Helldivers 2: Be Your Squad’s Guardian Angel with this INSANE Spear Loadout

- Squashin bots is my favorite pastime, and through my tinkering I may have just created the new meta loadout against the bots. The Plasma Punisher, Gas Strike, Rocket Sentry, and Spear work beautifully together against the bots, giving you a solid answer to ANY situation. But more importantly, how we use these weapons to support our team is gonna encourage our random squadmates to WANT to work with us. Let me show you how.

The issue is that it is far more efficient to be separated and that's OhDough's issue.
The only reason I stay with the team on 9 difficulty is because I'm maxed on everything but medals and super credits but I have everything I want. But when I didn't have all the ship modules, I was always by myself while my team did their own thing so I could collect all the samples (the rest of the team was also separated from each other). Autocannon makes easy work of pretty much anything, even Factory Striders if you know what to do. I'm not encouraged anymore to collect everything on the map so I just stay with the team and help out. If they released a new ship module set, I would continue being solo because I want to complete that as soon as possible. Often randoms get pinned into long fights that waste time, or at least that is my experience.
@@Dream11Walker I agree that the game should reward play to stick together but, you point something "Often randoms get pinned into long fights that waste time", if you play solo or on group it happen because some pleople didn't know they can simply disengage, solo or group, I have seem many player stuck in a useless fight or fighting on a destroyed outpost because they simply don't disengage a fight.
I already do some solo helldive and being stuck on useless fight or doing a fluid full clear sticking with the squad together during all the mission. I can agree that the game need some more change to reward teamplay (but to be honest I prefere them to focus on bug and optimization but it's personal, some peoples may want content and other more game balance).
I also really like CommissarKai he show different build, from the free electron to the full support guy and it's change from "this is the most META build ! play it !"
Big fan of the stalwart with ammo bag. Any time I see someone using the SPEAR, I follow them around to keep them stocked and in the fight.
Theres nothing in the game that can stop two guys with an MG, Ammo Backpack and a Spear!
Heavy slaying and horde clear in one effective duo? Yes please!
(Though I'd probably sub in the MG-43 for the Stalwart on the bot front, especially after its ammo buff)

Something I don't see people talking about enough on bots is Strong-Side Cornering.
Basically, whenever you have the option, you want to have your obstruction to the left of you. Helldivers (even when shoulder-swapped) favor their right, as do most bots. This means that by putting the corner to your left, you only require minimal exposure to fire, while the bots (for whom that same corner will be on the right) must be nearly or fully exposed before they can effectively fire.
The effect is lessened (but still valuable) against center-firing enemies, like Striders, but it can let you absolutely clown on otherwise serious threats such as Heavy Devastators and even some Hulk variants.
It's absolutely worth it to take a few seconds to reposition to a strong-side corner whenever you have the opportunity.
As a rabid spear user, I can say that detector towers and stratagem jammers can't always be destroyed by the spear. It depends on if a fabricator spawns close to the detector tower/stratagem jammer
To clarify, the spear destroys a fabricator which then does a bigger explosion that takes down the detector tower/stratagem jammer

Love the team focus. I played Six Days In Faljuah solo because none of my guys were too into that game idea, and when I returned it, I quoted the several Marines who are veterans of the 2nd Battle of Fallujah themselves, and said that they made it pretty clear that without your fireteam, you're a dead man walking. I know solo diving is popular, but like in so many games, dropping with a squad, working together *completely* changes the game! As one of my friends who's been all over the world doing insane shit says "Stick with the man who has your back".
I love the new spear. I can protect allies who overextend without putting myself at risk.

Imo all he does is post videos with decent players who actually stick together and tries to take credit for every single thing that happens, making huge assumptions about why everyone on his team is doing what they do
I don't give my teammates a chance to be bad, because I can cover any mistakes they make. I also post full gameplay commentaries if you want to see how I do it in real time. I don't cherry pick my videos for good team mates. I write out my goals for a mission, practice the loadout, play a mission, edit it together, and share it with y'all.
As to your point about assumptions, you are partially correct. I do not know the exact reason G2 followed me for this entire mission, but I can safely assume its because they considered it to be a good idea. D4 and K3 spent most of the game doing their own thing, so I just followed them and took out anything I could. Since G2 was following me, this lead to the team sticking together. Sometimes I am the one holding the leash, and sometimes I'm the one wearing it. The result is still the same, getting your team to stick together and support each other.
I've found that in the new swamp biome the eagle airstrike is unreliable at best. Eagle 1 has been taking out a lot of trees, not so many fabricators.
how would you possibly know? the new swamp biome is only on one bug planet that I know of. not the automatons

I'd add that this also affects spear which often hits those trees too if they are in the way (assuming you even manage to lock on due to said trees in the way).
Try the strafe run, it is wildly underrated

Also worthy to note, the HMG emplacement is also a hell of an anti air weapon.

The moment I first saw the Spear, I was in love with the weapon… so was kinda disappointed about it not locking on properly… now that it’s fixed though, yea, can attest that it’s the GREATEST feeling to clear the skies of those gunships, and have everyone on the team give the “Thank You” prompt 😁
I was just trying to figure out the last stratagem on my spear build just like this. Was thinking a needed some crowd control so we will give the gas strike a shot!
I also didn’t know the rocket turret will take down gun ships so I might switch from the auto cannon turret. On the bugs the auto turret is great for taking out shrieker nests.
Try the orbital gatling brother. I use it with Servoassisted (helps your others stratagems) , and It can take down FACTORY STRIDERS on its own (after i destroy the turret with spear so it wont insta kill any ally). The cooldown is so low that it starts counting even when its being used, so its like 40s real cooldown. Its even faster than gas
Been in dives with players like you Kai and it makes life so easy
When teams break off and go off in duo's its doable but not ideal to sustain combat . It always falls apart, and people just quit the mission will be trying this loadout for sure.

Running duos is definitely for guerilla tactics, dont have enough bullets for assaults
@@Michaelfirefoxx My friends and I typically run a 3-1 on most missions, I'm usually the guy running by himself, but that doesn't mean I'm some kind of lone wolf or anything, we are helping each other in a way by clearing POI's and bases/nests or softening the main objectives for our allies to attack, simply drawing bot/bug call-ins is a boon greater than any weapon could provide because less enemies on one groups doorstep is less need for more firepower.
I love the fluidity of team play you use, the load out being used to HELP THE TEAM instead of just being an OP solo pusher , the coverage and even the explanations you give on why you play the way you do.
Some of the stuff you showed are things I already try to incorporate (if everyone has an auto cannon or spear , I’m picking a loadout to clear out hordes and vice versa)
Diversity in loadouts w/ effective team play where everyone plays their role (horde control or anti-armor) while focusing objectives makes any squad unstoppable.
Just adding on cause I’m near the end of the video, I LOVE the energy you are giving and subscribed just now cause of it, especially you emphasizing that “people will follow you if you show through your actions you’re a good team player” cause it shows you truly understand how leadership works and again it’s just another thing I try to live by while running this game just cause of the way I was raised on what a leader should be. It’s funny a game like this can show or bring out the leadership traits in a person and I can tell you’re a great squad leader/member to have when helldiving 💪🏽

I sometimes like to take both the autocannon and rocket sentry. While its fine to throw both out, alternating one down at a time is pretty good at keeping a turret online more often than not. Just need the turret discipline which is something I'm working on
I hit the subscribe button the second I heard about someone else keeping their team safe with the spear. My squad never complains when I call in the supply on myself to launch 20 rockets against in their defense

The ragdolling is so bad on bots, especially with the democracy protects armours. I can't tell you the number of times I've been stuck in the sky and can't get out

Need more videos exploring squad-synergy. So many Rambos out there. The only thing more bad ass than being able to hold your own is coordinating with your teammates.
Funny enough, I didnt have the same loadout, but that has been my mindset with the spear; Protect the team. Actually got a lot of praise last game, and man does it feel good to know I protected my fellow Helldivers. Glad to see this video, going to try out the gas strike and plasma punisher

I look forward to the "clan" (hope that is not the official name for it just sounds bad) type system to know you can call upon reliable teammates, but that's only a rumor and videos like this help us who join up with shy and/or no mic players more often than not this helps shepherd them and getting folks to work as a unit with or without verbal tactical coordination.

This is really helpful as someone who usually fights on the bot front. By any chance, can you make one for the Recoilless Rifle if you haven't already? It's just as good as the spear for taking down targets if you can aim properly.
I agree the ammo economy for the recoilless is much better, not being limited to specific targets has saved me and teammates more than once. Splitting up the reload when you need to be on the move is also a huge plus for the recoilless.
Lass Lazer is better for gunships in my opinion it's good on ammo just don't over charge it and it takes out gunships in 3-5 seconds hitting it in the thrusters but it can't take down drop ships
I do love bringing the RR on bots. Much easier to one shot hulks, and works pretty good for tanks and gunships
I do already have a RR vid against the bots, but it is on the old patch. It's a weapon I like running though, so I'll use it again in the future!

My current fav load out is HMG + supply pack + napalm eagle strike + orbital gas strike. Glad to see some more respect going to the gas strike!! I get to keep an endless spray of bullets going forward and then any enemy dumb enough to follow from behind has to trudge through a sea of fire and acid. 10/10 would recommend.
As an accurate autocannon user I love this video. Similar thinking about being a team player and protecting others. I salute you Sir! 💪
Hey bro I've been trying this loadout and it's been coming in clutch alot.
It's honestly whatever loadout you want, but try out the deployable fortification shield+ the HMG emplacement deployable. It comes in very handy when you get redeployed without any support weapons. Especially since the cool down is amazingly short. Place both down and you can mow down 70% - 100% of a bot drop if you know how to target weakpoints. The only thing it doesn't do good against is tanks, but that's up to you to decide how to deal with it. Rocketpods, spear, lazer, etc. Devote 2 of your strategem slots for the shield+HMGemplacement and lmk what you think. The shield by itself can cover you and your team alot in open snow maps
Damn really cool to see you have almost the same amount of views as the current player base, maybe im wrong but I feel like its cause most of us are here for the long run now lol, legit have no time for any other games cause of battlepass bs and how grindy they are this one is perfect for me for a live service don't gotta worry about missing out on stuff i paid for cause i didn't have time to play and i feel its a lot of people like me that are still here cause we all still got other shit todo. I just love the different difficulty level, they enable a lot of gameplay, from chill to arcade to solo to hardcore to straight up hell. Just do your thing, cooperate, work as a team or solo, there just nothing like helldivers.
The thing about helldivers and team play is that it is not required at all. You can do just fine with four people just doing their own thing.
That however does not mean teamplay is bad. In fact it is the only way to push you combat effectiveness to the next level. Specialized loadouts and covering each others weaknesses can make a semi competent squad into a freedom dispenser fit for the super earth special forces command, and make the game infinitely more enjoyable all the while

To conserve spear ammo, you could swap the plas punisher for the scorcher, scorcher makes shooting down gunships kind of trivial and lets you save missiles for tanks/hulks/fabricators

I've been taking it every mission since the update and can't get over how much I love it. Honestly this whole build is kind of what I do, but I haven't used the plasma punisher or the gas strike. Really like your content, keep it up!

mg support and Spear formation should be more common. As long as you keep the freedom loving homing missiles stocked there is nothing that can stop the might of the helldivers!

2 things I've found get your teammates to do what you want your Level and whether or not you look like you know what your doing I found if you know what your doing the team tends to follow you around like a bunch of stray puppies you just fed.
even as an exclusively solo player, its fun to see that there are people that put so much thought to playing as a team

Great vid! I use the airburst launcher for termanids turns you into a one man QRF if you use right no trash left your team can focus on objectives or big boys!

This is my load put PP/Spear. Rocket Sentry too. But I ad gatling Orbital and AC sentry as well. What makes it such a good team loadout is ironically that it handles everything the way a solo build would need to. No matter what situation you find yourself in, you have an answer.
I find myself playing the way you do. I play 99.99% random pickup games and I go in to it thinking "ok guys get us in trouble and I will try to get us out."
I've been using spear + plasma for a week now or so, and just a tip that there is super destroyer upgrade that lets you get 3 instead of 2 rockets from resupply for spear (all the backup ammo for any support weapon)
@commissarKai Ran a few missions with you last week, then found this video today! Cool to see you actually play team-focused in game, not just talk about it.
BTW ran the gas on the new biome (Endor looking one) and rocked it. Most kills, zero deaths 💪.
I suggest trying the EMS mortar in lieu of rocket. You lose offensive capability but gain a TON of area control, with added benefit of locking down bot packs for gas strikes.

I usually run the spear because it not only is great with gunships, but it can also take turrets out half way across the map, and fabricators.
I run the Eruptor for its great damage, along with the Senator for taking down the smaller units.
Almost spit out my food when you said the name of your ship. It's the same one I have! 😆
My personally preferred loadout is Sickle or Incendiary breaker (for Bots or Bugs), and either the new shotgun pistol or grenade pistol, depending on what I'm feeling, and for strats, I love the 380HE, the Rail Cannon, and either the gatling barrage or the precision strike, and the Spear, EAT, Cluster rocket, or AMR.
In most command bunker missions, it isn't too uncommon for my team to run the side objectives and POI's while I rush the bunkers and larger bases.
On other missions, I will usually be the one to open an engagement against bases and nests or close a corridor against attack while we're at extract or in a tight spot.

Excellent tips, CommissarKai. With the increasing presence of gunship patrols, it seems essential to include at least one Spear in every squad. While many players dislike the addition of gunship patrols, I believe it's a strategic move by Arrowhead, especially since the Spear's targeting was fixed. Changes like this make specialized roles more viable and necessary.
Not really. Laser cannon and/or AC/rocket sentry can easily take out those patrols (try to get the patrol aggroed on you so the sentry has free reign on those fliers. Getting aggro first also helps you wipe out normal patrols with ease if you throw the turret off to the side.)

I love being the teammate with the tools to take down the biggest threats quickly, but I have been struggling with figuring out a good loadout against the bots. I am going to be such a big bot menace with this now. TY!
Give yourself some time to learn the ranges of the spear. It can be frustrating taking two shots to take down a hulk, but if you hit them from the right range, it should hit their eye and take them out in one hit. If they're facing away from you, one spear rocket to the back always takes them out as well. Happy hunting helldiver o7
I like the purifier with spear as guardian angel. Really extends the range of the group stun lock
I gotta say I'm very impressed with the rocket sentry now. Yesterday I threw it right before a drop and I watched it single handedly take out a double drop of bots AND a 5 gunship patrol all happening at the same time. It just landed at the perfect moment in the drop that it only wasted 1 rocket on the drop ship and took everything else out. It was incredible. That being said does anyone know the sentry ranges? It seems the auto cannon has a super short range now? I thought all of the gun sentrys were 75 meters? Are they each different now?

9:50 that spear shot does actually appear to take out the tank, I think the explosion after the laser is just the second explosion that tanks do. I may be wrong though
I use the GAURDIAN, KNIGHT and HOPLITE technic.
GAURDIAN: focus on the big enemies with above lvl 5 armour penetration. Spear, quasar and rocket launchers. With other stratagems you use a cluster controle. napalm, cluster airstrike and orbital like EMS, gas and laser.
KNIGHT: comes in pairs of two. They use crowdcontrol weapons as strategem
Airburst rockets, autocannons, flametrowers, machineguns, railguns, AM. rifle railgun, lasercannon and grenade launcher. Use of the orbital railcannon is a pre. Eagles as 110 rockets, airstrike and 500 kg are usefull. Orbitals like 120 and 380 and gatteling usefull on 12 minutes missions.
HOPLITE:
use of defensive stratagems are his main part. Like using sentries and exosuits both also KNIGHTS and HOPLITE can use also the defensive backpack as guard dogs. But i prefere HOPLITE above KNIGHT. Ballistic shields and shield generators are his part. He also can throw in also for his fellow helldivers. He is the shield of the team.
This is what I run against bots, except I’ve been taking orbital gattling and auto cannon sentry over gas strike and rocket sentry. I’ll have to give those a shot!
TIP: you can mark enemies and patrols with the ping button and people can say affirmative or negative an it will be marked that they will take that enemy or ignore and use concealment.
Thank you for mentioning this! I was not sure how to do the "negative, not engaging" ping, and it was driving me a little crazy.

Stratagem baubles can also be thrown into fabricator vents, it'll target inside the fab and destroy it, if you don't have something better ready, you can use a supply, turret or shield to destroy a fab through the vents
Loving the team play guides! Nice run. Is there anything you focus on when soloing to improve your general game play?
Also, when making a video like this, some discussion of alternate tools that less experienced Helldivers might have available would be cool. For example, for Helldivers who haven't unlocked the Spear yet, a couple sentences on which support strat you recommend that they might have? At least for the vids with scripted voice overs.

4:33 going as a unit is always good, this should be golden standard especially if you're someone who can't handle a lot of enemies alone, there's a limit to how many times a solo person in a public lobby can die, at least a unspoken limit imo .. if they die 4 to 5 times in a row they're better off sticking with the group.
Speaking of teamwork and lack of voice communication, if I join a squad and someone shouts out a plan, I immediately follow that plan because it’s better than 4 randos kind of meandering around the map wondering if we’re going to hit each POI.
But since this mornings update I’m going for a full clear with all samples.
Tip: tag enemies first, it'll make locking on with the spear a lot easier
