Used the AR-15 as personal arm during my National Service in 1970s. Few people would remember that there was a heavy barrel version (AR-15 HB) for sustained auto fire, used as a section support weapon way before the Ultimax SAW came along. I swear that the AR-15 had never jammed on me during my 2 1/2 years in NS. Also used the Car-15 (carbine version) during my days as an armoured combat engineer. The M-16 and ultimax only came along during my reservist training a decade later.
Wah didnt know that SAF carried Car-15 too!
Vietnam-era weapons, but still extremely reliable.
@@aliasgar4673they still do.
@@ArmyK9 Vietnam-era M16s are not reliable at all!
Good times. I was trained on the SAR21 during BMT but was issued the M16 in my unit. My training rifle was an M16 but my issued rifle was and AR-15 with no forward assist. Some of us had the bird cage flash hider and some had the three pronged Vietnam era flash hider. I preferred the M16 over the SAR21 because it was lighter and easier to clean.
Was in shock when issued M16 in unit during 2018-19. Night shoots were a nightmare with it compared to SAR21.
I prefer M16 somehow… was trained on AR15 during my NCC days in secondary school, so M16 is every way familiar …
Very cool. From a former Royal Australian Navy gunnery sailor.
Just so you know Singapore's first standard issue rifle was the British SLR.
Aussie boy hi there
Thank you for your support.
Had been live firing AR-15, M16, SAW, GPMG, M203 riffle, also live firing in overseas for M71 and FH88 155 howitzer all in 33 years ago.
I was one of the last batches of NSF to use the M16 during BMT (2006), and then transitioned to the SAR-21 in my SISPEC days. Yes, the SAR-21's scope made normal range day easy-mode, but there is something more satisfying about hitting targets with well-zeroed iron sights. And to be honest, I HATE doing IA drills with the SAR-21 due to the bullpup design as I have to push the rifle forward more to look into the ejection port, whereas the M16 only needed a quick-tilt to the side for me to see inside while I can continue to work the charging handle to clear stoppages.
What you said was easy. The worse is trying to lock the bolt to the rear to clear double feed while in prone! Awkward and super bad ergonomics as fuck. SAR-21's weapon manipulation and ergonomics is the worse in the world.
was in the first batch bmt using sar 21 back in 2008, remember the first batch the laser sight have a flower like cover
I have fired M16S1 , SAR80 , SAR21 , Ultimax SAW , Matador throughout my national service , only didn't fire GPMG or the M203.
SAR21 firing mechanism is similar to the M16S1
You remember LAW and 84mm ?
@@kwangfeilui9704 I fired matador, LAW was before my time , was supposed to be in the 84mm but was phased out during my ICT. I enlisted 2002 , finished ICT in 2018
What about Glock, MP5 and P90? I saw some SAF personals firing it in other videos on YT.
@@bhchen3079 Haha I've fired the SAR21, M203, Ultimax 100, GPMG, Matador, CIS 50, 40mm AGL, 25 mm bushmaster chaingun 30 mm bushmaster chaingun, threw Hand grenade and smoke grenade, Bangalore torpedo, claymore. Guess what vocation I'm from? Only 1 vocation in the Army trained in so many weapons.
@@youtuberschannel12ADF bro haha...
I remember in the Amoy Quee armskote, we had a few Lee Enfields , like those used by Istana guards
Those are parade rifle. Lee Enfield is a WW1 rifle!
well the m-16, was used in several militaries, like the USA, during Vietnam war, south korea and so on.
My M16 issued to me at Khatib camp was made by Colt, with the Colt markings and without the forward assist.
That would be an M16 lower with a AR15 upper.
;)
@@lyricaldistributionsupport3280Or also could be a Colt 604 from old USAF inventory.
@@lyricaldistributionsupport3280 It's the original M16. The original doesn't have the forward assist.
Love the M16 but always IA and had to deal with rust after outfield. SAR is shorter for easy manoeuvre but also heavier
Singapore Combat Engineer, pioneer 6 here. Trained in both rifles. The SAR21 definitely had better aim but i love my old wife 16 and SAW 100 better.
Where SAR-80?! It was nice and extremely interesting rifle!
neat rifle, it's like a steyr aug and fnc + akm had a baby
Trained in AR-15 and carbine variant of it. Navy still uses AR-15.
Baik lahh encik Wandi
about SR-88A
When is the BR18 expected to enter service?
I thought they gonna brought up the SAR-80 and SR-88. I don't know how many of those rifles are in the hands of Singaporean Army
The SAR-80/88 was a PITA and quickly relegated to minimal service support units. Only saw very few of them in use.
I've fired the SAR21, M203, Ultimax 100, GPMG, Matador, CIS 50, 40mm AGL, 25 mm bushmaster chaingun 30 mm bushmaster chaingun, threw Hand grenade and smoke grenade, Bangalore torpedo, claymore. Guess what vocation I'm from? Only 1 vocation in the Army trained in so many weapons.
I still prefer the M4 rifle better, my go-to primary weapon each time every time. High accuracy, moderate recoil, perfect for short bursts. That’s how I achieve my top frags killer when I play CSGO.
Good for these two soldiers also la, gotta admit I’m impressed with their strip and assembly timing. But come 1v1 on knife round see who’s better. Put place and time.
waittt U need to switch between safe and fire multiple times for M16 function check?
It all depends on what you want out of the function check.
Weapon on safe
Pull the trigger, hold
Weapon should not fire
Weapon on semi
Pull the trigger hold
Should hear a click
Charge the weapon without releasing the trigger
Release the trigger, should hear a clunk
Weapon on Burst
Pull the trigger, hold
Charge the weapon three times without releasing the trigger
Release the trigger, should hear a clunk
is what USMC taught me on M16A4 (which has burst instead of auto).
I don't know what the Singaporeans would do, anyways we never timed function checks, we did those carefully. When we time assemblies/disassemblies for fun we don't do function checks as part of the time.
No idea what the SAR-21 function check is like but either way, it should be pretty similar. I think the man just kinda forgot a bit after all those years.
@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 For us the SAR21 assembly the fuction check is included in the time for how we are trained, I nvr trained on the M16 in the army tho i have shot a A2
I see, fascinating. I love the whimsical little differences between how militaries do things@@bryanloh7355
is Singapore never try the AK-101?
M16 still the best U.S army, USMC, USN and USAF still use it till now.
yeah but they use the more modern a4 variant
that their problem ah sia
Pull the left side of M16 cocking handle also can.
not the old 1 as shown in the video.... You need 2 fingers for this version.
I would rather use the AR over SAR any day 😂😅
Totally agree. SAR was a piece of crap.
Why?
@@tanhy1522 I prefer the m16 or AR too, it is much lighter and more balanced
@@lyricaldistributionsupport3280 Agree SAR-21 is shit. So heavy and bad weapon manipulation and ergonomics. Trigger is shitty as hell.
@@marktay7913 Agree SAR-21 is shit. So heavy and bad weapon manipulation and ergonomics. Trigger is shitty as hell.
Oh, my ex-wife! She was my sweet 16...
AR15 was before M16.
No problem encik
Why SAF don't use m4? This weapon saf 21 is heavy
A lot of documents to change the whole rifle system.
Agree
@@SmallCatHimself M4 is closer to the M16. SAR-21 is a complete new weapon system. Should have switched to M4 instead of developing the SAR-21. Now armies who are using bullpups are reverting back to conventional style. Bull-pups are falling out of favour.
Where the SLR. Just rewriting history 😅
the soldier who had used it was unable to appear for the video
@@yiming99 lol. Spicy memes.
Encik, you are out of touch. Us old servicemen can do under 20 sec. I was an ex regular navy man, the AR15 was my main weapon we used to defend the base and ships.😅
Lol, my hands and arms are so short, can't press the SAR21 butt into my shoulder/chest due to the bullpup design causing the rifle to be inaccurate during firing. Annoying design...Terrible gun for people with short arms... Reloading is also a problem, how to reload this gun without pointing the gun upwards.
Exactly, the length of pull is too long. The people who designed this weapon are obviously civilians without military experience. They never account for the thickness of the LBV and when shouldered over the LBV, the length of pull is too long. You're right about reloading. It's the worse to reload when in prone position. The gun so heavy and the length of pull is so long. You have to hold up the whole rifle with 1 hand when reloading in the prone position.
Nice. But encik, cock AR-15 must use thumb and index finger leh. 😂
Where got use thumb one? Just index and your middle finger. You got use before or not?
@@youtuberschannel12 During BMT we were told to use thumb and index finger not index and middle fingers like in the movies.
But mp-40 war proven good
Is this a message new young male civillians and older middle age NSMen reserve soldiers have to turn out mobilize to fight incoming CCP and Russian amphibious troops.
What cock you talking?
Alamak encik, susa lah. Last time we blindfold also can strip M16 under 25 seconds. Assembly lagi fasterer. How can Encik lose to new bird and have to belanja makan? No respect sial.
M16 takes longer to strip + Encik too long never strip liao mah.
No3. So slow.
Both guns are a joke. When will we start using a modular platform? Like the M4a1
A weapon is deadly if the user knows how to operate and maintains it well , it doesn't matter if it's a WW2 rifle or an advanced rifle
BR-18
@@bhchen3079 ok you use a bolt action iron sights to for UO
Since M16S1 is part of the AR-15 family. The Singaporean Army can purchase a bunch of M4 or any other flat top upper receiver and replace the butt stock with a collapsible one.
I don't know about you, but I don't hold the M4 as the pinnacle of AR-15. That title belongs to HK-416, LMT MARS-L and Canadian C7/C8
@@rizaradri316 HK416 causes tons and tons and tons of problems. MARS-L is quite nice, and the monolithic Colt Canada C8s are quite nice. I can go into more detail on the hK416 if you want, but in USMC that weapon causes nothing but trouble, it's heavier than all its competitors. It only became popular because it was one of the very first free floated fully railed rifles available.
M27s entered USMC service at like 650rpm on full auto
M27s and M38s, now, have a 1400rpm rate of fire when suppressed and using the service ammo (M855A1), weigh as much as XM7, and are mathematically proven to be the least reliable rifle ever fielded by the US Marine Corps, with a mean rounds between failure of 40ish in the M38 tests. That's a failure in every mag!
I can find videos on youtube, like six of them, of suppressed M27s misfiring, and when charged they spit out an unfired live round and just kinda start working again. Totally unacceptable. A bizarre weapon that is almost perfect in vague details but, in specifics, is terrible.
