Add Larry Bird, and in 1979-80 and the Celtics were 61-21, the best record in the NBA, a one year move from 21st place out of 22 teams to 1st place out of 22 teams. Can you name any other player who has had that much impact on a team? The other players became all-stars because Bird made them better.

Larry was the founding member of the 5/40/90 club, first ever to do it, and he did it twice. The young man has no idea what he is saying. Bird is the best all-around player of all time.
I looked at 8 different categories and where each of these players places in the top 250 NBA players of all time
    The categories are
    Field goal %
    Points per game
    Assists per game
    Steals per game
    Rebounds per game
    Blocks per game
    Free throw %
    Minutes per game
I could only find 1 player that was in the top 250 of all time - Larry Bird.
Magic isn't, Jordan isn't, Kareem isn't, Lebron isn't, Kobe isn't, Barkley isn't Chamberlain isn't, Russell isn't, Stockton isn't, Nash isn't, Duncan isn't, Nowitzki isn't , etc. and the list goes on and on
As a matter of fact Bird is in the top 60 of all time in 6 of the 8 categories.
Bird won 73.58% of the games he played in
Lebron has won 66.34% of the games he has played in
Bird did not go trying to make super teams to win - he did it all with 1 team
Bird is only the 3rd player to win 3 straight MVP's (Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain are the others)
Bird started the 50-40-90 club and is only 1 of 2 players to do it in back to back years (Steve Nash is the other) , Lebron has never done it.
When Lebron was asked who he thought the 3 greatest players of all time were his response was Larry Bird, Dr. J and Michael Jordan.
Stop with the nonsense that Lebron is even close to Bird. Lebron is not even in the top 10 all-time.

Magic Johnson said that he had sleepless night because of Larry Bird. " I was scared too death because I knew he could beat me" He also said that Bird was the only person he feared. This in what was a period that had the highest level of talent including Micheal Jordan . Kareem said the best player he played against was Larry Bird ." He was ridiculous . He would wear us down .He made 3 pointers , assist, rebounds, had steals . He was always in the right place at the right time. When asked ,Coach Pat Riley said that he would pick Micheal Jordan to take the last shot to win a game, but Larry Bird if his life depended on it.

One important point about the face fracture incident: Bird wasn't "called back" by his team. He waited until the doctor was distracted and then ran out of the room because he knew the team needed him. After the game they had to drill a hole in his face to find the bone that was broken off and causing double vision while he scored about seventeen points in the fourth quarter (with a broken face).
Also, his team only won 29 games the year before his rookie season. The Celtics won 61 points the next season when Bird joined the team. He wasn't winning because he played with Hall of Famers. They were more likely Hall of Famers because they played with Bird (obviously they were still awesome, but could show it more easily when Larry Legend draws a quadruple team)

Your son says what Larry won 3 championships Lebron has already done that. If im not mistaken it took Lebron 17 years to get his 3rd while cherry picking his teammates. Larry only played 13 years and it was really 12 because he basically missed an entire year. Never mind the fact the Larry played in the dominant conference while Lebron played most of his career in the weak conference.

Lebron fan immediately brings up rings when comparing Lebron to Bird? Interesting... I guess sometimes rings are important when comparing players. Bring up rings to most Lebron fans in the Lebron/Jordan discussion and all of a sudden making the finals is what matters. Not so much whether you won or not.

There is a reason he is called Larry Legend. Larry was a 6'9" SF. Bird only played 13 seasons. Yes, he played with 4 HOFs, however the thing your son is missing is from the moment he stepped into the organization he was the unquestioned leader of the Celtics and the most feared player on the team. Bird is easily top ten in the history of the game.
