French Gas Heater Restoration - A Rare 1900s Piece!

- In this video, I restore a gas heater made in France in the early 1900s.
More about the restoration process:
It was very challenging but rewarding. I learned much about gas heaters and enamel restoration and am very proud of the finished product.
The gas heater was in disrepair when I got it. The old finish was damaged; it was cracked, with a few spots of chipped enamel and all the mechanisms eaten by rust like rarely I encountered.
If you want to learn more about this antique French gas heater, I encourage you to watch this video.
When I saw it, even though I was shocked at how bad it looked under, I was happy because I remembered that I had a few spare parts from another heater.
The process of restoring the French gas heater/radiator went well, even though the disassembling was difficult, and the grate was broken into many pieces.
This part was the most challenging because it was the first time I had to make a brass mold, but I managed pretty well, and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.
All the chipped parts were enameled and then painted to fit the rest.
The rotten burner was replaced, too, with an authentic one that I found in my spare parts collection. As a restorer, never throw such a piece; you never know when you need it!
After removing the rust, the parts were painted with heat-resistant paint, and I reassembled the heater. At the end of the video, I made a test so you can see how it works!
More about the gas heater:
It was manufactured by the famous Clamond company and was once used to heat a salon in a French country house. The small heater has been made from heavy cast iron and features an attractive blue enameled exterior. The radiator has an ornate Art Nouveau design and rests on 4 decorative feet.
I hope I have caught everything, but if you have any questions, you can comment, and I'll get back to you!
Cheers! Johnny.

Hi folks! It was one of the most challenging restoration projects I ever did, but I brought it back to life! 😍I hope you will enjoy the video and give it a thumbs-up! Cheers! Johnny!
The fact that you actually made a mold and poured molten brass into it to create a new piece is incredible!
I also like how you use a torch when you know that there's a possibility that somebody previously may have tried to do a Band-Aid job by you know putting soldier in which they shouldn't have done and you try to torch it to get rid of that soldier you can't get rid of it so you use the tools of the trade I'm talking as a metal Smith I always admire the work that you do I can no longer do any of it anymore so I can't help but admire.
I have just one question why not put a new washer in the old ones were probably made of leather or something similar instead you use some kind of adhesive if I'm not wrong.
Mr. Tumbles 😊
You should call the tumbler = Mr. Tom Bleur.
😅
Tumbelina
This has my vote!!!
Tom Bleur....genius!
They could get a female version and call her Vi Braytour?
That heater is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, excellent restoration.
It really is!
I love it!! Can you make it have babies? So you could sell them?!
@@wendy833 😄😄
If you want an advice, then keep this heater cool, really cool. Don't use it, as you may not use it twice !
That would have been in a very nice parlour many decades ago. The lady of the house would have had many jealous friends calling by regularly! 😉😉
How do you come across such amazing vintage pieces ? On top of being a gifted restoration artist, you always seem to come across the most interesting pieces ! That’s a skill in itself. I’m a huge fan everything comes out so lovely! This one was absolutely stunning by the time you completed the restoration ❤
Thank you so much! I have a daily routine of searching for items that can be saved. I spent at least one hour per day on that. 😆
The tumbler’s name should be Scuttlebut. He does a quick and fabulous job.
This heater is a work of art due to your restoration. Well done! 🎉🎉🎉
Hahaha, funny name! 😁
Thank you for your kind words! Cheers
I could seriously sit here and watch you sandblast things ALL. DAY. LONG!! It's so relaxing to me for some reason.
I also have this feeling while doing it or watching the process. 🙂
Btw, Happy New Year!
I love the patience you have with difficult restorations 👍 This job obviously has many issues, but you still brought the heater back to life. Brilliant video
Thank you so much! 🙂
That was a fascinating piece to see worked. It reminds me of the old ceramic wall heater that is still in my grandparents place in Mississippi. My grandfather pretty much built and rebuilt that house over the years. I love watching your work, some amazing and fascinating items you get to resuscitate.
This was so great. Thank you for the perfect bedtime story 🤍
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂
Nice work.
You should name your tumbler "Shakes=Pear"
Nice one
Man with that many scars on one hand is either a hard worker, or had a rough lifestyle.. or both!
My hands are the same.
Great work man!😎
Tumbler name suggestion: Tumbler Swift. It's blonde, too, and it's Taylor's birthday, so....shake it off, yeah, shake it off.
Hahahha
Tumbler name suggestion-
*Shaky*
Thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words! 🫠
That is one hell of an Enamel!
Beautiful job!! I absolutely love this piece. I would
Be absolutely interested in buying that. I love the work you do. This was unusual and I was amazed at how you matched the colors up so well. I was astonished at that. I would have been at a loss if I tried this. Oh and a name for your machine- Rusty.
Thank you very much! I'm pleased that you enjoyed the restoration process. It took me a while to figure it out with the colours. I've spent the whole day doing that 😅 The heater will stay in my collection, which I'm planning to expand, but If I'll find another one or similar, I can let you know. Thank you for watching! Cheers! Johnny
Very good. Thanks for posting. Those gaskets looked a bit asbestossy!
What? You melted down brass and made a mold! This restoration is insane.
Call the tumbler: "Mr. Rusty Rumble Pot, the 3rd" 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
A tumbler on CZcams should be called: Tumbs-up👍🏻
Thank you for your time, and attention to detail. Your work never ceases to amaze me.
Thank you so much for your appreciation, Sandra! 💓
Great job on restoring this piece, although I wouldn't have used brass for the burner grate as it can give off zinc fumes when heated.
Thank you. I didn't know that heated brass can emanate zinc fumes. That's interesting 🤔
It's Oleg. Excuse my English, but I'm telling you are great master. My best regards, I appreciate your hard work. Be careful while doing the job.
Thank you, Oleg! I'm happy to know that you enjoy my videos! Best, Johnny
Awesome! His name has to be Jitterbug!
I was absolutely mesmerized, and what a pretty little gem of an item! ✨
That brass grill is beautiful
I'm glad you like it! Cheers
Quedó regia, bonita, un lindo y estupendo trabajo.
You scraping that dried asbestos killed me
It was soaked in wd40...
Gorgeous!!!
I'm glad you like it! 🙂
Your patience and work is astounding!! I would have thrown it away.
this is awesome.. a mini fireplace. and you should name your toy that cleans nuts and bolts "The Tumbler". Great job!!
Stunning, just wow❤
Beautiful work indeed ❤
Thank you 🙏
Thank you! 🙂
Some of that padding during the disassembly looks like asbestos - be careful, it’s fine if it’s not being disturbed but not great if it’s being broken up/scraped off
Tumbler name: Reginald
He usually coats it with WD-40.
I imagine he is probably wearing proper PPE (mask, eye protection)
You should definitely buy those long fireplace matches.
The skill and care you take with these treasures is amazing and inspiring to watch. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words! Cheers
Beautiful!!!!
I'm glad you like it! 🙂
Great job. It’s really a pretty little thing.
You are lucky. Johnny ....Listen to Gilla. 😂😂😂😂 My best wishes

Beautiful restoration mister good job well done
Thank you very much!
Beautiful ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Bravo!👏👏👏
Thank you!
Excellent Restoration! Especially your work on the porcelain repair was outstanding. No not orginal, I would fabricate a front guard for that safety hazard!
Looks like there are fixing brackets for a guard of some sort?
Great video. You could name your shaker Patrick Shake-zey after Patrick Swassey.
Good one
You are very talented. Beautiful job.
Thank you! 😊
Very good!!!!!
Extraordinary restoration, especially how you redid the enamel! I didn't know how you were going to be able to do that. If I wasn't already subscribed I would subscribe again!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 Thank you!
Well done! Great! 👍👍
Thank you! 🙂
Looks like a lot of work for sure! Great video 👍🏼
It was!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this was one of the models that salesmen would bring with them to show how the heaters would work?
Awesome job!!! ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I read something about it, and yes, they were using it as a sample, but at the same time, I found information that people used to heat small rooms with heaters of this size.
Many salesman samples actually work. Just like the little stoves and other things.
It has a small pipe on its rear to connect to a disused fireplace if the chimney is still open and the fumes can vent up it
You are a great people congratulations
Great resto mate. 👍👍👍
Thank you J!
Nice job.
Removing those kind of asbestos gaskets is always a delight. Thankfully the amount of dust generated in a project like this is minuscule.
Also, that thing was in surprisingly good shape, all things considered. Fire makes metal parts brittle in the long run.
A JOB WELL DONE
There is a risk for asbestos. Good restoration better then new. Regards Stig Österberg from Dalsbruk in Finland.
The tumbler should be called bobbi. First, because it bobs around while cleaning the small parts. Second, because it looks like you're bobbing for parts with the magnet once they're done.
Good one! 👍
tu es un petit génie , j'adore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, my gosh - OH MY GOSH - 😊 You did the most incredible restoration! 😢 This was beautiful, you were so incredibly thorough. KUDOS to you, it's gorgeous!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you so much! 🙂
Oh my gosh that fireplace is so cute I want it!I would roast tiny marshmallows in it

Fascinating! Love to watch you work. Great job. How about, “Shakey”? 😀
Thank you, Brenda! 🙂
beautiful~~!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
You must name the tumbler "Stampy"!
Call your tumbler, "Googly Eyes" ! 😂
creative
I was hoping for a decorative window to protect from the flames of the fire
BUZZ is a good name for it!
Another Fantastic restoration. You always do the greatest jobs on your projects 😊
You are truly a wonderful Craftsman/Artist who loves what hes doing.
Thanks for sharing your video with us 😊
Looking forward to watching more.
Take care and have a Blessed and Beautiful weekend.
Greetings from Fairfield California USA
I'm glad you like it, and thank you so much for your kind words!
Enamel repair will not stand the flame, Good looking thought
I never tested it that way. Did you?
In this case, it doesn't need to last too long because the heater will serve only as a decorative item.
Beautiful stove heater it's very seldom to see today. Best for the Christmas and winter season ☃️ 🎄 Happy Christmas time
Thank you! I wish you a happy Christmas next to your loved ones!
Thank you for your tips, but I didn't use it because I could easily chip the enamel. 🙂
Great job !!! You can use the top for cooking... 🙂
Quedo muy bien. Por un momento dudé que funcionara.
Saludos desde Valdivia al sur de Chile 🇨🇱
thanks for sharing it was very satisfying to watch this come back to life. +1 sub
Thanks! 🙂
Very nice job on the heater. As for the tumbler, my submission is: Tumble McTumblerface! You're welcome.
It was so pretty ^^
Miky
It seems like a fitting name for your beautiful sandblasting tool.
This is just so beautiful! I wonder if there were a few made at that time?
