That's pretty fucked up to say, I don't think you meant it intentionally but I don't think however comfortable one is, one should revel in the misfortunes of others in which they were visited by death before they would have normally. It's interesting but I don't think I'd say something so hyperbolicly tinted through dispassionate description.
I say this whilst eating before sleep so I'm not trying to act as if cut from greater cloth but felt that the wording was a tad troubling.
Regardless I wish none to know any misfortunes even slightly similar to these.
      Take care.

It's always putting a smile on my face when I hear "first vegan to ascend all 8ks" or "first Canadian women that was born in India to summit Everest" soon it will be "first American half-german-from-mother-side-half-italian-from-father to summit Broad peak from south-south-east side under 27 hours 36 minutes"

omg i know exactly how these climbers felt! i once climbed up to the top of my couch and stood precariously balanced up on the highest neck cushions. after making my way past the middle back cushions, even though i was having a hard time breathing in the thin air, i persevered up to the legendary head cushions. there i stood battling vertigo as i looked out at the view. i almost fell but steadied myself and held my footing. arching my neck, i yelled out, "I'm King of the world!" then slowly made my way back down to base camp where my trusty remote awaited my return.

Idk much about climbing, but I think I’d probably just turn around and go down if there was no tent to sleep in at that altitude. It seems like stopping and or sleeping outside in -20 degree weather is a terrible idea and I’d be afraid I’d freeze to death overnight.

I can't help but sing "Climb Every Mountain" when I watch these videos. I find them all fascinating. The risks they take are insane! I guess if they don't make it, loved ones can say they died doing what they loved to do. That's crazy to me, but I'm not a thrill seeker or adrenaline junkie, so I guess I don't really "get it." As for me, if I fail the first time at anything, that's it. Most likely won't try again, let alone 6 more times. It's quite the exciting life I live. 😄
But in all seriousness, I have to give these mountaineers a lot of credit, especially to those who don't make it. They know the risks, but still do it anyway. RIP to all those who have perished doing what they loved.

There's a mountain in my home country, in fact there are many but that particular mountain isn't even very high but it's bare and treacherous because it's in a limestone section of the Alps. Every year one or two people die climbing this damn thing but people keep going up there. I don't get it, I absolutely hate limestone, the only material I'm willing to climb is granite and mostly I just hike and I get more than enough beautiful views, awe inspiring moments and just time in nature out of it, why all these risks.

In the U.K. (and plenty of other places) “Guy” would be pronounced “Guy” as in “pie” not “Gee” as in “bee”. You’re obviously right, since that was how his friends pronounced his name. It’s the first time I’ve heard it said like that which feels strange. Good video!

The Savage Mountain will never take dust (or snow) off my boots… I cannot bring myself to train at age 80 to spend weeks in frigid temperatures, sleeping on hard ground in tents, eating strange foods (vegan?) even though I could possibly be the first 80-year old (demented?) woman to climb to the top….

You cannot see the K2 summit from the bottleneck, traverse under the great serac, nor to left of the great serac until you get above the serac in elevation -so I dont know how the recounting of the story of Jensen, Bender seeing the headlamps is possible. This would only be possible from Camp 4 or up on the summit pyramid above the serac.

The unfortunate thing about K2 is really that the majority of people who die, die on the way down. I don't think it is sad though. They died doing what they loved to do. We're all going to go. I hope we all die doing what we love, when the time comes! RIP!

Love these movies, these people are either beast or crazy. I would like being at the top but, I wouldn’t want to climb it up or down. I would also want to be very safe, not asking much. There was one rich woman who paid a fortune to be basically carried up and I think caused the death of a climbing icon. That may be off but, I have a bit of dementia so, pardon it I’m wrong. I have a fear of fall, not heights. I can be up high if there is no way I’ll fall and never close to an edge.

If you are thinking of Sandy Hill Pitman on Everest in 1996, she gets unfair stick for having more money than other guided clients caught up in that disaster. Maybe more so for being a woman. Imagine her as a man 100 years before, a Brit, the Hon. Alexander Hill-Pitman on Mt. Blanc in 1896, and you'll see she fits right into mountaineering traditions.
