Probably need to do a full respray, however, at the price it went through it could be broken for more money. The tax on vehicles is killing the game. People now seek cheap motoring, cheap tax, insurance and mpg.

    I will be the Lamp that gets hammered.
    The reason why these cars are no longer fetching the value they once had is more related to the reason on WHO use to buy them and WHY they no longer care to own them.
    Sure, there is a sign of an economic downturn. But that's not the real reason.
    Its that these cars are no longer fun to own anymore.
    The government seems to tax you more for owning one of these cars.
    And then the very reason why people purchased them was to take part in the lifestyle of the car.
    That Lifestyle of the car had a LOT to do with WHO you had in your life and by your side.
    With that no longer being the case, there is no incentive to keep these cars.
    Nor is there any real attachment to them since what most people got out of it was bad memories.
