At this rate, when I buy my new workstation, I'll have 6ghz base clocks on the cpu and 4ghz base clock on the GPU in about 10 years or less. Boosts will probably increase each by about 1Ghz due to the advances made. 4K at 240fps will be the norm, and 8K at 120fps will be the new industry standard for reaching towards. 1080p will be considered retro by then.

They got where they are today by making GPUs for gaming while taking a big bet on the parallel processing capabilities of the silicon they were creating outside of gaming and taking it into other products such as data centre chips. Gaming is the core of their success. It is in Nvidia’s DNA, and it built the foundation for all of this. Gamers brought tonnes of GeForce GPUs, giving Nvidia a dominant 80% market share. That gave Nvidia the freedom to explore new opportunities elsewhere and allowed it to gain massive market shares in other segments, such as accelerated computing. Jensen Huang even said that gaming is one of the keys to what AI is experiencing right now. All four of Nvidia's segments saw double digit growth this year. There is plenty of headroom for all of them to grow significantly, so Nvidia ditching the gaming segment would make zero sense. With the release of next gen GPUs coming soon, hopefully, there will be strong competition in the gaming GPU market to turn things around. RDNA 4 and Battlemage are said to be highly competitive in the midrange segment. RDNA 5 and Celestial should hopefully bring some competition into the high end and enthusiast class segments. The skyrocketing demand for data centre chips isn't going to last forever.

I mean... Top 4090s already run with clocks significantly over 3 GHz. This could mean a lot or this could mena nothing, base clock is a pretty irrelevant specification as the cards almost never run at the base speeds.

Including your bank account!! I mean seriously, in the UK a 4090 is £2k+ , aside from those influencers and millionaires, who would EVER spend £2k on a graphics card? Getting a card that will do 1440 at ultra @ maybe 80fps over here in the uk is currently riding around the £550 -600 mark for a 6800xt ,7900gre, 7800xt. They don't get much cheaper second hand either until maybe a further gen has been out a year or so. How come the US market is like 1/3 less than the uk? It has been, as long as I can remember which is coming up 25 years. The thing is this, now that enthusiast mboards are retailing here at £400, g cards 2k, 30% extra on high prices starts getting silly. It is already cheaper for me to fly to the states and buy parts and fly back here again and hope I don't get pinged by customs !!!

I get that they would have to drastically reduce clocks to not cannibalise their own sales for the more expensive X3D SKU's, but with that kind of ST performance, that would be an absolute beast gaming orientated CPU. Particularly paired with a 50 series GPU.
