  • @rj2v
    @rj2v Před 24 dny +5

    The US didn't perform poorly at the last WC because of their squad, it was their coaches that failed to understand the nuances of the FIBA game. Watch their games back. Their offences relied on basic actions whereby FIBA actions are more intracate and actually swing the ball to loosen up the defence. If the US first action didn't eventuate, they relied on iso heavy action which plays into the hands of FIBA defences. As for their defence, there was a disctinct lack of boxing out for rebounds allowing for multiple offensive rebounds for opponents. Also, the coaches failed to impart the ability to utilise allowing players to play split line defence AKA clog the middle and therefore creating space on the inside for FIBA teams to exploit.

    • @gabepizza
      @gabepizza Před 24 dny +3

      also the USA didn't have size. Small ball doesn't work in FIBA like in the NBA as the court doesn't have the spacing and there is no 3 seconds. Yes we sort of won the Olympics with small ball but 1 we had Bam, one of the best defensive centers in the league and 2 with a super team like Durant, Tatum, Lilard, etc...you can out score anyone but it was still close. At the WC our only true centers were Portis and Kessler, role players. Jaren Jackson was exposed as in the NBA he plays PF and has a center like Adams to do the dirty work but he got out muscled by the European bigs. Same with Banchero who is great but again in the NBA he is a 4, he needs a center to to the dirty work. Look at our teams in 2016 (Deandre and Cousins) & 2014 (AD & Cousins with Faried as well) they dominated the front court
