The reality of NBA teams and players, not actually seeing any real benefits from FIBA, is nothing new. You see, these athletes know where to invest their body and effort into; for the young guys of the league, sure, it's an honorable thing to represent your country. But for those who have been there for a long time? I highly doubt they're still motivated.
You see, USA needed embarassing losses to bring out their best (dream, redeem teams). What does it says about USA Basketball? the league and USAB management needs to find a way to motivate players to represent their country, not just rely on "revenge season" type of motivation.
@@jpao1834 Only way to do that is probably more money. But the US is really just that much better at basketball. That fans even their own players aren’t invested into a comp their team can easily dominate had they have at least their B team
@@followthebrickroad6518 Pretty sure there's no real salary involved in the first place, but incentive-driven USA Basketball team; something that's common for the other intl teams.
However I do agree that if USA wants to hold that top spot of their own sport? Then they should be more creative in convincing their top athletes to represent their country. A salary based on a percentage of their NBA contract for each player? That's something that the USAB needs to talk about imho.
Doing it for honor doesn't drive most of them nowadays; something that I do not blame them entirely. Their body, time and effort is what brings them money, of course they'll be wise about it.

Let's get this straight: this team USA was neither of those things, but competition on FIBA basketball is harder than ever and the USA and the NBA live on their own bubble, thinking that they're on top of the basketball world, like it was in the 90's, but now talent is more spread internationally, so if I was team USA I would get the best players available that work together, like this world cup roster did, maybe taking talent up a notch, and make them go win it all, because against Lithuania they let themselves go when Lithuania was not missing from 3, as it was an irrelevant game for them, and they just were not ready for Germany and the variety of reliable options they had

This isn't about talent man. This is about tacticts and fundamentals of the game and playing defense. There are a lot less talented teams that this but they don't allow for 100 points in 3 quarters in FIBA basketball.
I always enjoy your videos, but would it kill you to mention that this is not the olympic team, that this is not some olympic qualifier tournament -it-s the world cup, or what was previously known as the world championship- , and that RJ Barret was not celebrating qualification for the olympics, but getting to the semifinals of this tournament? The olympic qualifying stuff is a side effect of FIBA's criteria for these tournaments...
Americans love olympics tho cause that's the only thing they compete in against the world. That's also why they don'r even know what the word "world championship" means

why the hell is everyone now pissed off at US basketball? Literally not 4 years ago in the last world cup we brought out our C TEAM with Khris Middleton and Kemba Walker as our best players and nobody gave a fuck that we got blown out that tournament.

Canada has produced the most foreign NBA players, with 60.That's a strong indicator on the status of American basketball.

But even in the last olympics they got some pretty huge scares...literally lost a game in 2021 and had like 3 close matches, in Rio they had lile 4 close games and even in London while they were amazing against Lithuania it was a pretty hard game and in both finals in 08 and 12 with Kobe, LeBron, Melo, Wade, KD, CP3 Spain competed pretty well. Clearly even with the top dogs you win but there can be some scares, let alone you getting your third or fourth best teams out there

To be fair there are several issues
1.) USA has too many talents. Once you are passed that initial 15-20 players any more depth is just diminish return. while good teams can field like 2 competitive squad, USA can probably 5 or 6 which is a moot point.
2.) NBA rules try generate highlight reels and the classic 5 was completely neutered. in FIBA tournament defence is allowed more leeway.
3.) Team USA players never commit to playing for the country regularly. you only make up the squad last minute ahead of a campaign while other teams play for their countries regularly.
4.) too much money and too many egoes in the NBA.

When you think of the USA A team you think about Curry , Durant, Lebron, Lillard e.t.c. We are talking about 35 year old average, at least for the starters. That should be alarming for USA basketball
We need carmelo for 2024 as an assistant coach. Also need a head coach that will get on the star players and not pander to them. Like Mike Malone. The coach needs to be a savage like coach K.
The NBA style is drifting further away from international style. NBA players are by far more talented and better skilled with all the resources and money they have... but as that gap closes, the lack of 'team' style basketball and the downplaying of the importance of defence will eventually make the US team just like every other team. Especially because FIBA refs actually call fouls.
Notably, both teams in the finals right now (and in 2019 as well) run actions the whole game. The US team does exactly what an NBA team does. Pick and roll, then rely on talent. It's simple so can be practiced more, better to watch and provides the opportunity for way more exciting moments... but it's not good basketball when the referees actually call fouls.

NAH. calling mikal bridges and austin reaves role players is CRIMINAL. bridges is 25 a game, number 1 option and reaves started and was averaging 17 a game in the playoffs
Reeves is still a role player. They're not an all-star yet and most especially not a superstar. On the other hand, Bridges just benefits on a bad team.
Reaves is 26 years old and averages 12 points. He's the definition of a role player

Its obvious that in most other teams except the suns he would be 1st or 2nd option with more volume scoring opportunities

Not sure about the Trae Young story but apparently he flaked on Team USA last minute just days before the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Leaving them in a compromised position as the other top guards that point already had other commitments. Which is why they resorted to Marcus Smart who was the only other guard available at the time. Similar case with Dearon Fox if im not mistaken which was why he wasnt considered aswell. Obviously its all speculation and rumours at this point but I havent exactly heard Trae Young deny this....

The US at least since the 2000s has sent young guys and vets to FIBA. The Olympic roster usually features the stars. How else would the US win gold in like 16/19 Olympics😂

Nah. A lot of these guys on the current roster are either all star level player or just a step below that. These guys that they're playing against if you put in 2k game would have ratings of 50s or 60s. This roster of USA team should not be losing to other countries, unless they're overrated and actually should only have ratings of 60s or 70s at most.

A few things you didn’t mention nba teams could of blocked there best players playing due to insurance and risk of injury they do it all the time for international players. FIBA and the Olympics are def different. We don’t have as much of an emphasis on the FIBA stage as we do on the Olympics stage. We’ll be fine in Paris
between USA 🇺🇸 & Canada 🇨🇦 is gonna have 19 NBA players fighting for bronze 🥉 while between Serbia 🇷🇸& Germany 🇩🇪 have about 3 or 4 between them going for gold 🥇

Jerry Colangelo has a black list of players he suspects that don’t make time or have that desire to play for team USA.. so he never invited specific players to tryout at their camp or he cuts them during the roster cuts.
