Pat attention: Bird took a small school team that never had a chance at anything, never went anywhere, to an amazing unbeaten season. All by himself. Magic had a real team from a real basketball contender school. Bird was so amazing that year, he STILL won "college player of the year" over Magic.

Not so much so I say they are in my 'tier1'. With B Ball, it's like Magic Jordan Bird. Can I 'choose' 1? I say, they all three are 'tier 1'. I think that's kinda how you're talking. How can you just make a clean list of rank and call it a day - it's too complex for that.... How could I choose one over Magic or Bird?! They are so close in my regard for them...

P.E. class we always ran 10 warmup laps around the gym. One day, a
trampoline was set up on the basketball court and there was Larry Bird
bouncing on it. As the whistle blew and we reluctantly lined up to run
our laps, our teacher (who was also Larry's basketball coach) blew his
whistle, and said "Larry is going to take 10 shots while jumping on the
trampoline. If Larry makes any shots, each one made will delete a lap
that you must run." Coach threw the ball to Larry and right there in
front of me and the entire boys Jr. High P.E. class, Larry proceeded to
hit 7 out of 10 shots while bouncing up and down on the trampoline, 35
feet away from the goal. Larry set an incredible example for me as a
young boy in French Lick, Indiana that helped me through my entire adult

Remember, Bird played his last 6-7 years with a back injury that would have driven any mere human, to include 99% of today's NBA players into retirement. It (his drive to win), is what spurred Magic Johnson to obsessively work and practice to get the best of his rival. He (Magic) knew... Bird was somewhere, doing the same exact thing! At the end of the day, no matter your, mine, or anyone else's opinion, they mean nothing. Other than the mire fact that this battle rages, inspires us to revisit a truly remarkable era of the NBA... Some of Johnson's notable performances against Bird:
Feb. 23, 1983: 20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. The significance? It was the only time Johnson had a triple-double against Bird in the regular season.
Feb. 15, 1987: 39 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. The significance? It was the most points Johnson ever scored against Bird.
Dec. 15, 1989: 16 points, 21 assists, six rebounds and six steals. The significance? It was one of 23 times in his career that Johnson dished out 20 or more assists. According to Basketball Reference, only John Stockton (38) had more 20-assist games in his NBA career.
As for some of Bird's notable performances against Johnson:
Feb. 16, 1986: 22 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists. The significance? It was the most rebounds Bird collected against Johnson in the regular season.
Dec. 11, 1987: 35 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and five steals. The significance? It was Bird's highest scoring game against Johnson.
Feb. 15, 1991: 11 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. The significance? It was the only time Bird had a triple-double against Johnson. It was also the last time they played against each other in the regular season...
On top of it all Bird played injured constantly at one point Bird was working on his home farm or some shit and crushed his shooting hand. The Dr. said he would never play again so Larry learned to play with his other hand, that's why he's so damn good with both hands. Picture if that man never got hurt.

Another player to check out, who not only is the NCAA all time point leader by a mile, averaging 44.2 ppg over his 3 year college career, "at the time freshmen didn't play their first year"; oh and he did it all without a 3 point line. Despite this, he regularly shot from downtown, in fact adjusting the numbers to include the 3 pointer, his ppg average skyrockets to an unbelievable 57 points per game!
He was showtime before showtime, his ball handling and shooting skills are the stuff of legend, he is the one and only "Pistol" Pete Maravich! His passing abilities left opponents with their jaws on the floor, had so much flash and flare he was offered a 1 million dollar contract with the Globetrotters. And though I haven't heard Larry say it directly, I have little doubt that he modeled his passing game after Pete's.
As far as Goats, I feel people really need to break it down by position and the era in which they played. It's ridiculous to try and claim that any recent or current player is the Goat, when looking at how different the game is, specially when compared to the knock out, drag out, physically brutal play of the 80's and 90's. LeBron is great but their is no way of knowing, how well he would have held up, back in the day playing against Isiah Thomas's Bad Boy Pistons, Larry's Celtics, Magic's Lakers, Ewing and Starks Knicks and Jordan's Bulls! All it takes is the right injury and your never the same afterwards, or your career is greatly shortened, or in extreme cases you have to retire and kiss the pro career goodbye.

Birds injuries, Len Bias dying, and Reggie Lewis passing away, Celtics were set to be champs for a while. Lucky for me i got to see Bird play live once. If you get the chance, read his book, Drive. Great read for more about him and some inspiration. Great reaction sir.

Dont 4get these 3 things. None of the current players faced the opposition that Lary did. 2) Pat Rielly the greatest coach of all time said, " If I had 2 pick a player 2 make a shot 2 win a game I'd pick Jordan. If I had to pick a player 2 SAVE MY LIFE? I'd pick Larry Bird. (2 answer yr clutch question. 3) Many of the greatest players of the game n sports announcers were asked if they had ONLY 1 pick in a draft between Kobe, James, Jordan or Bird which wud u pick? THEY ALL SAID LARRY BIRD! ALL DAY!! So wat does that say 2u? THANK U 4 BRINGING THEZ GAMES 2 LIGHT 2 SHOW LARRY'S GREATNESS! Coming from a 60yo white woman, this is so exciting. I also appreciate yr fairness. I know who yr fav is in the fam so it's so special how honest yr being allowing others 2 make their decisions w/o playing favorites 2 obviously. Yr a fine man n yr allowed 2 feel like u do w/no apologies

I give the number one to the man they had to change the rules to stop. Wilt Chamberlain.

Bird honestly did have more clutch moments than jordan. Clayton doesn’t even show the majority of the last second shots he took. love your vids man.

These "making The Case" series are amazing. Bill Russell was the best one IMO. I think you would really enjoy it 🙂

You should watch the documentary about Magic vs Bird. I think it was either HBO or ESPN that put it out. It really dives in to their relationship and their backgrounds. They became best friends through rivalry and shared common backgrounds. It's the best basketball documentary I've seen ever.

The X-Man's( Xavier McDaniel) story is hilarious....and Larry's performance against the Hawks....and the Bench reactions to Larry's performance....and the story of the Coach just rewinding over and over and putting fines on the Players...LOL
    Great work Brother God Bless
