Attempted to summit last night (drunk) made it to camp one (bend in the stairs 1 ) regained composure and strived for camp 2 ( second bend in stairs )encountered a serious problem attempting to summit (squeaky floor boards) mistakenly disturbed a hibernating bear ( the wife) retreated to base camp ( sofa) 😵💫
🤣🤣
Been there pal, hilarious 😅
😂😂😂😂!!
Haha! Glad you made it. Gotta be more afraid of that bear than the descent!!
You are an eloquent story teller, I look forward to hearing all your videos
Going with K2 as your first 8K’ peak to conquer seems like perhaps not the best choice
Does anybody else put on this channel & binge watch these going to bed? I literally feel like I'm being read a (tragic but interesting) bedtime story every night!
Yeah, me. Can't turn them off.
Yup. Right now.
That is what I have been doing! Laying in my safe bed covered up while hearing tales of people freezing to death.
Same 😊
Totally. Cosy bedroom, people falling off mountains. Can't beat it.
I would feel so guilty that my ego hobby just got 2 rescue people killed 😢
Passing out from lack of O2 and dying 8,000+ meters up on the face of a mountain in the middle of the night with temps in the negatives with howling winds is one of my nightmares. That being said, I find it morbidly fascinating watching videos like this.
Criminally underrated channel
I appreciate this video. I lived within sight of the Southface of Rainier in the Wenatchee Forest. Climbers attempting Rainier always enthralled me.
Insane that people put pride before self preservation in so many of these stories.
Is it? People put driving somewhere 2 minutes earlier, getting home from a bar, or just sex before self preservation all the time
People get the wrong perception about climbing these Mountains. As you can be physically fit as Tarzan.. But if the weather changes. Someone makes one mistake and slips. They can take you with them. And the worst. Over estimating your skills..
The poor helicopter pilots... Died horribly while trying to resue people who climbed the mountains for their own fun and egos.
Love the way you present these stories, with respect to the people involved, never treating them like idiots or numbers. You always make sure to present information about them and make sure we see them as people that horrible things happened to, not just "scary stories" to cringe at. You're a very talented storyteller:)
One of the things that ALWAYS - please excuse the language - "blows my mind" - is the fact that never escapes me, is the fact that the climbers are always accompanied by camera men (persons). Think about that for a while...always carrying cameras EVERY where there is video coverage.
From a different perspective...I am a (retired)physician used to providing care to those with chemical dependence and elite athletes. At some point it might be worth thinking about the association between this two groups...and those who engage in the activities these climbers are driven to pursue...common drives and common outcomes...😕😂😕😂😕
well said.
Rest in peace, pilots. You made life better on this planet and may you see glory and light in your journey other side.
You are an eloquent story teller. I look forward to hearing all of your videos.
It's AI. He said the Andes are in South Africa, and then there are other telltale signs that he's non-human. AI is ruining everything on CZcams, and most of it does not give a damn about facts.
Wow that drone footage!!!! Imagine what was going through his head when he saw that drone! He probably thought it was over until he saw that! Wow 😮
Even on a mountain in North America, it seems like a blue collar mountain climber is exceedingly rare. Really does seem the domain of the bourgsie, other than those guiding them up the mountains, of course. What is it about a desk job that makes someone want to litter their corpse on the side of a glacier?
Not for many millions l would ever go on a tour like this.....
End of the year in Argentina is Summer time. However, I doubt it was warm at that altitude 😂
It's good to hear sometimes people get rescued.
However, it's not good to hear about duying rescuers.
For this video to only have 30,000 views absolutely blows my mind , these are some of my favorite stories along with cave diving! Please keep the stories coming my friend, It’s making me strive to become a climber and summit a few of the 8,000 meter peaks. 🙏
No cave dive. Crazy crazy anxiety when my imagination goes crazy. I would mega panic at the slightest involuntary confinement.
It's at 260k at 6 months. .
How do stories of people dying in the mountains make you want to be in the same situation 😮
Wow, his ski broke AND the anchors gave?? Omg
I saw some comments regarding using Sherpa as a surname, in the past many last names were made that way, my family line originated from people who de-barked trees. We became "De Barkers", eventually Barker.
So, Sherpa as a surname makes sense to me but I'm not a financial advisor 😂
The narrator continually uses the term 'biviak' but I cannot find use of the term anywhere else. Is he meaning to say 'bivouac'?
Probably! That's my guess, anyway.
@@pageribe2399I guess so.
Yes its short bivi so maybe why he said ot that way. Bivouac is a french word anyway.
Yes.
Started my decent from Summit tonight my sock ski slipped landed in carpet in living room close call..
Belaying off of a shoddy anchor and dying isn't "bad things happen sometimes when you climb", it's "you knew this would probably fail, but you already put yourself in a no-win situation."
He's being respectful...
I do understand that, and I mean no disrespect to him on a personal level, but making this seem normal and reasonable puts young climbers at risk.
This was an absolute tragedy, but it was not an accident. It's never an accident when you've knowingly gone into a deadly situation unprepared.
Guides spend years learning to build effective climbing anchors, and carry lots of excess weight in equipment to make sure they can do so in any foreseeable situation. Because that is your life when you put your weight on a rope.
THE ANDES IS IN SOUTH MMMMUUUURICA 😂😂😂 love your videos❤
Yeah. That was a rough one to hear. Andes being in South Af…I can’t even type it.
@@joa.d.4852 😆🤣
@@joa.d.4852they do it for engagement ..
IMO, When individuals enjoy non traditional physical activities, they find excitement in the personal goal achievement, nature speaks to the soul, camaraderie, and endorphin sustainability.
I'm sure alpinist and others have their own morbid curiosity, "Is this the end for me?" Or "Is this the success for me?". It freakin' feels ecstatic to achieve a goal knowing you did it with your own perseverance, tenacity, resilience, and mental fortitude. I'm sure there's self-talk of optimism and moving through one's fear.
The mountain does what it is supposed to do. And sometimes it's the unfortunate timing between man and nature.
What are you warbling about?
Unless you're climbing solo, aren't you relying on other folks too?
@@Beth-sn9ip Climbing with others can also bring the same ecstatic feelings of accomplishment.
I’m shocked that you don’t have more subscribers. Love your content ❤
Quite possible that stories about people dying in horrific circumstances on brutal mountain treks is a niche genre.
@@Charlemagne_III I follow many channels that focus on dark stories like this and they have millions of subscribers. That’s why I was surprised.
Possibly this guy is just a real guy who just has an interest and likes sharing it through his narrations and documentary style. TV companies / programme makers don't really want to lose viewers and CZcams is well known for jiggery pokery censorship. The algorithm might hide this guy and unsub people ect. 'They' only push the influencers that they choose. Or. He's just building up for a great finish. Either way.. I enjoy the vids.
I'm so cynical, mate... but a low subscriber count combined with a sound channel niche with integrity, speaks to me of a creator who doesn't buy subscribers. Or any of that stuff. I know zero about "that stuff" btw. But this young gentleman never fails to deliver a great professional and and personal experience in his work.
@@NavigatorMother in another life we were friends and we still think alike 🙃😉
Enjoying your videos. I appreciate the singles when I have a little time. But Marathons are most enjoyable for me. I get to spend some real time in the famous (or infamous?) mountains with these larger than life climbers.
I'm in the deserts of Arizona. Pretty much the opposite of these frosty- cold-glacier-covered-mountains.
The Andes are located in South America, not in South Africa.
Blame auto-correct.

I absolutely love a good story!! These are fantastic because they are true but also the way in which the story is told makes all the difference in the world and you were born to tell stories!! Thank you so much for this much needed break from politics!!!!!!!!
Some of these mountaineering stories are so tragic.😢
Brilliant video!
Really well done video :)
New sub love ur vids shout out from maine USA 🇺🇸
No one has the right to put others in mortal danger because of a personal goal for whatever reason. This doesn't even consider damage to the mountain.
Damage to the mountain? What are you even talking about? Hundreds of millions of years it takes a mountain to form and you didn't even make it yourself, hundreds of millions of years from now and not one single mountain on the face of this Earth will look or be the same as they are today. So what are you even talking about? Preserving the changes of nature? Do you forget you're a mortal human? A tiny speck on a tiny rock in a tinier galaxy compared to the vastness of outer space?
I'd think you'd be far more concerned over your petty social media than trying [fruitlessly] to preserve a very large "rock" with no feelings. It's littered with frozen corpses nobody's even found yet, so even if you're talking about "preserving" it for future climbers, it's only going to keep growing as a human graveyard. What next then when there's too many and it becomes a traumatic experience accidentally happening upon dead bodies all the time? You expect them to keep it spic and span in clean condition by removing them?
I feel like humans seriously forget that the whole of nature isn't like your garden back home. You are small and insignificant.
I love the music! Great voice and stories. Compassionate handling of difficult situations.
*NONE* of those choppers would have been lost and their pilots *DEAD* if it were not for the *SHEER IDIOCY* of people attempting to climb that mountain!
I beg to differ. This is caused by unpredictable wind shear accompanied by the naturally thin air providing significantly less lift than required for the VFR conditions. Bad place for rotary wing aircraft. Those who actually accept the mission, go and return from it are or should be legends.
23:27 - " keep in mind... the men would only have to DESCEND, on skis"
😮
Everyone develops a passion in life, sometimes that passion can kill you. 😢

First comment! Look forward to watching this one.
Wow! Narrow ridge doesn't quite cover this. Beautiful gootage
Some Very intense Stories 🏔
Happy Holidays
We can breathe the sun from the ground and live to see it again.. no need to risk your own life and others who try to rescue…
Timestamps would be most appreciated ❤
The Andes are in South America , not South Africa ! Good stories though ! Thank you 😊
Gobbledegook, this is insane!!
What kind of music are you using in your video?
It is really horrify when the chopper crashes! 😢
25:27 Breakfrist, my grandma and mom say it like that!
It seems watered down being someone like Gupta can come out of nowhere and pay her way up these mountains being pulled up on a rope by a real climber. I was honored to work with a climber of these peaks at a ski area in New Mexico and those are real climbers
Seems ANYONE can die for a ego these days.... 😂
Bivouac is my favorite euphemism the most elaborate way possible to say you laid down on the ground and passed out
Rainer took my Good friend. Mike Beery. Hate that mountain.
At least they tied!!!
There are many activities I do not try for many reasons. For example, I do not try diving over Niagra Falls. To just try does not justify putting others at risk or leaving your loved ones with a dead body. Sure, reach for your goals and do no harm to those in your path, including, in this case, the mountain itself.
The Andes in South Africa?
Rick was a beast😊
Skiing down a mountain as dangerous as Everest or any of the other 8k’s seems like an inherently bad idea. Would it not be a huge risk of causing avalanches?
Yes there was one or 2 other stories and exactly what happened. The japanese guy just fell.from the mountain pretty much.
Ok, how did Tomas ski break without him falling? I’ve never seen or heard of that before and the last place you’d want to be is Everest.
8 8k mountains are in the Himalayas how can someone be competing for the first American woman to complete all 14 while not having stepped foot in the Himalayas?
How did this guy get to climbing K2 as his first 8k? That’s ridiculous
Death wish.
I think you meant the Andes in South America and nothing South Africa @42:18
Makes million dollars on cabling videos... buys worlds brightest flashlight. Thanks my kind of man!
Rick used all his nine lives. I'm sure he felt invincible.
I’m wondering why everyone didn’t get scripts for Decadron
Do you mean dexamethasone?
So many women claim to have nothing to prove, and yet they still behave as tho they absolutely have something to prove.
Racing to the summit, incredibly stupid. Those egos were hungry.
A question noone could answer so far: Why not use radioisotope heat sources? Sure, it needs plenty of shielding, making it a heavy warm brick-like thing, but that brick would stay warm for years. Add some thermal conductors, install it under the thermal insulation of your gear, and you have a warm torso, making it easy for your body to also keep your hands and feet warm.
Why not?
I’ll just pop down to the local market and buy a suitable supply of radioisotopes and report back to you.
Guessing cost and that pesky cancer risk would be the large part..
The Andes is south africa? Did u mean south america?
I always thought bivuoac was "biv ooo wack" ?!??
If people have children, they shouldn't risk their lives. Losing a parent is devastating. I remember hearing of a married couple who went to climb Mt. Everest and sadly both died there. They had a young son who had said he didn't want his mom to regret not having done/tried it. That is too much to put upon your kid, utterly selfish that the child lost both his parents. If you are a single adult without children that love you and need you, that is different.
I think you're talking about Francys and Sergei Arsentiev
@@ajc94 Yes, I am. I mean no disrespect to them. Their son had had a dream and warned his mom who had told him it was just a dream. I politely suggest that no one ignore, "gut instincts" or "dreams". I can't understand why mountain cliimbers risk their lives, as there is "Luck", as well as, skill involved. I do, however, feel empathy when there is any loss of life. I wish mountain climbers the best- returning home with their lives.
Wrong. The most controversial climb of 2023 was the Norwegian woman who stepped over the dying Sherpa and then held a party afterwards.
I second that!!! That was terrible I thought!
I mean so did like 40 other people that day
Didn't she have some kind of viral social media video to launch? Priorities. Beyond tragic.

Well, his Time did not yet come .........
All fingers point to 2024 being deadlier than 23 on mt everest....buy record profits for the guide companies
Mount Rainier is no longer the most prominent peak in the United States. Since Alaska is now part of the United States that honor belongs to Denali. Second most prominent in the United States is Mauna Kea in Hawaii which is also now part of the United States. Other mistakes in this video but so many that it isn't worth pointing them all out.
I have always heard it pronounced biv wac..😊
That last one about Rick. Arrogant and suffering from god complex. Many close calls and finally K2 got him. He should have listened others and take the same route with them. He was accident waiting to happen.
After watching a lot of these and talking to people in real life, is it safe to assume most the people who climb K2, Mount Everest, Ect are Childless adults?
I personally feel like they have to be childless to risk so much for so little when you have a family to take care of.
What makes me think that is because Gutu(40 yrs old) the other woman was (31 yrs old), most individuals are figuring out what daycare or school to send their kids not surviving on a mountain spending thousands to increase ones ego.
I thought gutu was Canadian
The Andes are in South America, not South Africa.
You said that the female climber was INCREDIBLY experienced but then said only moments later that she was inexperienced at altitude lol 😂
You can be incredibly experienced as a climber and not be experienced at altitude. 98% of climbers are probably inexperienced at altitude outside of sherpas and expedition leaders.
Hence the low view count.
Its really sad that those giants in the climbing Community had to die just because two dumb people had to race…

The alltime best Climbers allways died by avalanches........
Why is the intro hot girl bummer lol
May they rest in ever lasting peace ❤
😂 You called it GREENly Colorado it's GREELEY 😂
The story of the 2 women trying to beat each other is one of the most disgusting stories of “I’m gonna beat you” I’ve ever heard of in any sport. The more I read and hear about it, the more disgusting it gets
only critique i have, is with the brothers and friend, normally you wont get a choice and kinda forced to do it, as its matter of safty, so his death could have been avoided, as for David, i think i spent the last of his powers climbing up, thats why he was found higher up.
when your survival instincs kicks in, you know and anybody who experince knows it
Sherpas may be forced to go on the mountains but every tourist gambles their life voluntarily
No one forces the sherpas to do anything lmao. They make a ridiculous amount of money doing what they do, guiding tourists up the mountains…
@@MMArigo "The salary of a climbing Sherpa guide can vary depending on their experience and the company they work for, but it typically ranges from $3,000 to $6,000 per climbing season. However, some experienced guides can earn up to $10,000 or more. In addition to their salary, many guides also receive tips from their clients."
not exactly a ridiculous amount.
Mt. Rainier is the 3rd most prominent peak in the United States. Alaska and Hawaii haven't left yet.
Contiguous. The contiguous United States does not include Alaska or Hawaii.
Anna Gutu and Gina Rzucidlo, and both of their guides, both ended up dead! Wow! Ginza had one more peak to conquer and died on that peak. I couldn't imagine carrying enough to race another woman to achieve such a thing in a sport where there are so few women. That seems crazy to me. Rzucidlo had a chance to live if they had just came back down when they were notified of the avalanche! They should have worked together instead of against each other. Oh well. They won't be the first and they won't be the last.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS..NOT A MOUNTAIN CLIMBER...BUT THESE VIDEOS MAKE ME HAPPY TO BE ALIVE AND HAPPY THAT I AM NOT ONE!!
Kinda sucks that we don't know what is actual footage and what isn't, but I noticed a lot of it is recycled from previous videos. I have to look away so I don't associate each footage with the story, it feels unauthentic.
You suppose to listen more than look for footage.
The ignorannce of these climbers egos costs more than anyone could bear. 😮
Especially the two women who cat fighted each other do death.
Selfish sport eh? 😢
Can we ask which extreme sports do you not consider selfish?
How do you feel aboot cave diving or skydiving? or perhaps wing suit flying
