I remembered these group of defiant NSF was still being rude to him until my Encik shouted '" you all lucky to be born young, thats why I treat you like my own sons, my own childrens because I dont have any children. I pamper you all too much is it? Everytime problem, I cover your backside and close one eye. Now kena sign extra also want ask me for help?! I really worry for you all later after you ord and go out to the society. Everything negative things cannot accept." Yea, i've seen a few encik in that situation. I've got a couple of cousins and relatives who are in the force or were ex-regulars too also in the same predicament.
However i've also met quite a number of ex-regulars who are doing civilian jobs now and they're not doing well. Mostly jumping into the civilian world is a downgrade. We're not like the US where your skillsets in the military is valued in the civilian world. Over here most that leave the force have to re-skill and work their way up again..
The only exceptions are high flyers in the force. The gov takes care of them. My CO, 2IC, OC are examples of that, one even became an MP lol. Also my classmate found his calling in the military and managed to fly in the army, basically riding the escalator up, his future is secured.

My batch / course mates from NSF who have signed on are all in this almost 40 age where they are neither here nor there. 10 more years to retirement and maybe 1 more promotion left but get a retirement payout, or leave now when you're younger and it's easier to find a job... tough.

I think this highlights an important point - what to do after army? Say you get injured and downgraded as a regular. What next? I think SAF needs to think about the future of its regulars, post service. They deserve a bright and dignified future with real commercial skills and experience, as well as training to handle civilian working styles.

they are being upgraded thru educational certs & practical training. Even the infantry encik told me they are sent for Business Management course and other civillian related courses apart from getting their diploma. But the thing is not every Encik are able to complete the education they are being sent for, due to the fact that its been a while since they open books. Luckily SAF adopts this downgrade and revocate system, in for example the US u get injured, u get medically discharged after a few months and ur life depends on the VA. However much more can be done, i know treatment and physio all being handled by SAF even after discharged but definitely the education part can be improved. Helps them to transition better.

This is true for most armies in the world. An officer is a young person who will command large groups of people, but the actual leadership occurs from the senior NCOs because they have been in the military for 20-30 years in the same role, whereas officers move from one role/posting to the next. I have seen this happen a lot during my NS in the Greek Army. In every battalion I served in, the NCOs did all the work. The officers set the tone, but the officer must respect the experience of the NCOs if he/she wants to have the NCOs follow him/her and not face challenges to authority.

Everyone has a part to play in an organisation and no role is too minute. But if you have a bigger aspiration to fulfil, just leave. Don't blame the service for everything. I guess this is the underlying message of the video. :)

This short firm was well filmed. So realistic like what’s happening in the reality. All I can say is our military is ungrateful and dispensable. I see it with my own eyes. I was once very on the ball and hardworking. Guess I didn’t stay was the right choice. Keep up the good work for more future short films and making them as realistic as possible.

Warrant officer in a cushy job. Own time, own target can self declare off. I don't understand what's not to like. Even if he's downgraded, and reduction in benefits, vocation pay is still on par with private sector. As a hawker, long hours, fussy customers. 4x the effort to make the same amount of pay as a 2WO. If I'm "O"Level holder, die die will stay in SAF. I served in the Navy for 9 years. And there's not a day I did not regret leaving the service. I would never leave even when downgraded. Still a job that pays, swallow your pride and stay on for the gratuity payment.

tbh, nowadays despite the glamor where services try to get personal to sign on, after a while these ppl will realized that even officers can get reassigned to ME ranks as long as their appointment is not meant for an officer. this is what happens when an organization gets too top heavy.

really nice movie which illustrates the problems that our regulars may face or might be facing.
    however few mistakes:
    1) Only overseas badges are placed above the name ( on the right hand side of the uniform) so the taekwondo and the diving badge shouldnt be there
    2) his collar badge is actually a Sniper Marksman badge which should fall on the left sleeve below his ranger and above his ippt. The collar badge should have his vocation.

@@gemasboy the collar badge is for vocation. The one in the vid is a marksmanship badge. Marksmanship badges are not pinned on the collar
