    I feel like the debate about how to pronounce Nikon is just like the debate about how to pronounce ARRI😂😂

    I work at a lab and couldn't agree more. The young generation that is helping keep film alive is not doing much to keep cameras alive. In my experience the young generation wants to be seen as shooting film but they don't want to learn anything about what it takes to shoot film. Many don't even know what ISO is about much less the exposure triangle. That is why you see digicams getting popular again. People looking for the film look without having to learn anything. Same with the popularity of point and shoot cameras. Then they complain when the photos look like crap. Regarding flexing. I love to flex my cheap cameras, including the om10, which is an amazing camera and zuiko glass is fantastic. No hassy for me, I'll take my bronica anyday. Leica? nope, I'll take my canon 2sii. I do have a rolleiflex but it is the old standard 622 that I picked up for less than 100 bucks. The bronica and my large format camera are the only cameras I have that I spent more than 100 dollars to buy and neither cost more than 400. I am afraid of what will happen in the film industry when all the wanna be and look at me people stop shooting film because they never learned how. OK, my rant is now done. lol.

    Re: the lab comments - I work in a small lab in QLD and we generally have a 1.5hr turnaround on developing and scans. Every now and then it stretches out to a half day turnaround due to large orders and you wouldn't believe how many people get aggro after 2-3hrs after dropping their film off that they haven't received their scans yet! Just chill, we're getting to it and we want your scans to be the highest quality they can be :)

      Idk man, imagine having a deadline for clients only for you not to meet that deadline because you have no idea where your negs are because said lab never told you anything in the first place. Totally warranted imo.
      Sure you could say that if it were for clients, get scans, but that’s not the point. Also, what if that client wanted darkroom prints? Sorry, you can’t because your negs are MIA

    Yes, they need to remake the FM3A without the "feature" that the film advance lever needs to be pulled before triggering the shutter. (Perspective of a left eye shooter here)

    The way Nikon markets the pronunciation of their brand and their Z mirrorless depends on what country one lives in. Nikon commercials, 800 numbers, brand ambassadors, etc. they all pronounce the brand based on where they are marketing their products. It’s interesting when Nikon representatives in the US pronounce Nikon like every one in the US not like in Japan.

    • @rhbraly
      @rhbraly Před rokem

      True that. You won’t likely get people to change the way they pronounce it when the company itself pronounces it that way in their ads. I’ve lived in NZ for the last 25+ years and of course I now pronounce it nee-kon 😂. If I were to go back to the States I’d say nye-kon. The main thing is that people understand I’m talking about a camera😊. Same problem with Nisan and Mazda.

    • @bngr_bngr
      @bngr_bngr Před rokem +1

      @@rhbraly yet, Leica is the same way. We usually don’t communicate in other languages today. For the US I think is all those US photographers using Nikon during the Korean War. They just used their way to pronounce a word they never heard of before. Maybe if they had the internet before we wouldn’t have that issue. At work, I use to call people’s voicemail when I needed to know how to pronounce a persons name.

    Hi Coops, I loved this video. I follow your videos ever since your photowalk with the Mamiya RB67 a few years back. You are right about all the comments in your rant video here. It is indeed Nikon [Neekon] instead of [Nykon]. But, forgive me for saying : it is milliMETER and not 'mil' (which is what Poms and Aussies say) because a 'mil' = 1/1000th of an inch! 😆 Cheers mate, and keep them coming!

    If the lab often scratches the negs and mishandles things, best way to pull them up on that but not burn bridges with the only lab in town?

      I’m sure you would leave a bad review if you ever had a bad experience with a business too, after all, you wouldn’t want anyone else going through the same experience, doesn’t matter how high on a pedestal this film lab is

    Lol pronouncing Camera brands is a good one. Havent heard anyone non native pronouncing Rolleiflex or Voigtländer correctly 😂

  • @bigrobotnewstoday1436

    Pentax can make different cameras just keep the K-Mount or bring out a mirrorless camera with an adapter but they don't need new lens here's why.
    DSLR great for people that want the OVF.
    Mirrorless DSLR great for people that want a EVF. Pentax could also make a SLT like Sony did with A-Mount but I think a mirrorless DSLR would be better.
    Mirrorless camera with a new mount with an adapter. This camera would be great for people that want to mount other branded lens on a camera like old lens mostly manual lens. When putting the adapter back on you have K-Mount. If they want they can bring out just a few mirrorless lens if they want maybe just f2.8 zooms and three primes 35mm 50mm and a 85mm and call it a day.
    Pentax can make auto focus SLR cameras again and they can make full manual cameras again.
    Best part K-Mount lens work on any camera you buy.

    10:42 so I’ve seen the review and I get it, some things are out of the control of labs but I think your personal bias is getting the way since you have a personal stake in Silver Halide (you sell your straps from there).
    In defence of the person that left the negative review for the lab in Perth the biggest thing that stood out to me was lack of communication on their part and that’s totally their fault
    imagine that you had a deadline for a client or for a magazine and now you couldn’t meet that deadline; that’s a lost job and/or lost money. Sounds like that person never knew the whereabouts of said negatives after a few weeks but if a tracking number was provided, at least they would’ve known.
    Regarding the free postage. I’m pretty sure the person said that the film lab never gave them a quote so had no idea how much to pay even though they were happy to do so. Again, bad communication and if they offer return postage for negatives, maybe it should all be one price, so that does fall on them
    So if anything, I think that person was more than patient enough so I see the reason for the bad review which imo is deserved so, calling them names like an impatient jerk isn’t warranted imo
    Mysteriously, that review is now gone which feels like a dishonest thing to do tbh on the lab’s behalf but that’s just my opinion
