They are on an island! They have to reuse and recycle and repurpose! LOL
They were on a tight budget and had to re-circulate props to fill the scene. I bet they would have never thought that 50 years later hundreds of thousands of fans would be viewing their secret methods from back then.. Thanks Rick..!
It makes sense for the castaways to keep an idea they still are using months or even years later
It's interesting to re-watch these classic episode several times over just to pick up on certain details that may have gone unnoticed before. Good work, Rick.
Thanks for this segment Rick. I personally find these types of segments interesting and fun. I hope you will continue to bring them to us.
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes. The bit with the bomb in the volcano is so funny and well acted.
Good Catch! Dig that hairdo on Ginger. Funny how Gilligan's first name was Willy, Willi Gilli seems to fit.
It does fit so well!
Bill Gill...
It’s always cool to look at things in shows like this and pick up on certain stuff you wouldn’t normally notice before. Thanks for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well. Take care!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Rick, I love these videos! Thanks for keeping these coming!
Glad you like them! My pleasure making them for you all!
@@rickninegThe valve is a gourd!
These hidden facts in all the shows you are covering are just amazing Thanks Rick
Very welcome
No. Thank you for all your vlogs
The one prop that's missing is the Bamboo car. What ever happened to it? Thanks Rick.
I made a video on the bamboo car czcams.com/video/EetCAWS1HyM/video.htmlsi=0lQcwBt7DJpxb-mQ
I believe Gillian Drove the Bamboo car into the Lagoone
Ps,thanks for the classics,"love them All."
That's cool, Rick. Have seen some things like that in HH, as well. Thanks.
Your spontaneous videos never cease to amaze! I did not know Gilligan’s real name was Willy! Gives new meaning to the title “Free Willy” doesn’t it? 😂
Great catch on the gadget regardless, and a good reminder to always keep an eye out on the background of most classic tv shows, you never know what you’re going to find!
Wow, thank you!
A well earned “you’re welcome” indeed! 👏
Is this the episode where Ginger & Mary Ann took mud baths. I seem to remember that one being related to hot water somehow.
Another general question about this episode - Where did the Professor live/sleep? I don't think we ever saw his hut. Gilligan & the Skipper shared (with their bunk hammocks), so did the Howells and Ginger & Mary Ann. Maybe the Professor had a bed in the supply hut.
Yes! The Professor lived in the supply hut.
It's interesting that you find out things that you never was aware of it noticed while watching this show awesome rick
Almost every show back then did an episode where a main character meets his exact lookalike double it was the most common story for these old shows and it was always fun.
Just for: Gilligan, Mr Howell and Ginger
@@ricknineg the plot was also used on Green Acres when Oliver met his double a bank robber and on Get Smart when Max had to double for the King of a fictional country who he looked like and many other shows on Brady Bunch Peter met his exactly lookalike double and I think F-Troop did it with Agarn and on The Munsters Herman had a twin brother Charlie also another twin named Johan it was always a fun episode when shows used this storyline it all started with Patty Duke Show they were the first to perfect the split screen technique then Bewitched did it with Serena and Dream of Jeannie did it with Sister she had dark hair Jeannie had blond hair.
🌋Great info Rick!🚢🏝🥥⛵🥄
I'm glad shows re-used stuff. That looks like an indoor shower 🚿 lol 😆 😂
It is interesting to see how much I missed for all the times I watched these episodes!
Sherwood, who knew a thing or two about first names, said, "IF I had ever needed a first name for Gilligan it WOULD have been Willie." Which is not the same thing as Gilligan's name being Willie Gilligan. It wasn't!
Thanks again for another wonderful video. Great job Rick.!
Thanks again!
If they really were trapped on an island then they definitely would be reusing items. And of course with the unique look of their island items it would be hard to use them for other shows. I'd bet someone put that up there wondering if anyone in the cast or crew would notice it.
You certainly have an eye for detail! I think a short (~15 mins) compilation video that shows all of these "Hidden Items", "Bloopers" or "Cameos" would do well. You could even do one just for Gilligan's Island, another for Hogan's Heroes, Batman, Lucy and so on. They wouldn't need to be the full-length videos you make (5 mins), just a short "this item was in this episode and here it is again in another episode".
Great idea!
You have great insights. Good job again.
Good spot there, Rick! It’s so neat that you recognized it from the previous season. It’s interesting how they reincorporated items bc that’s what they’d probably do if they were really stranded on an island 🏝️ ❤
Great catch! I've never noticed this!
I never noticed it before! Thanks Rick.
I said it before and I'll say it again you'd have to be pretty sharp eyed to see that. An obvious goof is when Gilligan raises his right hand, his doppelganger also raises his right hand. When you look into a mirror and raise your right hand, it's actually your left, because your reflection is reversed in a mirror.
Exactly! I always say it makes sense since Gilligan is a bit of a lovable klutz, he would have believed it was correct lol
Bamboo pipes ❤❤❤❤😂😂
2:05 Did anyone else notice Mr. Howell is actually sitting on a chair in his trunk bathtub and how the table it's on conceals his legs? 🕵
Good catch
That is so cool , I never noticed it 😊
Never noticed this! So cool! :)
Glad you like it!
2:04 Donyou really think Gillian could make that without blowing up the whole entire island? Of course the Professor built it!
I don't know if the writers have much to do with this. Probably more due to the producers, property masters, prop designers, set designers and set dressers. Irwin Allen was noted for reusing props, costumes and footage many times not even from his on productions. Good catch any way.
Yes, I remember both of these episodes.
The Skipper, Gilligan, Ginger, and the Mr Howe were in dual roles on the island
Not the Skipper
@ricknineg season 1 episode 12 (Birds gotta fly fish gotta talk) The cast is sitting down except the Skipper disappointed in a failed rescue and wanting to be home for Christmas then all the sudden Santa Claus appears (Alan Hale Jr) comes to cheer them up he leaves. The next scene shows the skipper carrying wood wearing his regular clothes, and they looked confused in disbelief because the skipper had no idea that Santa just left
4:13 It’s a shower stall, not a wardrobe.
I have seen all episodes, but I like action. However, I have never noticed those props.
Has anyone ever noticed that the castaways make almost everything out of bamboo and palm fronds, and though they always show palm trees you never see a living bamboo plant stalk ever on the island/set?
Volcanic source of the hot water
What a fun video
I never noticed that. Did you happen to notice the ship's wheel in that scene? It's the same one from the opening credits. It's a common practiced for studios or production companies to keep props and wardrobe for use in other episodes, shows and/or movies.
I would think that the items used may either be repurposed for other contraptions or become something used later in a more practical way than originally introduced. So either the hot water valve was set up in the supply hut for when purposes needed or it is awaiting repurposing.
thats why they had to had to have a supply hut!
Willy, no wonder.
Being the supply hut they would have stored it there until needed on the island again...
Don’t remember noticing it but it’s been a long time since
Eagle Eye Rick strikes again!
Great video, never noticed the reused hot water lever!
Folks, be sure to subscribe, like, and comment. It helps our brother Rick out a lot!
Be hopeful, everyone!
Thanks again!
One thing they never mention is how they went to the bathroom.
They Most Likely had an OUTHOUSE.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

@@davidwesley2525 Yeah, but the thought of the coconut toilet paper is one of very scratchy discomfort.
@@southernguy35They could use Leaves as toilet paper. 😊😊😊
What!?? Skippers hidden statch of junk food???
Rick, I enjoy every video you make but.......why you don't mention background of Gilligan's island there is a Wall plain as day you can see and that is why you can't see the Sun or Clouds while in studio.
Isn't that the shower that the valve appears over in season 3?
Waste not want not!
gingers hairdo pined up was all of that her real hair or was it a wig?
🛥🏝🥥🌋
Why would we focus on these things in the supply hut? But it`s smart that they put them there in case we did.
Why wouldn’t we?
@@ricknineg I`m usually focused on the actors
Rick do you find these Gems or do people write to you about them?
❤❤
I'll say this again... Gilligan's Island is not for "looking deeper" into the facts of the show. It is basically "Comfort TV" designed to illicit a good, wholesome, silly vibe whole showing people from all walks of life working with and loving each other. Sure, you can point out fun facts about its weirdnesses and oddities like Rick does, but if you are the type of person that needs or wants to rip apart all the non-logical inconsistencies, then this show isn't for you.
I can take turns examining the show and then just enjoy it
I don’t need anyone to tell me what shows are not for me. Enjoy it! You keep clicking the videos I make so you seem to enjoy them! I’ll keep “ripping them apart” as you say haha
Wait…Gilligan’s Island was fake?
LOL So was Lost in Space and Star Trek But if you were 8 yrs old everything was Real
Spoiler alert *don't read* If you've never seen the episode.
The multifunctional pocket knife has a toothpick.
Just kidding.
There are so many inconsistencies and illogical things with this series that (granted, it was only meant as nothing more than a fluff sit com) never made sense to me.
First, every boat in the marina at the opening credits has a mast, except for the minnow. Then the boat leaving the marina looks nothing like the one in the storm... the list list goes on and on. Like... why would a millionaire or a movie star charter this little ship for a three hour cruise?
Also, how did an orangutan, a gorilla, and chimpanzee all get to this island?
But just to this episode, why would Thurston bring a very heavy trunk full of cash with him on a three hour tour? And what is up with that helm wheel behind Ginger? It is not the one from the Minnow, so where did it come from? And why did the Howell's and Ginger bring a months worth of outfits on a 3 hr. cruise?
As to props, it only makes sense that they would use them as much as they could on various episodes due to budget.
You asked: "Also, how did an orangutan, a gorilla, and chimpanzee all get to this island?"
The same way foxes showed up in North America, England, Europe and Japan. Wait, aren't England and Japan islands? Yes they are, but England was once attached to Europe through a stretch of land called "The Doggerland", so, there is that. The foxes merely migrated, following food, from Europe, across Russia, across the Bering Strait, into North America. As for how foxes got to Japan, which is a series of volcanic islands, the foxes arrived via rafts made during great storms and/or massive seismic events (debris from the massive quake/tsunami in Japan in March 2011 took a decade to get to drift to the US Pacific Northwest). Back to your original question, did you know that after World War 2 there was a massive surplus of "Liberty Ships" (military cargo ships) and shipping companies were able to buy them for very little money. Most of these ships underwent one type of reconfiguration or another. These ships were poorly run and poorly maintained with some cargoes just tied to the top deck. Along comes a storm, and oopsie daisie, the cargo is jettisoned into the sea. These former Liberty Ships were in the fleets of shipping companies well into the 1980's. Finally, did you know that the generic word for fox in Japanese is kitsune, but a female fox is known as a megitsune? Check out " Babymetal - Megitsune (Tokyo Dome Live 2016) Eng Subs" (turn on captions).
@@The_Dudester So how in your long winded diatribe about foxes traversing the world over land bridges when sea levels were lower have anything to do with an imaginary uncharted island off of Hawaii that somehow had a Chimpanzee, an Orangutan, and a Gorilla living on it?
When has that ever happened. Name one account out of fantasy land where a Chimpanzee, a Gorilla, and an Orangutan were found on a small island in the middle of the Pacific. I mean short of your silly story and the silly stories found on Gilligan's Island.
And isn't it odd how, though you have a heart on for foxes, none are indigenous to any south Pacific islands or atolls.
After all, didn't did you know that after World War 2 there was a massive surplus of "Liberty Ships" (military cargo ships) and shipping companies were able to buy them for very little money. Most of these ships underwent one type of reconfiguration or another. These ships were poorly run and poorly maintained with some cargoes just tied to the top deck. Along comes a storm, and oopsie daisie, the cargo is jettisoned into the sea.
@@The_Dudester I wrote a response to your comment a few hours ago. Sadly, Big Brother CZcams deleted/censored my comment.
There is no way to have an exchange with anyone on CZcams anymore if one uses a word or phrase that CZcams deems as inappropriate.
@@FishHeadSalad I'm sorry about that. I have learned to separate comments into paragraphs (and space to next paragraph) and I am genuinely surprised that my earlier comment to you wasn't deleted.
I don't care for the "twins" episodes Gilligan Mr Howell Ginger Nobody knows they're on the island but their twins keep showing up?
It’s a live action cartoon. None of them are their twins though
It is a live action cartoon. No need for in depth analysis.
Seeing that I coined that concept for this show, I am very aware. But my channel is one where I analyze shows so I’ll keep doing so 😂
I know it costs time and money to produce these videos.
Accordingly I have been waiting for you to change your name to RicktenG due to inflationary pressures.
It does but it is free for everyone to watch
