In 2011 I did this concert in conjunction with my PBS program From Gershwin to Garland. Joey Luft was in the audience while I played Happiness is a thing called Joe.
Laura Cradler, I have read just the opposite. She didn’t do drugs while she was pregnant. I have read that on more than one occasion. I tend to believe that she didn’t take the pills while pregnant. Judy obviously had a pill problem, but she wasn’t stupid. She knew that drugs could harm her baby, so she would quit while pregnant. Joe is the quiet side of his mother. That doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with him.

Liza got Joe a job in the 70s with- I believe it was Halston- as a gofer, but aside from that I never heard nor read of Joey working. Lorna wrote in her book that Joey suffered brain damage because Judy didn't abstain from her meds. Being only slightly older than Joey, how could she know? Her father Sid likely told her. It would explain his inability to work as an adult, as well as having almost died in childbirth due to a lung slow to open.

Laura, Actually I don't believe she was. She had dried herself out near the end of shooting A.S.I.B. and was off them for quite a while. By the was Bitch, Judy didn't take drugs for the fun of it. like Elvis, Joplin, Whitney, Prince, Michael, ETC. she was given pep, sleeping, and wake-up pills by M.G.M. to keep her in front of the camera. And many times they would work her and Mickey around the clock and pumping them full of pep pills. that's how she became addicted. Many times she would kick the habit, but when things got bad and she got depressed she would start again. So Bitch have a little compassion for a Lady who entertained Millions of people and made their lives a little happier, while she was paying the ultimate price. By the way Judy never did street drugs, only prescription drugs. Judy wasn't emotionally strong enough to stay off those darn pills.
