    Another fantastic review. I love that you don’t pull any punches about these paper designs that never really had a chance. I wish WG would give us more historical premiums to talk about. There are still so many great ships that don’t exist yet in this game.

      Even if every ship in this game is just pixels, I do care a lot more about the ones that have a real history, so I am 100% behind that.

      What about Azur Lane Littorio? How does she fare as the commander for the Marco Polo?

    To anyone wondering, I caught a Shima broadside with a full salvo of SAP. He walked away with 10% of his health left. Even the SAP is unimpressive in certain situations. Did really well vs. cruisers but they were Minotaurs....

      Glad I'm not the only one who's had that experience. I just don't think it's worth the reload trade-off.

      Oh well, made for a funny moment.

    Thanks again for the great review + history (what little can be said for it). I personally picked up Marco this campaign for her better survivability compared to the other option, access to that exhaust smoke, and the Option for SAP though as she stands it is not a great option. So far for me she's okay if you lean in to staying alive in your tactics to increase contribution throughout the match, rather than other expecting to rack up dmg quickly.
    I feel the choice this campaign was between 2 ships with some notable downsides either way. I feel you definitely made a good point for why I did not got for Marlborough with that exposes citadel you tapped. At least Marco Polo can reasonably protect itself, and has something no other high tier ship has the option for at the higher tiers - both access to SAP, and those interesting pen/fuse timing differences the Italian BBs have.

      Honestly, Bronner, I think you hit the nail on the head. I was vaguely considering making a video about my thoughts on each ship, by comparison, this weekend. I'm not sure, though. Spoiler alert, though, it would be mostly this.

    I feel like reload penalty is overkill on this. Not being able to set fires is the downside to using SAP.
    I’ll have the ship today or tomorrow but on paper I feel that penalty is a bit harsh.

    • @sctm81
      @sctm81 Před rokem

      But fires can be put out or sometimes you just don't get them at all. At times it's better to get the damage in advance than to hope for a perma fire.

  • @Hjerte_Verke
    @Hjerte_Verke Před rokem +4

    You've probably been asked this before but what do you think of this scheme of continually adding ships to the WoW lineup that never existed and sometimes only existed on paper?
    I know they "have to keep the game new" and "fresh and exciting" but isn't this tainting the world of naval history and/or mucking things up? How long before we get rail guns and cloaking devices?

    • @CT-Gamer-sg9dn
      @CT-Gamer-sg9dn Před rokem

      Don't worry, even though WG does love to make ships that would not or could not be made in their respective countries/years, they still prefer historical fiction over science fiction. (Also, if railguns were ever added it'd be at Tier 20)

    • @tacticangel
      @tacticangel  Před rokem +4

      Strangely, I don't know if I've ever been asked. I think just about everyone assumes the answer, but I'm definitely not as interested in ships that didn't exist. Even though they're both just pixels, a ship like Prince of Wales is a lot more interesting to me than Monarch.
      But paper ships are definitely the biggest pain from a research point of view. Ships like Brandenburg and Marlborough require less time simply because I don't have to go looking, collecting imagery, or recording. "Paper ships," particularly ones that are not of US, UK, or German origin, are sometimes a real pain to find info on.

    I really like this boat against just about everything... except destroyers, especially if you go with the SAP mod, lol. Combo of largely ineffective secondaries and that 10% dmg cap means it takes at least a couple of salvoes before you can finish one off (and thats a solid minute of gameplay). Discovered this when I happened upon an AFK Hayate... took about a full minute to chew it down down with the secondaries/SAP rounds. Against everything else though? That AP SLAPS and that smoke comes in handy if you're mindful of your firing penalty. Solid boat IMO...

    @aproudbaguette3605 Před rokem +2

    Been a while since we didn't had some big historical ships, yeah Musachi is a thing, but since tier 8 is a thing its a little sad that most new ships are mostly WG drawings...
    Anyway the SAP is pretty good though, and as much as Marlborough can be a great damage dealer, i do think Marco Polo would be more unique, even if its a standard design

    • @doomguy.23frommars60
      @doomguy.23frommars60 Před rokem +1

      Well most ships in tier 8 are real including marco polo ofc not built but some history to them Marlborough is not real tho wasn't ever considered by the brits every other BB was under construction or designed to be built

  • @digitalcareline
    @digitalcareline Před rokem +1

    At the moment you are going to be bottom tier almost all the time at T8 this is frustrating as the Marco Polo is very vulnerable at this level -you never feel that you are starting from a position of strength in this ship. a map where you can get concealment is a lot more fun than the more open maps

    • @tacticangel
      @tacticangel  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, and for better or worse, that's true for all tier VIII battleships, though obviously some are more durable than others. The one thing I can say is in Marco Polo's defense is that it can do Italian battleship things and offer you a fair degree of protection in a well-timed gamer turn or if you need to cover some open water without getting shot... so at least in that sense she has something on Marlborough.

    Says: A regime who routinely murder people who were able to read (referring to the USSR)
    Reality: The very first thing the USSR did was launch a literacy program across the country, so fast they started the program that they used trains as temporary mobile schools across the country. While other countries simply waited to build schools and teach the next generation, the soviets thought adults and the elderly to read. Decades later the Soviet education system was so good that nearly everyone had masters degrees and is just one of the good positive remnants of the soviets, that being today the former soviets states citizens never heard of a "first generation graduate" until they speak to an American. Something they find quite surprising.
    I recommend watching Ladyizdihar, she is a historian on the Caucasus and Soviet Union. She doesn't like to use anecdotal evidence from her family who lived in the Soviet Union which was positive but she primarily uses primary source documents and will also point you to other historians and journalists that studied the USSR and the region as well. Ladyizdihar

    • @tacticangel
      @tacticangel  Před rokem +1

      Ah... well the purpose there is not to say the Soviets would kill people for knowing how to read, I've read enough literature from there to believe that. It is an off-handed characterization of the targeting of the 'intelligentsia,' particularly during the Great Purge, all of whom you would expect could read and which was going on when the UP41 design was pitched to the USSR.

  • @DrakeHunter324

    I can't stand this thing. On the rare occasion it hits something it does little damage.
    Flat broadside Marlborough? Nuke? Nah have 4 overpens and 5k damage.
    Oh look at that cruiser over there, SAP should sort that out! Nah, you can watch your shots twist in the air and land either side.
    No idea if I'm just used to having near max commanders but even my full secondary set German BBs/BCs are laser guided.
    I'll maybe come back to it but I was bordering on selling it last night.
