  • We picked this 1971 Ford Ranger XLT up in eastern Montana this fall. It had been sitting in a salvage yard and was last registered in 1998. It's got a 360 cubic inch FE engine and C6 automatic transmission. Lets see if we can get this thing back on the road!

I always like the Ford FE engines. They are good engines if you maintain them. Most people fall sadly short in that department...As was evidenced by the fact that it was a gallon low on oil. I'd bet the missing radiator was full of oil when they pulled it.

If they sit for a while they stick the rocker-arm shafts. next time pull the valve covers and check first. and old Ford fart. btw I just subscribed recently and so far I like your style. reminds me of some of our midnight oil sessions around a race car.

I bought a 1970 F100 XLT ranger with 302 auto for $1500 a few years ago. It had sat in a barn for 14 years the previous owner sprayed it off and put it up for sale. I drove it home after diluting the nasty gas with fresh gas enough to get it running and a new battery and did NOTHING ELSE. Ran fairly decent for about a year and i sold it to a highway cop in the next county for $3500. Solid ol truck.

"If'n you caint get the fire hap'nin' in the cylinder, light off the carb and jest let the valves suck that fire right in there."
Could hear she only had a couple of lungs working, but still hoped she'd fire. Ah well, you can't win 'em all, mate. She's got a good body though. Be a good rig to drop a big block in - Chev of course!
By the way, the engine you have turning over and firing at the start of each video when your logo is up - starter sounds like SBC, but the way she pops off and idles sounds like a flathead V8. You able to tell a feller what it is or do you want to keep it a secret?

Man I though you were going to get some oil out of the drain pan or bucket to put in there!! You come back with $20-25 a bottle oil. I'd at most throw Walmart oil or rotella in there
