      what about the walmart bottles. you save a swiffer bottle but use a walmart bottle. I get it, walmart bottle is a littel bigger. but just saying. people do this to save money, not to save bottles.

    • @ThePrincessAbides
      @ThePrincessAbides Před 4 lety +13

      @@TheBishop1011 the Walmart bottle is more than just "a little bigger". It's concentrated, so you only use about a quarter of a cup to fill that entire Swiffer bottle. It may be a good way to save money, but some of us do actually care about the ridiculous amount of plastic being used on those refills.

    • @lindastitt2239

      @@ThePrincessAbides exactly. I LOVE big refill bottles of cleaner. I'd rather use ONE BIG bottle of solution to refill than several small ones like the Swiffer solutions.

    • @videodude4
      @videodude4 Před 4 lety +7

      What about the plastic the refill solution would come in? wouldn't that get thrown away as well?

    • @carendestiny
      @carendestiny Před 4 lety +6

      videodude4 yes but if you compare the refills they sell to one bottle of solution that last for multiple refills it’s better than what they are doing now. In general that’s one of the issues with products now is there is no good way to refill them without using another plastic container to buy the refill liquid.

    • @saram5754
      @saram5754 Před 3 lety +13

      @@videodude4 first of all, they could sell much larger containers, and second of all, they could sell concentrates. If one bottle of concentrate provided for an average of 20-30 refills, that’s millions of plastic bottles not being used. And, if they sold this solution in a glass container and charged a buck more, even better. You say this as if there’s absolutely NO way to get around selling the solution in the same quantity, in the same container, in the same concentration. Haven’t thought that one through. Of course, this is about profit regardless of consequence, so it will never happen.

    • @lindastitt2239
      @lindastitt2239 Před 3 lety +1

      @@videodude4 it would, but it'll be much bigger bottles than using their smaller ones and throwing them away. Actually when I clean my kitchen and bathroom floors, I use half water and half alcohol. So not many bottles to throw away period.

    The cap is not high temperature plastic, so by placing the cap in hot water you are making the small one direction tabs used to prevent us from removing the cap softer so that you can force cap off. Leave it in the boiling water for about 1min to make removing the cap as easy as it is going to get. You may want to use a towel like she did to give you grip and leverage. If you still can't remove the cap, try a towel with channel lock pliers. I was able to remove it with a fair amount of force the first time with a towel.

It did take me several times to get it, and admittedly, I finally got my daughter to try it and she is the one who got it! Good news is, it works! It really works. Thank you so much for this video! I was so excited when I got my Swiffer Wet jet, but was so afraid of running out of solution, that I am still using the same one! No, I'm not dirty. The tops have "one way" angled spikes on bottle neck that lock into groves in the cap below threads .....so Good tip with the hot water! I muscled one off fairly easily a few minutes ago using channel lock pliers but it tore the plastic up a little ....the heat appears to be the better way because it both would theoretically expands cap making it temporarily larger than the bottle top but maybe more importantly softens the plastic angled spikes/teeth and grooves so they give way more easily ...I love to defeat the corporations!!

    Actually, I just got medieval with it and used a pair of Channel-Loks. The cap has a series of one-way ratchet-stops, and both your method and brute force can be used to overcome them. This in NO way damages the sealing part of the container; so you can subsequently just use your hand to re-open it in the future. After getting it open, I was at a slight loss as what to refill it with; your video did a nice job of answering it. Thanks there, smart lady!

    Swiffer gets beat by it's own logic! Heat DOES expand metals and plastics. I didn't even think of this. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be implementing this technique - TODAY!

    What a dick move by swiffer, they make the bottle like this specifically to force you to buy their refills. Had I known this from the beginning I would've never bought the product. Coincidentally, if they didn't try to force me to use their refills I probably would buy their stuff in bulk anyway. Talk about backfiring and losing customer loyalty

    First time doing trying to refill my wet jet, this was very helpful. Glad I didn't have to boil a pot of water like some other tips I read. In fact my faucet water was hot enough to use without even microwaving. Anyway thanks again!

    In this day and age it's too bad the company doesn't make a reusable option. I agree with some of the other comments, it's not even about the cost, but the amount of plastic that's being produced, plastic that is not bio degradable. If a refill option were available, I'd probably buy one. In the absence of that option, thank you for producing this video.
