ABOUT:
A bike mechanic helping you with city biking and cycling tech. 👩🏻🔧
I owned a cargo bike shop, and have been working in the bike industry for 20 years. On this channel, I am covering mostly city biking tech, action cameras, e-bikes, and general bike maintenance.

MY DISCLAIMERS:
1. All of these videos contain products, logos, or mentions associated with Tern Bicycles. Whether or not the video itself was sponsored by Tern Bicycles, I do work for them, and by extension, every video on this channel is supported by them.
2. Some products are provided at no charge for review. I'm not paid or bribed for reviews, and they will be as honest as possible. Additionally, some links are to affiliate advertising where I may make a few pennies from your purchase. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Perfect timing! I just picked up my bike yesterday and totally needed this video! It would be helpful to see a demo video of how the primary person rides and locks and then what to do if another person wants to ride it. It sounds like there’s no way to lock/alarm it and then have another person come and unlock it, even if they each have the flow app. Thanks again for all of your great videos! Super helpful 😊
That is correct… you can’t share login to unlock since the bike will be paired with the first persons phone.
The downside you point out at the end about Bluetooth pairing and the inability to share is useful. I do all the maintenance on our six e-bikes, so pairing some bikes to my wife's phone means I have to work around that. It also creates an issue for bikes we share, such as our front loading cargo bike.
I am interested in the specifics in how the assist levels are working, as I found eMTB mode with Gen2 has not work very well for me - too much surging. Even though I live in the mountains, I ride on fairly flat terrain - either slightly uphill (up-valley) or slightly downhill (down-valley) with steady wind in in my face or a tailwind. These "static" riding conditions don't seem to pair well with Bosch's adaptive eMTB. So I find that I want to use "Sport" in the non-adaptive mode.
Thanks this is super helpful.
Awesome! Do you have an e-bike?
@@CargoBikeLifecom Not yet but soon and it'll be a smart system with intuvia 100. Do you miss any significant feature compared to the kiox 300?
Would be nice if all the settings could be controlled by the app - eg language. FYI my go to tracking app is OsmAnd and I was pleased to see Flow exports a GPX file which imports into OsmAnd seamlessly.
Excellent video, clear and informative. Now how do I fix the ongoing issue when the Intuvia won’t connect to the controller? 😢
Hey Jane, I have heard of this concern but haven't heard of a fix yet from Bosch!
Any ideas if will be possible to connect multiple phones/accounts to ebike flow app? I heard some things about bosch working on it
Not at this point
Arleigh - do you have any insights on how to get the Flow app to display the output from a Garmin Varia? I've recently had one installed on my Cannondale cargo bike with Bosch system, but have no idea how to get the output to display. Cannondale seem to have it running on a different model but no guide on how to do it.
I did not know the varia and flow app connected! I’ve messaged Bosch tech to ask.
Thanks Arleigh! The one bike/phone issue sounds pretty annoying. I really hope that gets sorted out soon.
Couple of questions: Is the power it displays just human power or human+motor power?
Can it broadcast power/cadence over ant+ to a Garmin, or just save it through the phone?
When can I get an upgrade kit for my gen1 GSD?
I haven’t seen any signs of an ant or BT signal coming off for garmin/wahoo/etc.
The closest thing for an upgrade would be a Nyon or Kiox display :)!
Thanks for this review. Let's hope they address the pairing issue to allow multiple phones to be paired with one motor. First Tern says bike is easy to share with familymembers with quick lock seat post and handle bar, but then not because other person in the family has it locked with their phone. A little bit of a conflict there.
I have found the kiox fixes some of this
@@CargoBikeLifecom you are right. Kiox 300 have this. I am trying to retro fit this to Tern HSD P5i and found out that it has a 25,4 mm diameter handlebar. Bosch only offer Kiox mounts for 31,8mm and 35mm handlebars. Do you have information on how Kiox 300 could be retrofitted to slimmer handlebars?
@@vpairo tern has the mounting harness from the S-class models on order. I hear it will be in sometime February.
Beyond that, there are many adapters from the 31.8 to 25.4 - I’ve used the wheel’s manufacturer version.
When you get it going could you send me a message? I would love to see what parts you used and how much it cost. Arleigh@bikeshopgirl.com
Thank you for information. I'll see what I'll do now or wait for new part and just manage without e-lock for now. @@CargoBikeLifecom
What are your thoughts on the Bosch Connect Module? I am considering buying it as I use my bike to go to and from work. I lock it in a fob only access shelter, but thought this could give me extra peace of mind.
I love it. Probably the best part of the entire Bosch Smart System.
Ok cool, so there haven’t been any real negatives with it then? Thanks for replying 😊
Thanks for answering my question about sharing a bike, yet is not possible.
I would look at the Kiox display as the key if you want to share it.
@@CargoBikeLifecom Thanks a lot
If you can how do you sync your bike with kiox 300 to galaxy watch 5 for heart rate
And if it's not available yet, if you know it's going to be rolled out as it was previously with aple with Apple Watch
it should be. It now can take general BT heart rate!
What happens if your registered phone gets lost or stolen? Doesn't that render the whole system useless?
If i do a usual 50 mile ebike ride,do i have to keep my phones blutooth and location on,if so wont that wear my phone battery down to zero?
Your phone isn't required to ride unless you make it the "key" to the eBike Lock and Alarm.
