DISASTER ON RACE DAY! PART 3 OF MY NEW JET BOAT DEBACLE.

- Episode 221 of Mike Finnegan's Garage is special because it's the grande finale of a 3 Part Series about my first weekend back behind the wheel of a real drag boat. Although fun, it really did not go well. LOL. We overcame adversity in the form of a severe motor milkshake, which was the result of too much water pressure in the cooling system. We also had to replace several broken valve springs in the 632ci Big-Block Chevy. After solving both of those problems we believed my new 2016 Ralls Precision Machine Cheyenne jet boat was ready for race day. As you'll see in this video, boy were we wrong!
What makes this boat unique is that Andy Ralls cnc-machined all of the aluminum hardware on this boat to be as light as possible. He also had E-Ticket Boats in Lake Havasu, Arizona, laminate the hull entirely from carbon fiber. KMG Boats painted the red, black and gray hues, while Marine Performance Design blueprinted the Dominator jet drive. The boat is powered by a naturally-aspirated 632ci, 10.5 liter aluminum Big Block Chevy engine that produces 1,300hp without nitrous, or turbos or a supercharger. The engine was originally built by Jim Guthrie and recently freshened up by Mike Miller Racing Engines. The engine features a Sonny Bryant crankshaft, CP Pistons, Carrillo connecting rods, Total Seal piston rings, Dart Big Chief cylinder heads, a Dart tall deck aluminum block, an HRE tunnel ram with billet runners, and Gen 3 Holley Dominator carburetors. The electronics consist of an MSD Digital 7 ignition box and a Jesel front drive distributor. The boat was wired by Zack Rauscher.
This boat has ran 132mph with an ET of 5.8 seconds on a 1,000ft drag boat track.
Thanks for watching and as usual, thanks for the support! Did you know that I have a brand new FSM Shirt design? Go here to check it out: www.fsmgarage.com/ - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Bunch of buddys wrenching on a 1300hp engine at night while drinking beer. Life's good doesn't get any better than that.
Damn right, people complain far too much these days my life is nowhere near as cool as theirs but I sure as hell ain't complaining. Life's what you make it
That’s what racing is all about
SO THATS WHY THEY TORE THE BOAT UP DOSNT SOUND COOL TO ME
To have friends like that that will help you like that that is such a blessing and worth more than you could ever pay for so to think that's not a good way to spend a Saturday night no offense but that is a great way to spend a Saturday night
@@charlestorruella8591 yo homie s*** happens
I really enjoyed this series. You can tell how much you love the boat racing community. Have a great holiday season.
“We flew to California, bought a boat to go drag boat racing and broke a bunch of shit.” It’s like the longest most over produced episode of Roadkill and I love it.
man this seems like such a cool group of people to hang out with and race some boats
I'm very lucky.
@@FinnegansGarage In life you are, but not so much in race engines apparently, lol.
@@mattwilliams3456 he is, he said so in the video. 😁

Not as big of a “boat guy” as I am a “car guy” or “motorcycle guy” but this is probably my favorite vid series. Love how you have really shown the whole boat racing scene here…from buying a boat, the boat racing scene, the rules, qualifying, racing, the mechanical issues and the comrade in the pits during the event. Great job on these ones.
Love all the Gear heads having a great moment in time with the fellowship of brothers an sister's working on this Masterpiece smiles on their faces you will remember this for the rest of your lives GODSPEED
This three video series reminds me why I don’t need a boat again. As long as you had fun though, and thank you for the videos.
What a great series. It captured the entire motorsports experience so well. Thanks for taking us along for the entire time.
This series has been some the best editing and production I've seen on youtube
Great production! Fantastic 3 series concept. Congratulations… 👍
Thanks for watching!
@@FinnegansGarageas much as I enjoy your regular uploads, this was really cool - was always excited to see the next chapter. Appreciate you and hope you can do more of this.

You're smiling because you're back home. This is such a cool series to watch and seeing you do your OG thing. :)
Pretty sure that your appearance at this meet, has left everyone in attendance with some heartfelt memories. What a group effort ! 👍
Amazing video series Finnegan! You never gave up. Can't wait to see the winter rebuild.
Best video series hands down. You being you 100%
This three part series of the new jetboat was awesome. Looks like such a great community of people willing to help just to get people out on the water. Excited to see this boat get fixed up over the winter!
Roadkill or Boatkill wouldn't be a thing without Mike Finnegan. Just shows up and makes a show where everything breaks, lots of laughs and somehow makes it interesting and entertaining. 😂 Thanks Mike
Call your boat. Fast Finn 1. Enjoy your video and your passion!
Saved many an automotive flood motor the same exact way with no negative effects. Blows my mind every time. In my experience if it’s not hydrolocked, it will live. But the water has to come out fast. Just as these men did it. Wish I had friends like that. Don’t know what happened. Seem to be on my own now. Seeing this reminded me of some great times and some amazing wrenching. Thank you!
Been dieing all day for this to come out .Steve is a genius on the dyno with a great ability to explain things and a laugh that you can recognize anywhere all around great guy
Gotta get Brule in a video next year!
Gotta get Brule to dial the boat in
Finnegan buys a boat with much less things to go wrong than Game Over. Every single thing goes wrong on it... That's the spirit!
Bummer when there's problems but blessed just to be able to participate. Beautiful place and I pray our American way of life will continue on for generations.
🎶 Mike’s Milkshake brings all the boys to the pits🎶
So to recap Mike sold Game Over because it was too complicated, bought a “simpler” boat to fight all weekend with simple problems. Love it. It’s just how life is. Awesome series. Always entertaining. Glad to know it’s not just me.
Thanks to Chris & Wiley for their hard work hanging with Finnegan all week.
Is that the same Wiley who works on Roadkill Garage? (And probably other stuff)
@@phuzz00 It is
I'm not sure but thinking it was one of the fabricators who helped with the HemiGremi , I'm sorry if I got that detail wrong. Shooting from memory and not confirming with google.
@@jimbetts5164 Wiley Steve’s works on roadkill garage as on camera talent, drone and camera op.
I love how Mike gets a trophy for 2nd place as a kind of participation award and won 250 dollar with a terrible run. Everything broke, at the end he borrowed half his boat of others, all race passes were awful but he still "finishes on the podium" and even "won a race". Most importantly he reunited with a lot of friends. Looking forward to more dragboat racing videos, hopefully with a few good rips.
Loved the 3 part series. It was an expensive weekend of figuring out a new boat, but still fun. I drive past the old Kilowatt stadium site in Memphis, and reminds me of all of the boat racing we had around Memphis when I was a kid up in Memphis and down at Sardis and Grenada lakes in the 60-70s.
I’d love to see more South East drag boat racing.
I would love to have that thing as an alarm clock every day and never grow tired of it !!
Awesome boat and a good time! First thing I was taught as a little fella, when an engine is doing weird unexplainable stuff, start checking grounds and voltages. Especially on a boat! Corroded ground connections are the devil. Saved me tons of money, time, and stress. Simple stuff sometimes eludes us when you're dealing with a motor worth xx,000 dollars haha.
Lucky duck, got a great group of folks who enjoy something in common.
GAME ON.
That's what I would name it.
Enjoyed this series. Thank you for sharing it.
Now that was a great series of videos. So sorry about the problems , but I am sure you'll get them resolved during the off season. I love watching boat drags, although I would never do it ( too much of a landlubber) .I had a ride once in an 18 ft. Donzi with a V drive with an L88 and it scared the crap out of me. You guys are crazy (lol) . Thanks for the videos !!!
Love the boat, love the name! All boats are sidechicks because they are all expensive and they will let you down. It's all part of the fun. Looks like one hell of a fun weekend. Cheers!🍻
This brings back a lot of memories.. I was a young man hanging with Mr. T ( moose) at the time, first boat was a unblown flat bottom ( verboaten) and then switched to a blown fuel hyro shovel nose , I can't remember who it was flown by ... Always wanted to get back into it, life got in the way , Mr. T passed away and I have great memories at Columbiaville mich
Aww, man!
We have a saying in UK boating circles- the two happiest days with your boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it!
It was great seeing you there. We were just a couple of pits down from you.
Early on in the episodes, you said something to the fact of if this boat runs right, it's Game ON. I was all about the name Game On, especially since you sold Gameover and bought this one. Your explanation of Side Chick was spot on. Good luck this winter.
Man the people hanging and helping remind me so much of my off-roading days!!! Looked like a blast
Big ups on the video production of these series of videos. Way to move the narrative. And super great video shots. Congrats, this was an epic journey.
The banter in the pits at night time swinging spanners brings back so many memories, how a turn of events and every single part can fail in one weekend, and then the following meet you can have nothing but spare time between runs. That's racing! Hope you get it sorted asap. 👍
Also loved the cinematography shots of this 3 part series well done 👏
I love Mike's trail of tears and one liners at the end
SideChick is a pretty good name... because the missus won't be impressed when she finds out! 🤣
Great 3 part series Mike. Even with the issues looked like you were having lots of fun with your mates!
Loving your content keep it going ,all the way from Australia 🇦🇺
Ye Ye
Straya 🇦🇺
This reminded me of bracket racing thirty years ago the friends the team work and losing lol. Great video series. Good luck next year.
Great video of a bunch of great guys helping each other out. I agree with not naming it Sidechick, that's a very common name. Good luck Mike I'm sure you'll get it dialed in.
Like this video style of just keeping the camera rolling
Mike this is the first time, out of any of your videos on every channel, that I've felt the super bad for you. Even after Tony knocked the shit out of you did I not necessarily feel bad LOL. But this time my heart actually aches a bit. On a side note, I love how every one of your pals at the "track" were so friendly and welcoming and genuinely glad to see you there. Nice!
I was never really interested in this type of racing until watching this series and seeing the inner workings of it all so thank you for broadening my interests, hope to see more
I love that you are a giddy as a little kid on Christmas morning when you are doing this. The joy you feel shows. You're in your happy place and it shows. please keep us involved.
I've only seen a jet boat out in the wild once and it still has a place in my memories. Those things are beyond cool, and it really seems like they have the community to match, which might be even more important. Awesome boats with awesome people! :)
So pumped to see where this goes….. just pressed play!
It’s gonna be FAST!
Fun to watch. Looks like it’s a blast. You will get it running. Look forward to watching that.
Mike honestly I loved this series, good friends having fun helping each other have fun, doesn't get any better than that, the racing is just the excuse to get together and hang out, loved every minute of it man
"Sidechick" is a good name. "Last Pass" is a little more fitting. I'm glad you are having fun racing
great series of videos, was great to see everyone helping out, lending knowledge, parts, tools, and just general support. thats how its supposed to be.
B.O.A.T. Break out another thousand! .......... but a bad day on the lake is still better than a good day at work....... even mike Finnegans work! good luck getting her to act right this winter!
A losing weekend owning a boat like that is still an amazing life.
Finnegan’s milk shake brings all the boys to the yard! Literally, they were all there!
Sorry, I didn’t race a boat, but am on the beers 🍻
Wow what a weekend, I wanna come on holiday with you all the time now, much love from New Zealand
GREAT job by all. yet I kinda expected Kellis to pop out with a beer in hand singing my milkshake brings the boys to the yard 😉😏
A bad weekend racing is still better than a good day at work. It's awesome to see the community and family out there
For Finn that day was both lol
This whole thing went exactly as I imagined. Thanks for playing and better luck next time. 👍
I love watching these videos Mike.
I'm learning so much watching you guys troubleshoot.
Man, if Roadkill has taught you anything is to not let things get you down and to never give up! It seems like you figured out the problem only for it to not be it! I absolutely love boats and racing so I can definitely understand your passion for it, I'd love to go with you and just be your helper! Can't wait for you to get the thing squared away and do some more racing! Hopefully you give yourself ample time for once and get a fair shot at it ..❤️🤘
Instead of RoadKill, call this LakeKill. Nothing went right, but its entertaining as hell.
The filming and editing is top tier. Better than roadkill.
That man-made lake is shaped like a heart don’t worry she will love you again really cool content thank you brother
Man, something like this series for your drag and drive events would be great.
Epic weekend adventure!
Thanks for the back to back to back videos with amazing editing and production!!
Mo' Problems.... Mike love your content keep it up brother...
I’ve never been a boat guy but this triology has got me interested now.
Thanks Mike.
Can't believe you at all!! A day spent on the lake with a bunch of friends was "OK" Bad Finney!!! OK, the boat broke, you didn't go super fast. You had challenges. But, you spent a weekend with old friends.
Excellent series! As a long time troubleshooter, there's nothing like the thrill of the hunt for what's wrong, and the feeling of satisfaction when you finally kick its ass. I know you'll get that feeling soon...the potential in that boat is strong motivation!
Poor Mike, burned again on a "ready to rip" purchase. I'm glad to see you back on the water racing tho! Will be awesome to see it running right!
Thank you for this series man! I showed this to my dad and it brought up old memories of chawchilla boat races back in the day. Great times!
Look forward to more videos of you working on this boat and then seeing you race it next year. This was a good lesson in what can go wrong will go wrong.
Mike Miller is my new hero. Just wow,
I vote to name it "Game On"!
It's cool seeing you back in this element. I remember the start of game over, fell in love with jetboats with that one... And now with Side chick lol. Woo another project boat!
Some of the best, these last three videos.
Good to see you back in the seat of something your truly happy about. Game over was a sick boat but I seen your struggles with it. Your back to your roots like you said with the BBC.. looking forward to the boat content.
You are a very humble man, man respect.
Thanks for sharing your journey in returning home, literally through Temecula, to seeing old friends in jet boat racing. Loved the subplot of seeing old friends, and the value brought to your life, intertwined with the journey of the boat. Each turn as a viewer, hoping each adjustment would bring remedy to a great run, only to feel the disappointment, and the conquest for a great run, is still being elusive. I hope you continue the conquest next spring and share in new videos, you have clearly rekindled the joy of jet boating with a lot of former owners as myself. Thanks!
I'm as Bummed as you, and it cost me nothing! I so much wanted this to be a stellar event in "OUR" lives. I guess I can look forward to the progression of the diagnosis. That oughta eat up two or three seasons.
Earliest I've been on a Finnegan video. Love the jet boat stuff!
Boy! you’ve certainly got a lot more patience than I do. I would be wanting to burn it to the ground by now or at least to the waterline. What
a great bunch of people down there in that drag boat racing community. Guys and Gals more than willing to help you out and get their hands dirty and give you their expertise or not so expertise opinions on the subject. Your loss turned out to be a win which was nice. Lots of drinks going down, would that maybe hinder the advancement of problem solving? Now you have another project to spend money on. Good Luck getting her up and running properly.👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you for showing us your weekend ride have a good one Merry Christmas
I enjoyed this one...👍
Like seeing you in your more unscripted natural environment. Just having fun and heartache...🎭
Love the new (to you) boat...💖
Well, the boat is a beauty, you'll get it figured out. I think you and Steve Brule' should go out there this winter and fix the dang thing.
It sucks things didn't go to plan but it looked like you had hella fun doing it, can't wait to see more jetboat action next year.
ßúñseeker ⁶⁰ jey yaht 2 dusel jets 130⁰ hp jest 45 knots 50 mph 🗜️
I am only about 12 minutes through and I just have to say... what a good group of people.
The only competitive group I’ve seen that is this friendly and helpful to their competition are cowboy action shooters. It seems like Mike could’ve assembled a spare engine with the generous loaning of parts and expertise from everyone. Very cool.
Awesome mini series, Finnegan! I really enjoyed this and I'm not even a boat guy. Despite breakdowns you always have a great attitude. (I mean, Blasphemi alone😆) I'm so impressed with the community of people too. You guys are helping each other, creating great memories, and living your dreams. That looks like winning to me!
Absolutely loved this 3 part series. So cool to see you catching up with so many people from your old scene and them being equally excited to see you too. Can't wait to see you get this boat tuned up and in tip top shape. I'm looking forward to the first race in February. Glad to see you back in a jet boat doing what you love! And I hope you got some good mexican food while you were there lol
I'm glad you got rid of the complicated boat for a simple one.😀
Sensational mini series, Mike. Brilliant!
I loved watching, hope you aren't too TOO disappointed. It is so difficult to race with an unknown vehicle. It was obvious many folks were happy to see you, and February isn't really that far in the future.
Awesome! looks like you were back in your element! Great video series
ENJOYED THIS VIDEO MIKE, Learned alot about boats. Thanks for sharing 👍. Happy Holidays everyone.
As a gearhead who will probably never own a boat that doesn’t have at least one paddle, it’s so cool to get an insight into this lifestyle and form of Motorsport. Carbon fiber and 10 liters/ 1300 horsepower translates in to I don’t even understand.
The thing I hate most about growing up being the only gearhead in the family is that I don’t know how much cool stuff is right around where I live! I’m definitely gonna have to go watch the races there once the next season starts
I'm a car guy and watch everything you do, this series has Been great ,I'm loving the boat stuff
The Quality of your CZcams Video has gone 2 the next level. XCELLENT ×3 Piece Series. Really enjoyed it .
