- A friend of mine mentioned there was a 1956 Caddy Sedan Deville rotting away in his grandmothers garage. And that it was PINK! Well Duff and I couldn't pass that up! Lets see if we can get this thing back on the road after 50 plus years of sitting abandoned in a 2 stall garage! Sorry guys but this one is already spoken for. I do still have the engine and transmission however if you need a core 365 OHV V8.

You stuck with that so much longer than I would have with that motor. However, you outdid yourself with the Puddin appearance and to top it all off, a pressure washing. Thanks for making Monday mornings so enjoyable. I hope this car doesn't make you lose the shop.
Definitely agreed I was thinking when I saw the freeze plugs gone that thing is toast it froze and popped! He's got intestinal fortitude that's for sure!!!
Ida put it on a stand and yank the pan off. Put a pipe wrench on the crank and gave it hell.
That Caddy has as many peculiarties as a nympho nun, a real chamber of horrors ! How did so much water get in the pan with engine buttoned up ? As for the block, given the missing freeze plugs, it's likely cracked. Oh word is me !
@@pookysdad4884 I don't believe that freeze plugs are just for knocking sand out of an engine block. That might have applied for the old flat-head Ford, but casting science has come a long way since then.
@@pookysdad4884 A freeze plugs is a freeze plugs. A rose by any other name, would smell as sweet.
I love how Duff just jumps in there and gets to work giving the old nasal appraisal
Not much gets past that nose!
@@MortskeRepair BTW, that is not a torque converter. It's simply a fluid coupling. The trans is a four speed Hydramatic. With four forward speeds it didn't need the additional torque multiplication of a torque converter.
@@corvettejohn4507 You are correct. My 53 Pontiac had the Hydramatic. When taking off from a stop, the engine would rev slightly, much like letting out the clutch.
@@MortskeRepair duff knows what went on the last 75 years with 1 sniff
It's Monday night in Hong Kong, and this is the best thing to happen to me today.
Rust: Makes cars fall apart, but holds brakes together stronger than a weld. This must have been a beautiful car back in it's day. Too bad it had to sit and rot.
Don’t forget lighter than carbon fiber
all good bro maybe next time she will be arunner
I don't think it rotted at ALL. I watched my uncle spend a lot of his time(35 years) fixing 3 "cancerlacs"
Ya crush it so people will know what to put time into and what not to
Almost seems like you've found all the local cars that can be started. Been awhile since you were able to get one running. But they're still fun to watch. Thanks!
We'll keep after it and get one someday!
@@MortskeRepair Derek from VGG, and Rich from DeBoss were saying in one of the latest vids that most old cars are picked over in MN/ND/SD.
Rich mentioned still a good amount in MT, WY, and ID
I still think he could have lapped the valves on that cabover Ford Flathead and got it to run lol
The best thing about a Monday morning is one of your videos!! Thanks for taking the time to share these with us
Glad you enjoyed it!
Almost like the vice grip guy
I love the "car experts" standing around directing what to do!
Always!
In case you didn't see on another thread, I started a Mortske Repair Fan Group on FB, please feel free to join or check it out.
There are definitely some experts out here but I'm not going to say anything🤣.I've seen too many CZcams know it all guys, one of them was telling me not to use or he couldn't use a ohm meter on a coil, he just takes the coil and throws it in the corner and I thought what a baby. But he broke out his own meter to test diodes, and I thought what a hypocrite not mortski some other dude. that had a CZcams channel and thought he was God, he is very smart but he's not God. have a good day too bad that Cadillac was stored like that. I told him you can use a battery and a light bulb to test dials where do you use a ohm meter only when you want to .🙄
@@chriss5956 Nice!
This is one of the main reasons I enjoy watching your channel. Oh we will just try to get this engine that hasn’t ran in over 30 years to run again. Oh this broke and that broke? I’ll just take it apart and fix it just to see if it will run again. DETERMINATION!!
Love the honesty and realism, not everything is worth saving...
The Spring in the Dust Cap is for Radio Suppression ..Helps keep Static out of the old Tube AM car radio
That's wild! Thanks!
Yes sir!!👍✌️🤙🏻👍
truth
Huh neat
Wow what will they think of next
Hard to believe that this car at some point rolled out of Cadillac dealer brand new and it was probably the fanciest and most opulent vehicle on the road
It wasn't a Eldorado drop top...... but it certainly was beautiful, and top of the line :D
We related?
Not to detract from this once great car , but the deville series was the entry level model in the Cadillac lineup .
@@HowardJrFord actually, the series sixty two was the entry level
Elvis had bought several of the Pink Cadi/s for his Mum and other friends.
I think you had the right idea from the start of the video, this rust bucket has a lot of great parts for someone restoring a 1956 Caddy. You can make more than your money back by selling all the parts
That batwing air cleaner is much sought after, should be worth a hundred, maybe more.
Danged cricket had me second guessing myself everytime I heard him start back up. Thanks for the upload Mortske!
Brings back memories of a 56' caddie taking off the drivers side of my once 52' Hillman Minx Convertible. I watched the whole thing as I was coming home from a date and it turned out it was a friend with his Moms /caddie. Big monster car hitting a small convertible. Thanks for the memories. That innocent happened in 59'.
Mortske, You have the tenacity, that most of us out here watching don't have, to go after the hidden problem or bad symptom of a vehicles inability to start up again and be made available to some new owner out there who will give it a new life on the road. It makes me challenge myself not to give in so easy while working on my 1978 Ford F250 Super cab. I raise my bottle in the air and shout out a toast to you and and the Duff dog!
In my 58, the antenna is power, still working, and it has all the original wiring, everything works, the power windows all still work, have the original motors!! This poor car does break my heart a little. My original engine, 365 purrs like a kitten. My engine is rated at 310 HP.
I like it when you ask us a question, then the cricket starts chirping. Live long Jiminy!!
Haha, didn't even have to try!
That’s Davey Cricket!
Think with your cricket Jimmy!
@@MegaHello202 Remember the Alamo! wait what?!?
Didn't you see the cricket on the air cleaner? I was sure it was the one driving him nuts but then he said he squished one, so there must have a few more living in the Caddy :D
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, I always love a Greta appearance 👍 best to you and the Duff Dog!
That Duffster dawg is a sweetheart. I think he loves his owner a bit. Love the fast tail wag!
I saw that cricket on the air cleaner and thought, smack it, but, nope? Then he treated you to a song, over and over! You stuck with this one way longer than I would have! I about died when the torque converter came apart! "I don't know what to do!" Classic!
Someone somewhere needs that block I’m sure ! I heard those motors are pretty strong runners . You took it WAY farther then most people would !
Oh it won't go for scrap that's for sure!
Hardcore Barnfind. Mortske ALWAYS doin the hardest of the hard!
Wish it woulda turned out better!
I can remember Dad having one of these in 57. My Jr Sr prom car in 58.
Good times!
Wow
I found you! So glad. I’m MamaCard from Florida. 77 & love watching these old revivals. ( my daughter says “ you’re such a Motörhead Mom!”)
Glad you found us!!! Much appreciated for commenting as well!
The struggle is real, Thanks Mortske.
I needed some Mortske today, thanks for the video!
Always a pleasure to watch you work your tips saved me a lot of money on my build too bad it didn't work out with the caddy but remember we can't win them all
I grew up playing in cars like that. I can smell this video.
Those early Hydramatics were once the hot deal - ever heard of B&M Hydros? They built them for drag racing.
Yes they did. The were the terror of the NHRA Junior Stock classes. 1955-1957 Chevy Sedan Deliveries were allowed to run them and they kicked but in their classes. Of course the Pontiacs did well with them too.
Don't think it's a torque converter, just a fluid coupling used in 1st gear only and then bypassed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th...
Monday morning anticipation of an Elvis resurrection turns into an alien autopsy, I was needing a few sammiches as things started going downhill fast. Good thing you had a clip of Puddin dancing to livin up the mood, they all can't be winners.
Glad you enjoyed that!
Enjoy the content every week. You get to see how the older vehicles were put together. Keep up the great job!!!
Thanks! Will do!
That hat, that mug and a pink Cadillac, Perfect!
Total package!
Love the long vids thank you mr mortske
You're welcome Bill!
That was a cool car to bad it’s so chewy
I thought you were gonna lose the shop halfway through this one ! Talk about improper storage. This poor girl was done wrong !
When you’re tapping on the valves it like the Mortske xylophone. Loli believe I started watching this one and the wife wanted to go shopping or something unimportant. I do loves me some Cadillac!😊
I love Cadillac from this era
Hey mortske. Next time you pull plugs on your next show? Be interesting to see how that vintage spark plugs cleaner works? Good show as always!!
Yeah we could surely do that!
@@MortskeRepair I would like to see that! I was about to pick one up? But since you have one. It would be very interesting I think on your next motor revival.
Lol so the kids can rip darts in the back killed me!!!
Well yeah! Start em young!
@@MortskeRepair I'm not gonna say I didn't have my first beer before age 10 but that's just a midwest thing like riding in the back of the truck it's normal for us!!
@@CPthetooladdict And we turned out just fine!
@@MortskeRepair ahhh the good old days!!
My dad was in the process of restoring a baby blue 1956 2 door Cadillac when he passed. Unfortunately I was not able to step in and take over the project which was sold. Seeing you work on this old gal brings back memories.
That would be a great car!
Hey brokoski, your dealing with a stuck engine, an old engine. I mean an uphill battle. 99% of dudes wouldnt even touch it. Good job bud and i mean it.
Thanks Buster!
I enjoy the struggle but there’s not always gold at the end of the rainbow….we all appreciate the post Mortem 👍🏻🇬🇧 keep up the hard work bud
Thanks Jim!
What a shame that car was left to rot. So sad!
I have a soft spot for that era Cadillac. It hurts to see how badly she was treated. Thanks for trying.
They are great cars!
Went from 49.9k to 50k subscribers while I was watching this. Congrats, Mortske! Well deserved!
Much appreciated Dustin!
I had high hopes for her to run but those were dashed when I saw how it was stored.😞. You did your best! That’s all we can ask for!👍
We got a good streak of dead ones going!
There's not much left of the old girl, part it out for some worthy survivor to keep on the road.
made my monday as well .thanks mortskey..hams drank it alot.remember when the cans were shaped like kegs.and the old lasallel ran great.those were the days
I admire your optimism and fortitude. I'd have taken one look and gone for coffee after closing the garage door quietly behind me.
“ Like” before the video even started! Happy Monday with Mortske!!!!
Much appreciated Jim!
Couldn’t sleep. But I found a Mortske episode I haven’t seen! Yay!!
Repairs by Duff.... can't get enough of that
Outstanding effort! Your intestinal fortitude and persistence,, always impressed!
Like your pink Cadillac there, Tina.
When the engine tipped , the trans spilled its oil, and you spun off the balancer… glad to see that it’s not just my projects that end up that way. My 4 year old, father and law, and myself watch every episode. Father and law and I love the mechanical side, ray, he just loves watching for duff dog! Keep up the good work, love seeing it!
Thanks for all the views Dustin and family!
My dream rig. Thanks for another great Mortske Monday! Good luck🐾
Gotta love when that one random hubcap finds a home.
Hell yeah boy finding a Cadillac great work thanks for the show mortske.
Thanks for all your hard work and keeping us entertained.
Our pleasure!
Someone won the lottery drinking that beer!
I’m glad you followed through as far as you did. I throughly enjoyed this video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just watching the time lapse of getting the car on the trailer was worth the watch.
Man the loading scenes are always fun to watch. That reminded me of everytime we got to load something. Failure is never an option!
Glad you enjoyed it! This one was a struggle! Good thing I had all that "help"!!
@@MortskeRepair even fence posts are good for something. 👍
Holy schnikeez! That was a heck of a teardown! Cadillac things.
Man that was rough. Just straight up brutal. That's why I have two rules. It's gotta have a title and not be stuck. 🤣 Good effort!
I just love your amuzing presentation Mr.Mortske. You are a funny bloke.. I keep sniggering away at your dry jokes...and you constantly amaze me with your piston skill. I'm learning stuff here Mr.Mortske. Thank you !

Martski my friend. That Cadillac's kicking your ass. It is fun watching the autopsy. You have way more patience then I do. Thank you for the entertainment.
You're very welcome Jay!
So sad the ol Caddy was neglected so long. This was the most entertaining project, enjoyed the Puddin’ Cameos. Looking forward to your next post.
I love these old cads had one when I was in the air force in 1979 wish I still had it today
COUNTDOWN TO 50K SUBSCRIBERS. GO ON MORTSKE 👍👍👏
Best thing about Monday's...Mortske!!!
What a shame this cool old car wasn't stored in a concrete building with a dry floor and roof, I guess nobody at the time thinks clapped out old motors are gonna be worth something in 50 years! Love your videos and am always excited to watch a new upload, you put a lot of your sense of humour and personality into your videos and they are very entertaining. I think I've watched nearly all of your back catalogue by now, I like how you show the entire process and how you are honest about how everything goes, it's like we're along for the ride with you. Look forward to future videos, keep up the good work, and tell Duff he's a good boy from me!
Much appreciated for watching and commenting Jamie!
I've been doing the same thing you have I got a 1972 Chevrolet K20 four-by-four that's been parked for 30 years it looked like Pepto-Bismol when I got it but it's beautiful now and it drives perfect
Sweet jams . You and DeBoss have killer soundtracks. Rock on Mortske
Thanks Nicolas!
Ive watched quite a few videos of yours, and i have to say. You have the coolest and best dog ever. Duff is awesome.
He sure is!
I try to watch all your updated shows..its interesting content. Thank you
Hey thanks a bunch Dennis!
Thanks Mr. Mortske!
Thanks Duff!
Those wheel covers probably best thing left on this one. A favorite of the old "kustom" guys.
Would make a fancy boat anchor,Liked, will watch more
15:24 It is amazing that that old car just knew which way to turn the wheel to get itself in that garage!
You are made of patients and NOT a swear word passed your lips. You are an example of endurance and tolerance. I do NOT have skills anywhere near yours and I would have quit about the time you discovered how bad the Wheels.. Keep up the great work. I also admire your love of animals and the way you make time for your beloved dog. What an example to others you are . CHEERS and keep up the great work.. Sean Fagan. Ireland.
Much appreciated Sean!
Awesome again. Shame that she got so far gone. Be well and stay safe sir. UK.
Great pink car. Thanks to share.
Too bad Mortske 😞, a 56 Caddy Hardtop in pink no less. As usual you gave it your all. Yes it was in a barn but Mother Nature made sure her goose was cooked. And who throws a bag of salt on the trunk lid of their car. 👎. I’m sure you were hoping for better outcome. Thanks for the vid Mortske n Duff you always entertain.
"So the kids can rip darts in the back" that's awesome
You know it!

Thanks for watching Dennis!
You went alot deeper into that engine than I would have. I would have gave up on it way before you did
Great video bud. Certainly love the determination. Tons of good things to save on that baby.
I would like to make a request I'm sure with the support of many of your fans. Could we get a short video dedicated to Duff? He's such a special dog and such a important part of the show. Just a thought. Thanks
Sure, what would he talk about?
@@MortskeRepair Haha. Just tell us more about him. His age. Were you got him. What he's up to when not behind the camera etc. He breathed enough rat turds to deserve some props. He's the star of the show!
Love hearing the history.
Its serious when both supervisors show up matter of minutes of starting a job..Then OHSA shows up haha!
Thank goodness Greta never sent the EPA!
The old taillight trick, WOW! It has been a long time since I used that trick.
Nice to see you have a dust cap remover pliers dude thing. Almost as handy as a points file. Most Tube guys just beat them to smithereens with a huge Crescent wrench. The spring inside the cap is for radio static suppression as were the capacitors sometimes found on generators.
Good stuff!
Keep this trick I devised years ago for the future..
Try this... Heat the plastic tube from the carb cleaner spray with a lighter (about 1/4-1/2 inch from the end. Then pull on each end of the tube to stretch it. This makes the outer/inner tube diameter smaller and more of a pin point. When the melted plastic solidifies, use small wire clippers or nail clippers to snip the tube at the smallest diameter that still provides flow when spraying. The cleaner comes out like a pin point pressure washer and the shrunken plastic tube end fits inside whatever port your spaying thru.
You can also do the same to create 90 degree angles in the plastic tube to spray sideways inside long venturi tubes.
I used to make/keep custom tubes around for these situations. Hope this makes sense. BTW.... Great videos.
Awesome video…. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I’ll be honest I’m up to date with Puddin, it has been awhile sense I’ve seen a good Puddin dance!! 😂😂😂 slowly but surely I’m getting from start to finish on your channel! Thank you for the content!
Much appreciated
50 years or so stored in a damp shed, I think the odds were always against you, still a great video, all the best from the UK
Now THAT is a barn find!
I had that exact car in baby blue back in the '90s. She is an elegant lady. It is too bad she wasn't taken care of better.
