- The MTA has a small fleet of tank cars, used to carry various liquids such as water and weed-killing chemicals. They are very rarely used and seldom seen in the subway system. Here we see these cars being transferred up to 207th Street Yard. Enjoy!

That is the most interesting non passenger subway train in NYC that I have ever seen!
I always see these and want to jump on board.
Rare to see these tank cars.
Very cool , I worked in many a train yard and rarely came across them
I have been seeing these for a few years. My memory of them as i was riding The D train going towards CONEY ISLAND STILLWELL AVENUE in the yard was a row of them. Its like freight trains in the subway.😃. I was just watching another channel BALTIMORE & OHIO in one of their videos at the end of train 2 tankers in white with the red blinking end of train device. What a treat to see both trains presenting tankers, awesome! 👌
Nice catch! Why does maintenance stuff like this almost never go to 240th?
240th is just a a small layup and basic maintenance yard. No need for stuff like that up there.
Very interesting!
Never knew the Mta had tank cars for the subway
Yeah Ikr I’m guessing it’s diesel fuel for their work traims.
@@42luke93 Nope, that's for fire suppression (spring RoW fire season is almost upon us), and I'm pretty sure for weed/vegetation prevention.
@@W2IRT it is , especially for surface lines like Sea Beach and Brighton Beach lines.
@@luislaplume8261 Just curious why the move to the IND, which is almost all underground. I'm guessing (and it's just that, a guess) that it'll be transferred to the IRT for Dyre Ave., but I can't really think of anything else in the Bronx that would need this. Unless it was for overhaul work at 207th.
@@42luke93 they run on electricity.
Nice
I wonder how far you'd get if you hopped into one of those open cars? ;)
That's Cool
Cool😀😀
Subway freight nice
Interesting.
As a kid I remember everyone stopping to look at this train
What is the tank car used for?
Transporting fuel, water, or sewage?
I KNEW I WASNT TRIPPIN WHEN I SAW THIS BY THE FRANKLIN AVE STATION
Why’d they put number plates on the tanks. Seems to use a lot more energy. Why not just paint on the numbers.
Small fleet ? ... 3 that I have seen T204 T205 and T206 , could be more I guess, and I worked for MTA 35 years.
what do those do
hi are the locomotives gas, electric or both
most likely only electric
Diesel I believe...
What this tank is for?
Spraying water and also to kill off weeds growing on the tracks.
What's wrong with the taillights? Bad contact?
Jakub, Noting design to flash and in Railroad terms they are called "Markers". :)
@@bobbender2922 if they were designed to flash, they're not doing a very good job at that
Bad contact is the correct answer. The electrical power on the train comes from the diesel electric engine. It sends power from the engine to the lights on the other cars through cables between the cars. That energy returns to ground into the metal rails. When the train passes over a rusty spot in the rails, the circuit is interrupted, that's why the lights flash. They are not designed to flash.
I've seen them a few times before. They're not as "rare" as you claim
Especially if you're out in the city late night/early morning
@@leeuchiha5256 I recall seeing one of them in daylight passing through 225th Street. Even got a photo of it (this was a long time ago--before digital cameras were commonplace and firmly within the Redbird era.)
I mean we all ride the subway so you will come across them obviously but not as often
Hoping to see some autoracks, right?
only if they were short enough
Lol. They are too high.
By the way, why does the subway seem more narrow than freight trains? Must be an illusion. I look up online and are pretty much the same width.
Although the IND and BMT are actually different in width.
@@Bassotronics Maintenance of way trains are narrower to comply with IRT clearances (car width 8'10") so they can roam the entire system.
These will be used by the MTA if the nyc subway gets bombed 🙃
Foam
Thats nit a foam
It's just a tank car
Or to give foam-ers their annual bath if they get in range ?
I BROKE IN ON DIESEL OPERATIONS IN 1970
BUT I DID NOT WANT TO WORK ON THEM.
I DIDN'T LIKE THE DIESEL FUMES AND IT WAS NOT GOOD JOB TO WORK JUST ON OVERTIME. I SAW A LOT OF EQUIPMENT AND OPERATED DIFFERENT TRAINS LIKE THE VACUUM TRAIN, MONEY TRAIN
GARBAGE TRAIN ETC.
BUT I NEVER SAW A TANK CAR. I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR?

Check out my comment above in the comments section! And MTA should try ethyl alcohol as it does not produce toxic fumes like diesel. And it is easier to start a locomotive in winter and does not require a lot of money to build and operate a alcohol distillery.
first cry about it
But you aren't first. I don't cry over lies.
