TC creator here.
Thanks for playing the TC and for showing others how to get it to run. I have been modding for GZDoom so extensively that I sometimes forget to include these kinds of instructions aimed at players who are completely new to the source port or Doom mods in general.
My personal recommendation is to turn off features like texture smoothing, it helps bring out the great pixel art by Dan Malone. You can find this option in the OpenGL rendering sub-menu I believe. Mouse aiming is essential for this TC since some weapons, such as the Preacher's lightning gun, have auto-aiming disabled, so I recommend turning on mouselook. Another thing that I should mention beforehand as part of a mod presentation, I guess. The special power can be used with the "use inventory item" key.
The "classic Doom demons" are actually slightly recolored Demon Spawns from Dungeon Keeper :) I couldn't find any proper giant frog sprites.
I'm currently working on an Alone in the Dark TC, but after discovering your video (and others) I might put some more work in the next CE maps :)
YES, please we want more CE maps :) :)
Cherno!!!! Great to have you here. Thanks a million for this awesome TC and detailed response. Yes, I had no experience with DOOM TC's since I installed Barney DOOM on my 486 back in the day! Others suggested turning on the mouse aiming and that did the trick. I will also try the texture map trick. Thank you so much for this TC. It is absolutely remarkable. Top notch work! If you ever have to motivation to make more, PLEASE let me know when you do. I know many Amiga fans absolutely love this TC and would be over the moon if you made more. Thank you so much and AMIGA4EVER!!!!
@@TheGuruMeditation Thank you. I will keep you informed when I release a new version :)
The Chaos Engine spirit is there. This is great.
Very true! They captured the spirit very well!
Thanks, GURU for showcasing this awesome mod!!! Amiga Rulez!!
Our pleasure AMIGAA!!!!
Fantastic!!
They have done an amazing job on this mod!
They really have Wayne! It is so cool. What a great idea. Hey, did you catch your and SOTU cameo in this video? I figured if anyone deserves a cameo in a Chaos Engine video it is you!
@@TheGuruMeditation I did! Right at the end haha :D :D
A clip from our last stream together (massive fun BTW!) :D
Great video and excellent effort on behalf of Cherno.
Enable "Always freelook" in "Mouse Options" so you can point down the mouse and shoot the beetles. ;)
ah ha! Thanks for the "always freelook" tip Alex! Awesome!
@@TheGuruMeditation I forgot to mention that this is indeed important since some weapons have their auto-aiming disabled :)
Be amazing if this got some kind of kickstarter funding behind it - it would be fun to play the full blown game in this way - great work!
That is a great idea Peter! I would support that in a heartbeat. It seems like something that is in the realm of possibility if they have the time to spend making all the graphics and maps.
that's very cool ! me to, i could never imagine this could happends one day ;) , so awesome tutorial ! love it! keep the good work Bill !
Thank you so much Jean! I cold never imagine it either. The Amiga community keeps surprising me!
This is mind blowing! Nice presentation Bill! Hopefully the developer will recreate the rest of the game too! As far as i know, there is a 68k port of the doom engine, so it shouldn't be that hard to get it running on a real Amiga.
Thanks so much HeadCrash! Really glad you enjoyed the presentation. Yes, I want to get in touch with Cherno and see if he will do more and if it is possible to do it with the original Doom engine and possible get it going on an Amiga. That would be amazing!
I have zero knowledge on the Amiga Doom ports, but I can say that the Doomsday Engine maps in particular are rather taxing on the PC since they are mostly wide open spaces which means that the game draws everything at all times since there are no walls blocking off sections of the level like normal Doom maps.
Great video, I am going to give this a go!
Thanks so much Ravi! Do eeettt! You will have a blast!
It's really done well; I hope development is kept up
Me too. I will try to find Cherno and show him that lots of people appreciate his work and want more!
@@TheGuruMeditation I hear you :) I periodically search on YT and the internet as a whole if anyone has discovered my Doom mods and other gaming projects, and today I stumbled upon the videos covering my Doomsday Machine TC, and I am glad that people like it, which in turn may give me the motivation I need to continue working on it.
If you would like to check out the other stuff I made for Doom, there's Voxel Chibi Doom, a Gloom Total Conversion, and a mod based on X-Com ("XComDoom") (the Firaxis one).
Very clever Soon mod! Shame we can't add that to Amiga Doom!
Awesome, right? You never know. Maybe we will be able to one day. Seems anything is possible these days with all the amazing people in the Amiga community.
sweet. Nice guide AmigaBill :D We got the same wallpaper i see ;)
Really? What a coincidence? ha ha ;-)
That's fantastic ☺
It is a blast!
Man this is sweet!
It is freaking cool Pete!
navvie is my main. nice tutorial, bill!
Thanks pishbot!
This is cool. It is so freaky being able to recognise the map instantly from fps. I notice they have (quite rightly) had to slow down the pace of walking of the character so it can be played well as FPS. I would love to see speedball2 like this. And yeah, I know speedball2 exists as in like speedball2100 on psone and the pc versions. Still though, as this it would be cool too. So it would be sort of like Brutal-Deluxe-Football. Also Xenon2 like this would be cool. Maybe MagicPockets. Also Cadaver. Also Gods. Also Z.
LOL at your Brit accent btw. :) From the uk, I approve.
Omg. Swos and chaos engine are the only amiga games i still run on my phone.
Top tip. If you use ppsspp to emulate an amiga on android you can use xbrx5!! :)
Thanks for the tip! I am not familiar with ppsspp. I will have to check it out. I need some Chaos on my phone!
@@TheGuruMeditation you need the amiga emulator thats programmed for ppsspp / an actual psp. And you run it inside of ppsspp.
Ppsspp includes many gfx filters but if you use xbrzx5 it upscales the entire screen using xbrz and amiga games look hd. (Think xbox live hd, no gfx changed but everything looks crisper and far less pixelated.)
I keep asking the ppsspp devs to add support for thw 'nedi' filter( holy sh1t bro if you think xbrz looks good... phew) but as yet no reply :(
Nedi filter adds additional diagonal pixels where its appropriate and xbrz looks even better. Less rounded and more erm... true. Lol
Ps if you need a link just post and ill go through my browser history for the uae psp site. Great channel btw. Peace.
Easy thumbs up for that, it looks well good, I am getting that, love a bit of bitmap bros..................
Yeah it is a really cool project. Bitmap Brothers FTW!
This is crazy!!!
Agreed! Crazy awesome!
17:22 - makes him nervous :D hahah
This game is TOP
How cool is that?! :-D
ULTRA-coo!!! :-)
The Chaos Engine really needs a full remaster or sequel.
Yeah, that would be awesome!
My shout out to all who can watch and play this. One of these days *all* first person shooters--especially from the lazy million-dollar game development houses--will have a real physics engine for the rest of us--or not.
These guys rock Andy! I hope they do more with this MOD
Reminds me of Gloom.. 😀
Yeah, a bit, right? I gotta bust out Gloom again.
Funny that you mention it, I also made a Gloom TC (well, at least a few maps). If you search for Gloom Doom TC or something like that, you should find it. It's also on the English Amiga Board and zDoom forum.
If they could do the same with Cannon Fodder I would die a happy man!
Ha ha! Hey, you never know. The folks in the Amiga community never stop surprising us!
that would be a cool project, I really like the idea. Maybe I'll start working on it some day, although it sounds like it would be quite brutal (on the player), having to dodge doors and roofs from blown up buildings!
Hey Bill. I was very sceptical about this game but its such a simply blocky design, Im sure it could be ported to run on a real Amiga. I mean, Doom II works, right? So maybe the mod might also work. With the panoramic view of the whole map, it is mind-blowing what can be done. Maybe someday they will port Goldeneye to run on an A4000? :) Did you know the first motion capture VR was made possible because of the Amiga? I just released a video about it on the Lemontube channel. It would be great if you guys can get it running and find the original games.
The creators said they don't believe they can ever get it to work on a real Amiga, but they were very excited about the response to this experiment so you never know, they may give it a try one day. I didn't know about the first motion capture VR being done on an Amiga. That is cool. I will check out your video! Would love to review one.
@@TheGuruMeditation:) Of course it could run on a real amiga. However the real amiga would need to have all the upgrades. I think a bunch of pre-calc on FPU (on say a 68060, or even maybe a akiko enabled 50Mhz 68030 with 68882 FPU at 50Mhz could do it if optimised). Even in aga let alone rtg it could be done. I mean look at atari-quake and consider how the akiko could handle chunky to planar. New RAM would help it be fast. Really though, it is high time the akiko gate array was put into fpga and should be efficient considering it too is a gate array. I reckon, along with the akiko gate-array, some fpga tweaks could be added to the amiga to be toggled on or off when the amiga is unplugged from the mains-power. A mod (which would help this game too) would be a 32bit blitter with buffer for it. The jaguar had a 64bit blitter, and in fact you could get better (than standard amiga blitter) blitters on amiga Cybervision RTG cards. The jaguar had no buffer on its blitter though and yet Carmack (Doom) said it could have rivalled the psone had it existed on it (but with a wider address bus). So I reckon a upgrade out a1200 could do this game and you would not need a PowerPC in it. Sure it would be a bit blocky looking like atari quake, but remember that atari-quake is running on a puny 16MHz CPU and FPU and yet it looks cool. It is laregly the lack of akiko (chunky to planar) that holds back the amiga. They could be put on expansions these days. Blitter-choking is bad in some amiga games and Elite2Frontier is an example. Recoding to ignore that 4bit blitter (e.g. to toggle its usage on/off ina game settings menu) would help. And then using a buffered 32bit blitter (even just mimicked in fpga) would make the system fly and it would still "be amiga" legit.
The enemies look like a recolored version of one of the Heretic/Hexen enemies.
They are based on the enemies in the original Chaos Engine Game, but there may be similarities.
You have a good idea, the "Mudmen" are recolored mummies (or golems?) from Heretic. The beetles and "froggers" are from Dungeon Keeper. For the next map, I need some burly lizardmen.
The gl doom engines let you mouse look, try and enable that then you can shoot the small enemies
Ahhhh thank you! I will check my settings. That must be the problem. AmigaBill user error as usual, ha ha! Thanks so much
you could also use the FreeDoom doom2.wad ..
that would make the game completely free and copyright free.
Cool. I am not familiar with it. I will check it out, thanks!
Hi Bill, just found your site, subscribed, I've an android tab and uae4arm. I want to play a game called theseus the final Odyssey, cd32 but I think it runs on a 1200 too. Any info on getting it running, no luck for me but I've got all my other cd32 games playing.
hey Bill. have you played the Alien wad for doom?.. based on the Aliens film.. you'd love it..
No I haven't. Sounds awesome! I will check it out. Thanks for the head's up Baz!
Mouselook ;)
Yeah, I didn't realize DOOM had that feature. Others suggested it as well and it makes all the difference!
Great but no interactive & hopeful music change when the exit comes closer
Doesn't look like this mod is going to be developed any farther due to the limitations of the original game.
Unusual guys huh... Kinky
LOL how did you know we like it that way? ;-)
@@TheGuruMeditation y'all both sexy as hell and also adorable so I just figured
@@summerlaverdure Ha ha! Aw, thank you!
wtf. how can we get this game?
All the info and download links are in the description
The link to the Amiga is tenuos at best, this is just a reskinned doom2 running on the PC, would of been way cooler to have had it running on an actual Amiga
Well, I kinda have to agree. However, GZDoom has a lot of advanced features over vanilla Doom II which makes a TC like this possible in the first place. I'm not sure if an Amiga that can play Doom could also handle this TC.
Ummm he appears to be firing coins out of that gun?
Well, I just imagined how the projectile (of which I only had views from above and from the side of) would look from behind, all at 5*5 pixels, that's why it might be hard to identify :)
@@HerrCherno Next time, ask me, I do pixel art, textures, 3d models, programming, editing, cooking.......... the last one probably won't interest you but I thought I'd throw it in there anyway :)
@@Sundaydish1 If you can help me find a stand-in for the Lizardman monster from CE for my TC that'll already be a lot of help! Maybe I'll have to render a 3d model to 8-directional sprites.

Eye-Dee software?! Oh-ess-ECKS?! Srsly bro?
You need to show your ID in order to prove you are of age to play DOOM ;-)
@@TheGuruMeditation I got told off by one of the people from id Software years ago for saying "eye-dee Software" to him... He swiftly corrected me by telling me it was "id" (like "did" without the leading 'd'), and I've made sure that I've said it that way ever since!
@@stormkeepergu Yeah, Id like the Id in psychology. I am glad he didn't punch you. Sexual and aggressive drive. Bring it! Ha ha. Well, it wouldn't be an AmigaBill stream or video without spelling errors and mis-pronunciations!
Meh. I always have said I.D. Software and I shall continue to say that. If only to get doomtard's panties in a bunch.
@@Weird.Dreams Ha ha!
The game is literally bug:ed, lol!
I'd rather just play the original thanks.
Fair enough
The original can never be surpassed! :)
