In '92 I was 21 years old. Fell violently on my head. 45 lbs intracranial pressure. 8 days in coma. When i was pulled out of coma, I couldn't read. Struggled to talk. Using a fork or walking were very clutsy. About 4 years later, i was able to read and understand an entire page in less than 15 minutes. Very limited choice of avenues for my future.
Went to tractor trailer school. Light reading I could handle. I got the license but didn't get into the trade. Too long of a story.
I then went to machining school. A better choice since I've worked in shops since 18.
When I got into the trade, people would get in my face and scream at me when I asked them to repeat themselves 2 or 3 times. I struggled with processing information.
Now I'm 52 and I'm very good at problem solving in my particular skillset.
Never married, no kids. I struggled my way through this life.
People sometimes wonder why I'm not doing what everyone else does. I call it, 'wrong planet syndrome'.
I get very uncomfortable in crowds of three or more people. It's just exhausting to try to keep up with everything going on around.
I travel in my own lane, at my own pace.
In the darkest skies, the stars are best seen.
I work like a dog, eat like a king, sleep like a baby, drink like a fish and travel like a nomad because I'm free as a bird.

thankyou you sum up what I've been through, the gaslighting and dismissiveness of what we suffer, thankfully a brain injury card I have helps with the weight of poeple who have no idea.
It's pretty crazy. I've been going through this TBI for at least 4 years and I haven't gotten any of this information from the doctors. The losing control of your urination was pretty bad and boy do they not even understand anything of that.
My son has no control over that. But it only a year and a half. Hope it does get better.
I was in a motorcycle accident in 1990 (I think) where I was unconscious for several days (or so I was told as I don't remember any of it). I broke my neck in three places and tore my meniscus in my left knee. I started having problems with sleeping, change in personality, impulsive decisions that eventually led to my divorce, memory issues, vision problems, chronic headaches and migraines, depression, and other symptoms. TBI wasn't well studied then. I am now having significant trouble at work to the point that my supervisor is recommending that I look into long term disability.
Be your own boss, work from home while collecting disability. There is a lot more opportunity for disabled people than 30 years ago.
Report your mngr to Human Resources. He” lol be in traffic
Apply for SSDI -( Social Security Disability Income ) but get a good attorney because it took me 15 years,4 appeals and 3 attorneys to finally get it .. Work part time-( You can if you receive SSDI ).. Take up a hobby to help with the TBI issues,PTSD issues and Self Esteem issues.. I drive for a car dealership part time and set up my own schedule and build model cars as a hobby and both give meaning to my life and the depression,anxiety and suicidal thoughts have decreased substantially ..
I wish I had been in your care 8 years ago when I sustained a severe head injury and broken neck. The UK needs to catch up and keep up. I would have been lost without the help of a Neuropsychologist and a Neuro Occupational Therapist two and a half years after the accident. They helped enormously although I still have some issues, coordination and balance being the worst. All I ever get is they can't find anything specific to explain and it's obviously down to my injuries and they can't do anything for me. Even so, I'm still breathing and anything over and above that is a bonus. Thank you for this video, very informative and helpful. Best wishes to you.
Very similar to fibromyalgia where am I genuinely feel like I am treated like a hypochondriac still by my GP and especially my boyfriend Who will be my ex if he doesn't research the condition and start supporting me fast as my life is a terrible struggle as I am criticised for using my own disability money for food on a cleaner as there is a waiting list in Ireland for home help and it would require me to have a stick and though I find it difficult I can walk without a stick. This issue of looking ok can be handy when I job hunt as I work part-time as much as I can. I have lost numerous jobs because I wasn't able to do the work physically but I have also managed perfectly as the manageress in a couple of businesses where I'm doing mainly administrative work. I also had fibromyalgia for 10 years before it was diagnosed and I had it throughout and neck injury which thank God has now healed. Nearly every penny I have earned has gone on taxis because I don't drive and physio and massage to treat my illness. I think it's quite comical that people think I'm lazy when I'm the exact opposite. Every minute of every day is nearly a struggle. When you end up invariably treating yourself with an illness there are some serious problems with the medical establishment
Better no relationship than a bad one... 53 years old,never married,and not on a date since 2008 because I feel that no woman could deal with my TBI "quirks "-( repeating myself,memory issues,temper issues etc)...
doctor said I was 15. Helicootered to Intensive Care Unit who uograded it to 8 but the corrupt doctor deleted their file that said he was wrong about everything. 8 1/2 years in solitary confinment on a hilltop later I'm still labled a 15. I WAS ASLEEP FOR 6 MONTHS: now I've only got PTA
My son ended up with a shunt 5 month after his motorcycle accident. He was really bad. Hes been recovering slowly but even with the doctors in Memphis he still didn't get great care. Can't get rehab needed because insurance doesn't want to cover it. Its really sad. Where we live there's very little specialized care. I wish my son could have better treatments.
But my son has had urine issues since his accident and no doctors seem to care.
Something happened to me when I was young (not really sure what, possibly athletic injuries, cannabis at too young an age...). And it never went away, almost 50 years now. A little confused, anxious, out of balance, a feeling of 'unreality'. Rather than seeking treatment, I hid it, not a good call.
Traumatic brain injuries can also have inner ear disorders. This can really complicate diagnosis and recovery.
Do you know this from experience maam?
@@brad2548 yes! Inner ear controls natural equilibrium. You would be amazed at the struggle when it's gone. Good news, body can often rewire to use something else to help you out. Mine used my vision to help.
I know it from experience sir or mam I had half of my head cut open do to a brain bleed about a month ago. Left side. My left ear turned red and felt like it needed to pop similar to a airplane due to atmosphere pressure. 3 weeks in celuioutis set in to my jaw away from the actual incision. I looked like Joe Frasier after a fight back in hospital for 4 days antibiotics. Now 6 days back out if I don't rest a lot and with movement I get stabing pain in my head on either side along with pressure on right ear .scary stuff trust Me I have been shot in the head I have a titanium plate between my eyes I don't expect you to believe me but Sarah's 100% true that is a walk in the park when compared to this type of injury
This is similar to me it's extremely painful at times.

I had a bad car wreck in 1997 at age 26 and suffered multiple physical injuries including a TBI.. I was in the hospital for 26 days and physial therapy for 18 months.. I attempted several careers but could not succeed due to my TBI issues-(Special Education Teacher,Car Salesman,911 Radio Dispatcher)... After crashing and burning I attemptes to get SSDI-( Social Security Disability Income ) and it took 15 years,4 appeals and 3 attorneys to FINALLY recieve SSDI!!.. In the meantime I struggled with depression,anxiety,and suicudal thoughts at times .. Age 53 and never married and not even on a date since 2008 because I do not feel any woman could deal with my TBI "quirks"-( Repeating myself,short temper,memory issues etc).. I currently recieve SSDI and work part time driving for a car dealership... I build model cars as a hobby and have found the hobby quite beneficial for my TBI issues,PTSS issues and self esteem issues... The suicidal thoughts have subsided since recieving SSDI and taking up model car building..
I am a teacher of English. BA graduate. I feel so tired from trying to find ways to cope with all that have changed in my capacity as an optimistic, philanthropic and loving human being. I will never be me again as I struggle to find peace and joy in my immediate space. TBI symptoms are both visible and invisible . It can prove some things clinically or statistically but not everything to the collective details that brings suffering, pain and fear. I lose my faith and then gain it again. I try to live in my dreams and hope. ❤

It took me 24 years post TBI to build a somewhat comfortable life (SSDI,public assistance,Working part time driving for a car dealership and taking up model car building as a hobby)....
hit in the head by a car at 8, fractured skull but closed head. swallowed my tongue and choked to death. back in school 3 days later to warm a chair for the next ten years. failed life. 54 years ago. also had 3 or 4 concussions after. i have a small tumor in my PONS, in the brain stem. I had zero treatment period. i was UC for 11 hrs in the hospital for 2 days. when i woke i didnt have proper control of motor function. I had 2 seizures within the following year. Wow very interesting on the seizures the 2 were GM but when back in school i got in trouble for just sitting in a daze. I have thought for years my endocrine sys doesnt work right. also chronic fatigue and hi bp. been 54 years and have had severe anger issues, still do. As far as im concerned i have never healed. i was never told i had a tbi. i figured out myself when i was 46. and several years later i went through mayo clinic tbi diagnoses. I DONT BELIEVE NP. LOL. i have no acl in my right knee and missing cartilage.
Have you found a correlation of concussion and sciatic pain? What about Concussion from axial loading (superior trauma to the head by object falling on top of head) and bulging disks? Thank you for your response

Not all TBIs can be prevented by wearing a seatbelt. Being struck by another car still has a jarring effect on the brain. The head does not need to strike against anything to cause trauma. A seatbelt will not protect from whiplash and the force of the brain being thrown against the skull. Should you wear a seatbelt? Yes. Will the injury be less severe if you wear a seatbelt? Very likely. But it won’t “prevent” a head injury. I’m sure she just misspoke and she probably didn’t mean to be dismissive, but I wanted to address it, acknowledge, and validate anyone who was wearing their seatbelt and still ended up with a TBI.

I hit my head on a mental bar at work I immediately felt Nauseous weak I got chills dizzy in shocked head burning I continued to work reported yet still I worked in two days my head did not stop hurting I we t to the emergency room it was a concussion I didn’t not know that it was a concussion I heard the bones in the back of my neck I want to Thank you both because I am noticing now the loud noise the bright light the sun that did not bother me now do I look Great on the outside yet on the inside People do not know I am having more symptoms I’m noticing my concern is that I do not want people to thinking that I’m going on and on that now it’s in my head nooo it’s happening and happen to me I want you both to know that your video have spoke for me the words that I can put into words you both did sharing this story I’m Thankful and Grateful for you both ❤️❤️❤️❤️

"Mild traumatic brain injury with a score of 13-15 they are good"... ma'am, this statement is so wrong and offensive.... the score has nothing to do with the long-term prognosis.... pls note that some mild TBI ppl are not good. Even with a score of 15, you can still have a TBI with lifelong issues. .

Have a question how do I find a specialist in my area that can development a treatment plan? I was in a t-bone car accident with a direct impact in the driver door going 55MPH in Nov 2021, I continue to suffer every day and I do not have anyone assessing me ongoing, I attempted to get a referral to a concussion clinic in my medical system this year however I was automatically declined because by injury was greater than 2 years ago. I do have a diffuse axonal injury but had to to be referred outside of my medical system to a MRI w/DTI
Thank you very much for your input guys I am just recovering from a brain bleed they had to do a full craniotomy instead of just boring holes I've had a lot of different surgeries over the years I never really tough guy I'm medically knowledgeable but even this injury I was not prepared for it is by far the most serious thing I have ever had to endure if you knew my life story given the fact that I was shot in the head at Point Blank Range basically almost between my eyes I have a titanium mesh where the bullet was lodged in my sinuses that was a walk in the park compared to this I'm at the point that I don't welcome the pain but I am more worried about infection and I recommend to everyone get plenty of rest do your research on this this is very serious I ended up back in the hospital 3 weeks after surgery cellulitis set into my jaw I'm back out of the hospital now the wound is not all the way here yet it's only been about four and a half weeks it's a very scary injury and it should be taken seriously thank you for your input
When being assessed with a head injury/mTBI, why do doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and neurologists testing cannot seem to differentiate between frontal lobe damage, PCS and ADHD? I can see the frontal lobe damage on my MRI with my skull fractures, I still have PCS symptoms, doctors said my symptoms are ADHD, I don’t understand why they are misdiagnosing my mTBI🤕
What treatment do they recommend?

I’m looking for a hospital or a study for my brother who is 43 years old and now has schizophrenia from 20 plus concussions and a hypoxic TBI at 19. He has lived with my parents for the last 25 years or so and has made their life hell because he can’t function. He doesn’t take his meds. It’s gotten so bad, the local LE and a preacher put a video about him on CZcams saying horribly untrue things and causing hysteria in our hometown churches. Now his life I feel is in danger and I have gotten conservativor/gaurdianship over him. I want him in a good mental hospital that will actually help him live a better life. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. Thanks!!
Hi Brain Doctors,Im'ma from (MIT) university freshmen. I've encountered a recent incident that has left me in need some advice . I wanted to share that I recently experienced a concussion 3 days ago, and unfortunately, it has occurred again in the same right side. I'm wondering, would a sudden sideways motorbike collision with a cycle at a speed of 30 km/hr., causing a forceful movement of my torso to lurch and my head in relative (lateral flexion) in the same area of the first concussion ,can it potentially cause damage to the previously concussed neurons ? very worried since i am difficulty speaking like finding right words and articulating fluently and even slight difficulty understanding words and its been 1 month no recovery? i initially have no symptoms after the incidence like nausea or dizziness , does it cause any permanent deficits or it is just temporary ? and Does this injury lead to the diminution of a handful of neurons?

I have a problem with the criteria to measure brain injury like PTA, glasscow coma score etc. and the terms mild, moderate or severe, in no way determine a patient's long term outcomes, think about it. My friend had a severe traumatic brain injury, he works and gets by in life he does have issues but unless he said he had a brain injury no one would know. I have a mild traumatic brain injury and it has ruined my whole life, I'm unable to work and need help caring for myself. I read these case studies looking for evidence of what I experienced afte rmy head injury. I would have had a glascow score of 15 no doubt, but post injury had a phase of hypersexuality, No one knew anything about it. So I searched for my own info to show I wasn't crazy, found a case of another patient glascow coma score 15, he was hit with a piece of wood, then two weeks later he was stripping off in public and gratifying himself. So he had a mild brain injury, but would you say that's a mild outcome.
At age Thirteen ageI was tripped on the way to bus and my head hit the cement it knocked me out and I was in the hospital for weeks as I grew up I started having pain on my left side if my body and today I suffer with chronic pain all the time I was diagnosed with Central Pain Syndrome and I was on a few different meds but none of them helped I just had to learn to live with it I wanted to know if you there may be a new meds the older I get the harder it is to handle the pain

Hello, my name is Olga, april 2nd, 2023, I fell and hit my head on concrete. It is now a year later, and the neurologist can't figure out what's going on with me. during the day I have. moments where I go catatonic, headaches, I'm lightheaded (just being off) dizzy,preassure, numbness, really sharp pain going down my cortex and behind my eyes specially my right eye all these symptoms are daily.light flashes in my peripheral at times. Now I'm depressed, anxious through the roof and sort of PTSD. Sensitive to light and noise. I have feelings of falling ( drop ), and at times, I get a chill in my head, I get a feeling of floating( like when you get off the treadmill/escalator ) easily agitated. I need help, please

I have a TBI for 6 months then i had a stroke. Please help me with my concussion/TBI emergency MRI 3 times . Medications ..make me feel strange. Would you help me? Maybe try the ladies tips at the start of the video concentrating on a little bit of very gentle exercise. I had a mini stroke and I thought this 'Temple sounds' channel helped me heal nerve tissues in my eyes and face and neck. I found the Tibetan singing bowls quite healing for audio nerve pain I know it sounds strange but it was definitely part of my recovery where I would lie down and listen to this channel often. try to take it easy on yourself and recognise that it's going to take time. I would definitely incorporate thiamine vitamin B1 in your daily regimen as it repairs and regrows damaged nerves
