    Great video man. I about 5 years ago started converting any plant I can to water only. And it's really changed the game for me. I have a few sanseverias that were down to one leaf and two years later after placing it in a vase with some rocks on the bottom and maybe a monthly water to just below the plants base have yielded me soooo many leaves and really strong root systems.
    I'd say for new calathea owners the rattlesnake is the most tolerant in so many aspects. I have an orbifolia that has taken the same decline that everyone gets with these beautiful but " bitchy" calatheas. I'm going to cleaning up this weekend and get her into some water in a vase. Wish me luck!

    Hello! Gorgeous gorgeous calatheas you have! I am encouraged after seeing your water cultivation method! As mine’s are dying in the soil😂!

      I lost so many in soil. Most transferred over to water easily. It was the mites that killed a bunch of mine. But some are still going strong. 😃👍🏼

    Ps I have found peace lillies do amazing in water. And the rebloom constantly. In my experience though they need the water a bit higher and closer to the base of the plant or the leaves get some yellowing.

    Have you done any carnivorous plants? I just got my first one and have it in moss and water. I'm curious if I can teach it not to freak out about tap water like you've done with your calathea! All your plants look amazing. I have a Dottie that has two new pups coming up along with a new leaf and it's so exciting! I love that I found your channel when it was still small enough to transfer to water culture easily!

    Hi Paul. The last time you had a video on Calathea in water I mentioned in my comment that I have a Makoyana which was doing well since I brought it home. But, there’s something not quite right about it now (a few months in my possession). Most of the leaves are pointing downwards at almost 45 deg. from the stems and last night I noticed that there were only 3 leaves that stood up for the night. The rest were still pointing very much downward.I think it’s time to try the water but just one question….can I rinse the roots in regular tap water then place them in rainwater when they are clean? (I don’t have much rainwater at hand due to no rain) Thanks for another interesting video.

      Hey there. I use regular tap water for everything with these plants. Rinsing them off in tap water shouldn't be a problem at all. Just get them as clean as you possibly can. Let me know how things go. I've been there, growing in soil. Always disappointing... and you haven't done anything different. They just throw a fit in soil sometimes. Water has helped me so much!!!!!

      @@paultheplantparent2702 just took my Makoyana out of the pot today, OMG I couldn’t believe what was going on in that pot. The roots had gone to the bottom then back up again, unless that’s how it was potted up before I received it. There were sooo many tuber things in there as well. I started rinsing in a bowl then eventually broke off one section which had the tallest leaves, then ended up breaking off some tubers and another section. So I’ve ended up with three decent sized pieces and rinsed under lukewarm tap water. They are now in a glass jar with rainwater. I must mention also that the roots had a ton of little short roots all the way down each root. Is that normal? Well, what an experience that was today, it took me over a hour so for all that effort I hope I don’t lose it. Thanks for your help Paul, very much appreciated.

      @@renatecormick7399 that sounds about right. Makoyana is so strong and resilient, I haven’t lost one yet in water. And I have a few. Keep me posted on how they’re doing. Make sure to keep the water clean for the first couple of weeks. I just use tap water now and they do great. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Can I do this for Calathea Burle Marxii Plant? It seems to have a giant bulb!

    Why does the snake plant need yarn medium? Will it die in pure water culture?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 8 měsíci

      Hello. That’s usually what I do. If I’m changing the water a lot, i could keep the water at the base of the plant stem. The more you change the water, the more water you can use.

      Hey there. Welcome to the plant community. 😃🌱. When I first put them in water culture I don’t give any feed until they acclimate. Once you see new roots starting to grow and/or new leaves, I give them either better gro orchid fertilizer or Maxigro. Both work well in water culture. Best of luck and keep me posted on how things are going. 👍🏼🌱
