Lauren actually just survived an abusive toxic relationship with an addict...so it makes sense that she wanted Hedi to create the boundaries with spencer that she couldn’t and wished she had with Jason.

This is Spencer’s whole schtick:
Treats Heidi poorly, Heidi is sad, her friends don’t like him because he hurt their friend, Spencer gaslights Heidi, “well if I didn’t really like you i wouldn’t be having this conversation with you, Heidi. I’m team Heidi, team Heidi...” and then Heidi falls for it but Lauren doesn’t, his ego is bruised so he tries to gaslight Lauren at the club and it doesn’t work on her so he’s pissed. He turns around and 100% gaslights his BEST FRIEND Brody. He knew what Brody was talking about with the whole audrina-Heidi flowers and pink berry incident yet he spins it to Brody that LAUREN is the one who misunderstood a completely different flower scenario so it’s Lauren’s fault and she’s the crazy one. He’s toxic, he’s manipulative, he sees Heidi not as a partner but as a prize to win and/or steal away from someone else. He doesn’t 100% want her but he won’t let her go so she can move on. He’s a NARCISSIST. Classic narcissist.
Meanwhile Heidi is mistaking all of Spencer’s scheming efforts as passion instead of manipulation
you do realize that the show was soft scripted. meaning he was truly a villain and did and said things the producers wanted him to, for more money. he literally has said all of this in a special with E!

The moment Lauren said “Me and Heidis friendship is fine, you don’t ever need to worry about that”. Was the moment Spencer literally decided to break it up. You can tell because as soon as Lauren walked away Spencer’s rubs his hands together as if he were the grinches and just hatched a plan. Wow it was so obvious of his intentions.
He knew it was Lauren's show, he needed Heidi alone to be on the show.

Watching this as an adult it's shocking how blatantly abusive Spencer is. In this episode...isolating Heidi from her friends, and later from her family...actually a bit difficult to watch!
It’s really hard to watch I only binge the first season of the hills and skip over this horrible abuse storyline throughout this season and to where Lo comes on the show

@@shaeelynnn87 I've thought the same thing. Spencer enjoyed the villain role and admits to enjoying it. If he was truly like this then he had to weed out everyone in Heidi's life because there wasn't enough room for his ego.
He always seems so fake. Never genuine. Even now watching the new beginnings seasons he doesn’t seem like he knows how to be himself or have real moments with Heidi.
That was my impression then - not my impression looking back. Spencer isolated himself from his own friendships, Brody thought he was the dumbest person in the world for getting married so young. Spencer and Heidi are very similar, they both want a codependent, deep relationship and chose that over having close friendships.
Heidi did the ultimate shitty move here. She was all keen for Lauren to say bad things about Spencer when it suited her, when she was upset and angry. Heidi was immature and made a massive deal out of bitching about Audrina and how supposedly terrible it was that she was involved with Spencer behind her back. And then she got back together and realised that things can’t be unsaid. Even worse, she repeated those things to Spencer. Girl code: those feelings that Lauren told Heidi about Spencer should have remained between the two of them. By telling Spencer everything she pitted them against each other. Lauren was left in an impossible situation, especially since Spencer’s attitude was so confrontational instead of acknowledging why she was concerned about Heidi and making an effort to smooth things over
I agree that Heidi didn't make the best choices, that being said, neither did Lauren. If H was truly her best friend, L made all the wrong moves. There was multiple times that their friendship could have been saved, and every single time Lauren chose her pride.
@@chelsied.8691 I think once the sex tape rumour was spread, Lauren was never going to be friends with Heidi as long as she was with Spencer and I don’t blame her. In reality, they’d been friends for a couple of years at this point. That’s hardly a life time. In addition, Heidi has admitted that after a couple of seasons of The Hills she was changing and living a lavish lifestyle, splashing the cash everywhere etc. Lauren never really seemed to do that. Once you start to have different priorities, you grow apart anyway. I’d imagine that it wasn’t long before Lauren realised that the friendship wasn’t as special as she thought it was.

I’m so happy to have found Timmy and Whitney. After a million days of quarantine, I’ve been binge watching, The Hills reaction and The City. It’s been so fun to reminisce and hear the back stories.
Same! Im on day 9 of covid and this has been my happiness.
Truly the best part of my 2020 quarantine binges. I haven’t laughed this hard in a while.
The only positive to come out of 2020..... facts
It’s sad that Heidi had the strength to walk away from Jordan because he wasn’t treating her right but managed to forgive Spencer repeatedly & wouldn’t stand up for herself with him. It’s sad because you know it’s just about to get worse & worse. The things he did to Heidi’s sister, the things he said about Heidi’s Mom & Heidi just sat back & let it happen. He literally alienated her from everyone at one including her family. This time period of the Hills is just sad.
This is Timmy. If the show gets too dark, we might switch to something else. This is supposed to be fun. I know Spencer does some messed up stuff down the road, but we are watching as if for the first time bc we aren't super fans who remember each detail. Not calling you a super fan or using that term pejoratively.

I am sure you and Whitney will put a positive spin on the dark things that do happen, whether it be a hilarious, tongue in cheek jab at the cheesiness or just directing to the fact that certain scenes are clearly directed or pushed into a direction. You two are so down to earth and it’s such a great mix having two chill, mature people react to such an immature show that we all loved at that immature age. He was so toxic and such a manipulator and it’s so much harm to Heidi‘s relationships with her family with her friends he alienated her from everyone so he could be the only one that she could turn to. I know it’s a reality show but it seems so real
I have so much sympathy for Lauren. I think Lauren is being like that because of the trauma and hurt she went through in her last relationship and she doesn't want that for her friend ♡

So it was ok for Lauren to live and learn and make her own mistakes, but she had the right to belittle Heidi and force Heidi to choose between her and Spencer? Lauren was just a jerk off lol.
Honest thought on Heidi/Spencer. Toxic relationship 101 when insecurity attracts manipulation. Sadly it is half of my client base as a counselor. They wanted to jump on Lauren, but Lauren had been in it herself which is why she was so passionate about getting her away from him. When you've been in it and through it, you see it quickly. That goes for anyone that has been through a type of trauma. I can say the same for my own self and in being a counselor who people come to on their healing journeys I have properly learned to approach these situations, yet everyday friends just trying to help usually go about it in a way that is not helpful. All in all, we all gotta learn our lessons and usually it is the tough way.
What would you say is the best way to go about things? I’m going through a similar situation with a friend and I find it hard to bite my tongue and not say anything negative when she tells me they are back together again and again

In regards to approach it is hard to contain emotions, but it's important to make peace with the fact that as much as you want to save your friend from pain, she is going to need to learn this lesson on her own. You can only control you and how you choose to support her. Supporting her in this instance may look like taking a step back in some instances. Pressure does not work regardless if the person knows you are right or not. It's fight or flight response always. They will usually fight until they come to terms with the situation. Some come to terms quickly, but for most it can sadly take years, a few kids, and a messy divorce to finally see the red flags that were present from the beginning.
Usually, people in these circumstances are dealing with high insecurity, and though they know deep down the partner is not right they are now engrained to stay.
They can stay for multiple reasons from the manipulation, thinking they can love the person enough to change them, etc, but usually it's a deeper issue from childhood or adolescence of not feeling loved enough or going through a similar circumstance with a guardian or parent. She needs to want to come out from underneath that and get assistance in doing so.
I don't know the full scope of things and her partner, but usually the cases are always identical in regards to approach. All you can do is make a choice on how you're going to love your friend. And sometimes loving them means setting boundaries for ourselves and allowing them the room to experience what we don't want them to in tough situations.
Now if he's being physically abusive, an intervention needs to happen. And sometimes even an intervention needs to happen if the psychological abuse is taking a big turn for the worst. But if it's not at the point from what you can see, then remain as neutral as possible while encouraging her to know her worth.
Continue to encourage friend time, and encourage her to find her passions and hobbies that inspire her to want more out of life. Usually that is lost in relationships like this, but when it's regained or realized, it makes that person slowly more aware of who they truly are and what they are capable of in the world. It can shake them out of the toxic mindset that has been created, leading them to want to leave the situation. Because at that point they will start wanting to take on the flight response. They will start to feel trapped and the only choice will be is to choose themselves.
I sometimes suggest friends or the close relative do a casual fun self reflective workshop or something together. Something that may plant a positive seed for the individual. Even with COVID there are still a lot of cool opportunities for online meditation, affirmation course, retreats, etc. Something that may speak to their spirit and encourage self consistency.

WOW. That "night" in the club was from 4 different nights.
- Night 1: The entrance, Heidi has a long sleeve dress. Jen Bunney has a stripe dress. Lauren's hair is wavy.
- Night 2: Inside the club, Heidi has a black top on. Lauren's hair is straight.
- Night 3: The scene with Audrina and Clint, Heidi wasn't even there that's why she says "I wish Heidi was here to see it".
- Night 4: When Lauren and Spencer are talking outside the club, Heidi has a black/white jacket. Jen Bunny doesn't have the same dress on. Lauren didn't have that coat in the entrance scene.

Spencer is textbook toxic. I think Lauren did the right thing by being honest with Heidi about what worried her. It breaks my heart that Heidi that couldn't see that but I don't think that's Lauren's fault.

There's some very interesting BTS insight & it was how I learned that when Heidi & Lauren had that argument at the end of this ep, Heidi was on her way to go to Colorado to see her mom. Think my fave part of this SODE was when Lauren confronted Spencer at the club. She’s such a girls’ girl who tried looking out for her friend. I wish Heidi would have been out the love cloud to see this at the time. Agree with your commentary in this part too. I feel like Spencer should have explained himself but he never saw himself as being in the wrong.
And furthermore he should’ve kept his hands to himself because had that been anyone else he would’ve caught hands and a beat down

Lauren was 20 yo and overprotective of her good friend. That’s like a lot of us girls when we are younger. We care because we know fuckboys when we see them, and the pain they cause.

I think what wasn't filmed and explained better was that Lauren was saying Heidi had "chosen" based on her completely not being around, never sleeping at their apartment. Sounds like Lauren felt totally abandoned after being honest about her feelings and Heidi reacted by disappearing. I don't think it was totally fair of Lauren to put that on Heidi, because when you are young and in love, you see what you want to see and ignore the rest.
Also Lauren went back with Jason after she saw him with an other girl. It wasn’t as quickly as Spence but Heidi didn’t judge her so harshly. Lauren is playing right into Spencer’s trap. Pushing Heidi right into him! Ugh!
Are we not going to pick up on the fact that the club scene was clearly filmed over a number of different nights? Lauren goes from straight hair to curly hair, she’s wearing the same outfit as what she wore for Jen Bunney’s birthday...

The scenes inside & and outside the club are two different nights edited together. If you notice, Lauren is wearing a completely different outfit & hairstyle. I think the confrontation we see between Lauren & Spencer actually happened on Jen Bunney's birthday. You can also see Jen's birthday tiara lol

Actually Lauren totally manipulated that fight... I don’t think it showed in this episode of whit & Tim but she goes back to the girls basically crying saying that spencer was yelling at her. If you watch the fight he pulls her aside to make peace for Heidi and he barely even raises his voice and she actually is the one yelling and waving her hands about aggressively ..... but she just wanted to be the victim. That to me is manipulation.

ALSO can you talk about how weird it was as a cast, acting like you guys weren’t actually famous during the filming of the show. I always thought it was an interesting producer choice to have the cast act like they didn’t have fashion lines, mag covers, tabloid cover etc in their lives during the airing of the show!
They probably didn't want it detracting from the show or being used to plug their (cast) wares.

I also don’t think theirs anything wrong with the way Lauren is acting. She doesn’t wanna sit around and enable something so negative but also said she would be there if and when it all fell apart. It’s never wrong to set boundaries and Lauren set hers. We have to remember she was also verbally abused ,manipulated and gas lighted in her last relationship. It might be bringing up past trauma and she shouldn’t have to be around anything she’s not comfortable with.

Spencer’s is only mad because she keeps confronting him on things that he technically knows is wrong but does not want to own up to. He squashes Lauren before it becomes a thing with Heidi.
The situation with Heidi and Lauren sucks. I've been in that position before. I told the truth and lost my friend because she choose the guy who treated her like crap over our friendship. The guy eventually turned her against me and she ended up marrying him. It's a tough spot to be in.
Whit! Can you talk about doing photo shoots for this hills! Like your mag covers as a group! What the photo shoot vibes were like when Lauren and Heidi were no longer friends etc.
I think for a lot of us, The Hills was the first sort of “scripted reality” show we identified with. I was really young watching and mind blown at the last scene of the final season. So, that’s maybe why we are more interested in what is “fake” (or influenced) and what is “real”. By the time Siesta Key came around we were all seasoned watchers of shows like that but The Hills really walked so all of that could run.

the show is so good. I agree with Whitney re learning how to navigate friendships when you dont like your friend's significant other. in my early 20s, i took the Lauren approach so I cant blame her. now, I kinda just let my friends make the decisions that they think are best for them, and I expect the same thing in return.

It’s so horrible when a friend is blinded by the affection she feels for a guy she really likes. I’ve gone through it, and learned to keep my mouth shut after that. But seeing this again Heidi had another side to her that Spencer brought out.
But they’re married. Heidi is exactly where she wants to be. It might not look ideal to anyone else but she is a grown up and could and still can be wherever she wants to be. 🤷🏻♀️

If you watch the extended version of the last fight they have, you can see that Heidi is packing to go to Colorado. They totally edit out any mention of Colorado to make it seem like she’s leaving because she’s mad at Lauren.

Spencer would have said or done anything to be on the TV and nothing has changed lol and Heidi turned out to be his soul mate in that regard.
The thing with Spencer is the fact he STILL brings up Lauren til this day! They were on Couples Therapy (whatever show that was again) and he brought her up. He doesn't even have to be on the same network, he's obsessed!
