    I got the HD660S through Sennheiser's sound club since it was the cheapest immediate option at $20 for the first month, so I'm a bit spoiled but I might just have to get the HD58X as a gift for someone since everyone loves my HD660S. Also since sound club ended I got it half off essentially since I still had a year left to pay it off (they let you keep them since it was a beta test essentially). I'd really like to see more companies do stuff like this because it would allow me to scratch my new headphone itch easier.

      @Unbrutal_Rawr Před rokem

      I've checked the graph and subjective description over at the sonarworks website. Just about anything is going to compare favourably with that thing, even the first Beats. There's a 10dB Everest of bass bloat stretching from 45Hz all the way up to 400Hz, and there's another 8dB mountain in the most sensitive treble region of 4kHz, a region which is primarily responsible for listening fatigue and where hearing damage most commonly occurs ("the 4kHz notch"), which is why most headphones have a dip there. The treble doesn't get any better from there either. These headphones are absolutely unsuitable for listening to music, only for individual tracking at lower volumes.

    • @catinabox2670
      @catinabox2670 Před 3 lety

      Might be a bit late but here are my thoughts:
      Both are great headphones for it's price, it mostly depends on your preferences and setup, the 58x is easier to drive if you don't have a amp and have better bass than the 6xx. On the other hand, 6xx is tuned really balanced with more details and vocals. Go for the 6xx if you are planning to get a amp.
      For the dac+amp, I suggest to by them separately if it's your first amp/dac, the schiit stack (modi+magni) is a great combo and you could swap the amp more easily to try a different one (jds lab atoms, bravo tube are all decent options for starters)
      Hope this helps :)

    @Joshua Valour, just curiosity, did you ever try to EQ the 58X? For example using Oratory1990's setting? It improves the treble, cymbals are more alive.
    I wonder if this EQ makes the 58X and 660S even closer.

    • @jamesbittle469
      @jamesbittle469 Před 4 lety +1

      No. The HD660 is noticeably better in detail retrieval regardless of how you eq the 58X. Josh is correct about the overall sound signature, but he overlooked the biggest difference between the 58X, 6XX, and 660s-detail retrieval. I own all three, and the differences are easy to discern. Of course, if one is not interested in listening for the finer nuances of detail (or if you are using something other than Flac/Tidal etc.) just buy the 58X and enjoy. It's pretty great.

    • @Minon157
      @Minon157 Před 4 lety +2

      @@jamesbittle469 this is polemical, for example Josh said its 95% similar. I hear this talk about detail differences in all forums, some say there is none, some say its a small improvement, some say its a big leap. Since there isn't a very clear position I assume the difference in detail is not that big, as you said you need to listen to the small nuances.
      Personally I don't believe in FLAC nor Tidal, I never heard any difference, what I believe is mastering of a song. Different masters for the same album will sound different, some have small nuances others are completely different, but I never heard any difference from FLAC to MP3 if both had the same master.
      Even using Pono, even using the Elear or the LCD-2 from class A amps and good dacs, so I think staying with the 58X might be a better investment to me and in the future it should be better to try a new sound response or something more different than the Sennheiser sound.

    • @jamesbittle469
      @jamesbittle469 Před 4 lety

      @@Minon157 Anyone who says there isn't a difference is either not paying attention (and no one says you have to, it's definitely cool just to enjoy the music), or not able to due to limitations in source material or hearing. I can discern a clear difference in Spotify and Tidal so I use Tidal. You should definitely go with the 58X; it's a great pair of headphones!

      @@jamesbittle469 I never saw someone saying there is no difference, both headphones are different in sound. I'm saying about a real improvement in "detail retrieval". Some people say there is a tonality difference but not necessarily better detail with the 660S. Those people had good hearing, class A amps and the entire Sennheiser collection.
      Anyway I dont own the 660S and don't plan to buy it at this extremely high price to performance so that's not really my fight to know which one has 5% more detail, I'm just curious to finally have a conclusion of this matter. But each person feels something different about the technical performance.

      Hey Sennhieser guys, I only have experience with the HD558 and I hate them because of having zero bass punch for pop, rock, metal, and r&b. So my question is, do the better Sennheisers have more bass punch to them or should I just stay away from Sennheisers all together?

      @michaelmao6180 Před 4 lety +1

      @@MuhammadKharismawan No, they're not THAT similar, but K712 and K7xx are definitely better choices than SHP9500. Those SHP9500 have terrible bass, and I would not say it's a cheaper version of 800s. The K7 series sounds flat and somewhat uninteresting compared to the 800s, sure, cos that's the AKG sound. If you're really looking for similar sound signatures, you should look at headphones from the same company. However, 800 series is fairly unique and nothing else in Senn's line sounds quite like it.
