- I recently rescued this 1966 Ford Bronco as I've always liked the look of the early Broncos and could never find one in my price range. Well I found one! And she needs some work! Let's see if we can get it back on the road!

I really like the role duff plays. He keeps away a need for any weird friends you might bring on.
The role of any good shop dog.
Mine is an 8 year old chocolate lab, that is also my service dog. Trained him.back in 2014, in case I needed another amputation, and had a trans femoral on July.
Diesel will fetch parts, tools (takes a.few.tries.to get the right one, but he tries) drinks from the fridge, holds the door, and if I need.help.up, stands and adds a bracing point to get back in the chair, or on my prosthetic. Training him.to get my liner socks now, from a.shelf in my office, or.my bag, and he's picking up on it quick.
Still have the wierd.friends stopping by, and customers, as well as my wife, but the dog is almost the perfect shop companion. At least until the wife brings her 11 year old black lab with her. The other half of.our bonded pair of rescues.
"Smooth move Ex-Lax..." - crying I'm laughing so hard. Haven't heard that in eons.
It's a classic!
Duff watching you from the supervisors chair, like "just get on with it so we can go for a ride!"
That's all he uses me for!
Generally speaking when the fan moves when rocking it ....it’s in gear ....lol . Love those 60’s Broncos . It’s a keeper . 👍👍
That was funny glad she didn't fire been there done that! New tool box to boot lol
Hey it happens!
Darn duffy dawg knocks everything
Clr to flush block
Run a bead of mig weld on the inside lip of the freezer plug and they will fall right out unless its brass then slide hammer

First time I was ever wrong!

@@MortskeRepair Yeah I know what you're sayin'!!! I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken!!! haha
Soon as he said that and the fan spun while pushing it I knew lurching was imminent.

I use two gallons of Gumout cleaner and run it through the cooling system. Fill, sit, drain a few times then rinse with water. The Gumout is reusable for several times.
Yes we do use the hockey sticks lol after that live yesterday Id say we need to do a collab lol
Those inline 6s are great engines. Good to see this old ford running again. Look forward to seeing this one some more.
Still got my '67 Bronco...it's now used for deer camp but no rust, runs great. That little 289 is bullet proof! It will climb a mountain trail. Lots of fun still!
Sweet Bronco!
Nothing like a Mortske Monday with a FORD!!!
I like my MM
I really love the patience Mortsky has in these vids. "If you know happens when you hook up a coil backwards..." So amazing! And so patient with minor set-backs!
Thanks Stephen!
Even Duff looked worn out on this one.
Nice to see some Mortske läthé work!
we just revived my grandpas 66 bronco yesterday’. been sitting since 1999. he wanted to buy high dollar 10-30 for it. told him we only run the best around here so we put diesel oil in it. he also wanted to pull the carb off and rebuild it. whacked her with the ole hammy 1-2-3 times and she came right around. ole floatskies started working and everything. all we did was drain the tank, a new fuel hose, changed the oil, and she fired right up. i loved all the stories he told me of how he went further in the woods in 2 high than the new jeeps in 4 low. it’s funny since it has vacuum wipers they make a 1/2 turn when you first start it. definitely very cool old units! great find.
Good stuff! They're tough old rigs!
@@MortskeRepair it’s a all numbers matching rig, we have the pto winch, and judging by the pedals, i’d say she’s a original 70,000 mile rig. just went out and bumped the key and she roared rught to life. today’s project is brakes, and changing t case oil, tranny oil, and rear end fluid and i’m gonna see about getting tags and insurance back on the old rig
She's rough around the edges but still so cool. I love these old Broncos. So simple.
Nice Bronco! I love the color on the doors inside!!! Cant wait to see it run!
thats a nice looking AR RUNNING GEAR YOU HAVE SITTING THERE, I JUST FOUND YOUR CHANEL AND IAM IN FOR THE LONG HALL. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
That Bronco fought you EVERY step of the way! Way to force it out of retirement!
When dudes in a garage make better entertainment then big money "shops"
Instant sub. Love it.
Much appreciated for the sub Austin!
Best way to flush blocks from my experience has been plain water until it flows clear, then add a gallon of Evap-o-rust to the coolant system topped off by distilled water. I run the engine to heat cycle it a few times over the coarse of a day then drain and refill with coolant. Nice find!
I'll give that a shot!
We did this with my Jeep and my two Oldsmobile. When we got around to tearing them down, the coolant passages looked great! We still completely tore them down, and went the whole 9 yards. But it gave us insight to cleaning and treating our Daily drivers.
@@MortskeRepair Anything acidic; The lower the PH, the more it needs dilution. I've always done it by guess and by gosh. but you can always use temporary plugs and do a relatively high acid content so you don't wreck your new plugs. Those plugs were designed into early engines for a "shaker" to pick up the block and shake the sand out of them. Of course their value as a "freeze" plug was easily recognized.
I watch you and VGG and he brags on you all the time about how good you are on vehicles and a good friend to him.
I think you like this one with all that fancy fabricating and even a new exhaust lol 🤣🤣 you actually have one that a lot of guys would kill to have. I'd like to see you Fix it up. Thanks for another great video
Keeping it stock pick up style, but he needs more space for Duffers,🤔👍😎
Dang! That death trap is sweet! I've actually never seen one of those IRL. Shes definitely a keeper.
That rig will flip quicker than a bent nickel
They're not easy to find that's for sure! Thanks for watching!
love that Bronco! the price of early Broncos will make anything you spend on it will be worth it. uncut Broncos are rare1
I've been looking for one for a long time!
Uncut half cab. Rare as hell!
Duffs finest work without a doubt. He does so much and asks for so little.
He really does.
That spring bracket is the best use of a broken snowmobile track cleat ever! LOL
Heck yeah!
Pretty dang sweet little bronco I normally flush stuff with CLC calcium lime remover has been working well for years super cheap and effective!! Great video once again really enjoyed it!!
I've always wanted to try that. I'll give it a shot!
That's a nice
ford bronco my grandpa had one.
You and Duff dog found a good find.
I still like your videos
keep em coming.
I knew it was a 200 strait 6 when I first saw it the ford fair mont and Mustang came with these 200 in line 6 cly. Dam good engines, even after rods pertrude through the side it will continue to run.
for a 1966 you did GOOD!!!!! i had the 1967 with a 170 6. had a lot of fun in it .
Cold War motors are also some pretty good Canadian guys to watch.
I hope he actually fixes this up. It’s a beauty
Naw stabilize it put some lipstick on it and flipp for 20k
That's the plan!
Just curious, what did you pay for that field find?
I'm 61 years old and I learn everyday and thank you for helping me you're a blessing I don't know anything like my son tells me I'm a very smart man but I'm an idiot he's right
Fantastic channel man! I'm here from Puddin cross over. Next time you're welding nuts on broken studs. Weld a weiner on the stud without a nut first. Next put a flat washer on weld it to the weiner. Then weld the nut to the washer. Most importantly wait for them to cool until you can touch it bare handed. Weld is soft when it's hot. 40 year old heavy equipment field service technician. I've extracted 100s of bolts from 1/4 to 1and1/4 with this method and got every one . It's in a caterpillar service manual somewhere. If you have several to do like you did, make an assembly line just go to the next broken one, next step and so on. Another trick is if it's broken off deep in a hold like on metal tracks. Cut a piece of an aluminum can and put it in the hole like a roll pin. The aluminum will keep you from welding to the surrounding metal and pull just the broken bolt. Subscribed, look forward to more videos
Thanks for the tip!
“ I’m sure this will snap”, Snap! Almost fell out the chair laughing.
I shoulda bought a lotto ticket!
I know, I was yelling at the screen, " Heat it with a torch, heat it with a . . . ") SNAP . . . Oh well!
@@stevenpdxedu Bahaha whoopsie!
Heroic effort, it took a lot of work, but that is a nice little Bronco!
Best thing to clean up an old engine is dollar store oven cleaner.
Drench it and let it sit for a while.
Then power wash it off.
Cheap and works wonders.
As for the white stuff in the radiator/thermostat, thats old antifreeze mixed with too much water. When it doesn't move for a long time, It pools and that causes it to crystalize and leave that residue in the perfect places to clog it!
Those first gen Broncos are so cool! We might need to convert ours to a half cab now!
I’ll trade you roofs!
@@MortskeRepair I don't think logistics are in our favor, but I'd do it! We're in MO.
About the time you started welding nuts on the broken stud is when I thought... didnt he say the only thing wrong with this thing was a wire?!? 😂😂😂😂
I was duped again!
Great video and having Duff around adds to the fun, he never fails to get excited about a run out in your rescues. Love the Bronco though they never officially came to the UK. "Ford, Ford four wheels and a board" or the "Dagenham dustbin" as we say here
That thing is a gem ! I'd clean er' up, open the double doors and park it in my living room
I have had really good luck with both phosphoric acid and osphalic acid on cast iron blocks. Plug off all the holes, pull the thermostat and fill er up. Let it sit for a week, then flush. Rinse and repeat if required. Most rad flush products are nothing but dilute phosphoric acid. Spendy way to buy it. Go to Lowes or a paint shop and buy it in 5 gallon pails for cheap. It’s reusable too. Works on old radiators as well. It removes iron oxide, calcium and even oily residue and converts the surface iron to iron phosphate, which is corrosion resistant moving forward. Most recently I did my ‘49 Ford flathead (sat since 1979), and it worked like a charm. I used it in the nasty old fuel tank as well after I steamed out the 3” of tar and varnish. Bright and clean.
I'll have to give it a shot! Thanks!
Those Broncos are so collectible now !
Hi and greetings from the UK. This is the first time I have watched your channel, and I'm impressed and have subscribed. That's a nice project that you have got and looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Duff is a lovely looking dog and I hope he is a regular feature in your videos. Thoroughly enjoyed. Cheers Chris.
Thanks much for subbing in the UK Christopher! Duff is present in almost every episode
White vinegar and water. I bought a Ford ranger that was super rusty. I used a gallon of white vinegar and filled the rad water, run it up to normal temp, shut it down, l leave it at overnight and drain in the morning, then flush it good with water. Worked awesome.
Great tip!
An Old Mechanic Told Me.
The Best Way to Repair is the Way You Repair Best.!
Sounds good to me!
I need to move to your area, I swear some of the coolest finds I’ve ever seen, all the ones around in my area are rusted into the ground or the owner has plans to fix them that’s been ongoing for 40 years as they rust away. Keep up the great content!
I put a lot of miles on finding this stuff!
Like here in Celaya México or they want millions of pesos 100,000 usd !
If you didn’t have all these challenges you’d be bored! I can see why you wanted this year of Bronco. Pretty basic but there’s a lot of potential!
You aren't a hack mechanic, your a good teacher!!!
Still a hack, just good at teaching it!
I love watching puddins fab shop bc he likes you alot as a true friend and he is very smart. My 3 favorite car shows are You and Puddin and VGG bc you teach stuff
You have all the coolest toys! I would like to see some more videos on this one and you have enough left to do to make several. These are really hard to find that haven't been messed with and are not all rusted out. Even here in the south they seem to have a lot of rust problems and are just generally beat all to crap. With gas prices on the rise that 6 may be your best friend.
More to come!
She’s a beaut bud 🇬🇧✊🏻 would love to see the progress with the Bronco 👍🏻
I love how you found the new radiator hose after the fact. Sounds like my kind of luck…..
Story of my life!
Old school that's awesome passion for classic cars great video happy happy, happy
The coil has 2 windings, therefore 4 wires, 2 of these are connected together at the points side LT terminal, if you got them reversed it might still run however the sparkolator HT current would return through the + ignition side instead of through the condensor, probably resulting in a shorter/weaker spark, and if you listen to the radio probably a load of intereference.
You want the HT current to go through the condensor as it forms a resonant circuit making a brighter/longer spark.
Thank you! This I didnt know.
Coldwarmotors channel is cool.. they are Canadian !
So is Deboss Garage
I really enjoy the lighting in your vids Mortske. Just like Vegas. You never known what time of day it is, and what happens at Mortske's, stays at Mortske's.
LOL!!!!!! 8:15 "well is it in gear (rolls truck, fan moves) I don't think so (crank, camera falls) just kidding."
For a minute there, I was thinking that you might cut a hole through the firewall to get to that rear freeze plug.
I'm not gonna lie, it crossed my mind!
Thank god you figured out that wire problem. Cant believe they left that beauty just sitting there for a wire....
I think there was a few things. Like the no brakes! And the cooling issues! and the fuel tank held in by hopes and dreams!
Love that Bronco. So cool that is is the smaller top over the more common full top. Kind of mini truck like.
CLR for cleaning out coolant passages.
I’m super jealous. I really really want an early bronco. Just working on one would be awesome. Super simple vehicles, not much to go wrong and super reliable. Good find there buddy!
P.S. After watching you for a while now I’ve found myself saying, “DAAAAANG”, whenever I find or see something interesting.

Hey Mortske... Greetings once again from Cleveland, OH home of PB Blaster... Nifty little Bronco... Just needs a good clean and some good seats and you've got another Duff Transporter for his rabbit runs...And beef up the heater box and get some cassettes for the stereo-and you've got a good beater with a a heater for the two of you......
Hay John I'm from BOARDMAN near Youngstown, Ohio and I travel to Cleveland at least once a month. I didn't know that it was the home of PB Blaster. I love that stuff, it really works great. Thank you for that nifty information👍. God Bless you and your family, and have a great day. 💯👍👍🙏🙏✌😊✌
It's also home of the Indians until the left wing dills decided that's racist....idiots.
Hard, hard laugh when you found the new radiator hose!! Thank you!
I was not laughing!!
What a great video, Duff Dog and old Bronco--Can't get better!
I am wondering how many Bronco's that well designed exhaust manifold was keeping from escaping the stables.
Nice find! I know you did a lot of work but I would love to own one. There very expensive to find one period and most are just totally rusted out junk. By the way my 78 K5 with 32” tires and a 4” lift is all tight but above 60 on bumpy swaying roads is also very scary because of the short wheel base.
I had a 72 K5 on 37s. That was a handful.
@@MortskeRepair I bet
Cool Bronco! Can’t wait for next videos on it!
LOVE first gen Broncos! If only I had known they would cost SO many dinero when I was in high school, they were everywhere! Dang it! Todd the retired trucker.
‘78 would have come from the factory with a Duraspark electronic ignition setup, which I think came out in ‘74? So yeah, no points, and no points gap to specify. Guess whoever swapped that engine in reused the original engine distributor instead of adapting the Duraspark (not like adapting it is that hard, but then again, if they got the basic coil wiring backward, that was probably for the best)
Left the emissions carb and tossed the high energy ignition. What the French?!?
Puddin always references you in his videos and you mentioned him this time and it's about how he can't spell. It would be funny if in his next video or the one after that, he responds to that comment lmao
I'm sure he'll have some response!
@@MortskeRepair WHERE IS HE? You realize your Bronco is the same color of his LUV, Loadstar, Travelall... He HAS to have it.. I know it's been months but Irwin makes LH drill bits for hardened steel, soak the hell out of it with penetrating oil and drill in steps till you get a decent size extractor in it. That's what we did at the shop when welding nuts failed!.also the hole releases surface tension at the threads
You are a patient man. Going through those studs is an impressive. I would have thrown that engine in a lake.
It wasn't fun!
Love the way you get all the cars and trucks started and on the road I enjoy watching the videos
We don't win them all!
Nice Bronco. Cool that it's running again. 👍
You really brought that thing back to life. Way to go.
I think I’m going to have nightmares for years to come for what you dug out of that Cooling system
Sounds pretty good!
Just be glad you could find one that's buildable. Up here in the PA,if you can find a grease stain to start from, the owner will want your everlasting soul for it. Great work BTW.
Oh wow!
That thing would be a badass little rig with a 289, 4 barrel, dual exhaust with Cherry Bombs a all terrain tires
Love the videos. Another trick I know, after you get the bolt/stud hot, hit it with some paraffin wax. The wax melts and gets sucked into the threads. Worked well for talking old irrigation pumps apart.
Great tip
I will say I get a good chuckle out of these videos
That's what we're here for!
